It's a bad decision to drop Tamim Iqbal because he is in form and capable of giving good starts with his natural strokeplay.Selecting a test team selectors always look for defensive players but we can see only stroke players like Lara,Jayasurya,Hayden,Sehwag,Inzammam,Gayle,Jayawardene etc were able to score 300 plus in test cricket.Players like Gavaskar,Boycott,Mike Atherton etc were never able to get such big scores. Also it will be important to notice how Gilchrist was instrumental in Australian Victories in test matches with his explosive batting.

I agree with you, Jomesh.
This is bad uninformed selection. Tamim is the only confident batsman in the Bangla team. We have always seen the run rate dipping after he leaves. One can take the example of our own Sehwag facing difficulty in his prime time to enter the Test squad. Once he entered, he became the only Indian to go past 300. It was Tamim's stroke that led them to victory over India in the WC game.

Dear Mr. George,

Definitely Tamim is a good player for future. But ha has to improve lot of things to get a place in Test team. At present he is not having an important quality "patient" which needs for a test batsmen. This also suits for "Virender Sehwag". He must be dropped from test squad.

I defenitely agree the names you mentioned here that they scored 300 runs in test cricket. But you must see how they change their batting strategy while batting in Test match. A big example for this is Indian Captain Dravid, Sachin, Australian Ponting & South African Jaques Kallis. They adopt two different strategy while batting in one day match and in test match. Thats why these batsmen are considered as great batsmen irrespective of which country they belong and they have good average and aggregate in both forms of cricket.

I am sure Tamim have good future, but for the timebeing he has to learn the technic of batting patiently, instead of just trying to hit hard all the balls. Please note, he may be hero in hitting like this in ODI, where field restrictions and power play rules are applied in the initial overs. If he does the same in test match, his life will be spoiled within a one single tour. If he fails, all the people will tell to drop him that he lost his form. But it wont be not true.

Because of this only, I think Bangaladesh selectors done correct by not considering him for test match. Because they dont want to spoil his future.

Bye
