We Indians are a bunch of thankless people
by BHARADWAJ V on May 13, 2007 09:02 PM  | Hide replies

I am very disappointed at the attitude with most guys in this forum, insulting greats like Sachin and Saurav. These were the guys who brought us so many laurels to our country. Are we to forget that?Shouldn't we hold our heads in pride that a player like Sachin, regarded next best to Bradman is an Indian?True,he is not performing as well he can. But,has any other player shown the class he has shown?Despite the tremendous injry to his body he comes back again and again to perform(he was the MOS just a few months back).

Personally,I am not for them playing in ODI's(at least not unimportant matches)but that doesn't mean we should insult them.

Nobody is insulting them. The guys who supports them are insulting the guys who speaks truth which may be against Sachin and Saurav.

Sachin and Saurav are human beings and not gods. We made them gods. So they have their own limitations and they themselves have to accept the limitations. they shouldnt block youngsters to come into team.

We have to accept the fact that Sachin only can come back to Indian One day team as a middle order player playing @ number 4, not as an opener. Sachin needs to understand this as a senior player.

Coming to saurav, He also have a chance to come back to one day team only if he changes his attitude and support the team and management. We have heard stories and have seen live on the TV when he contradicts the captain and argues with the captain when he was asked to do something for the sake of the team. He has a huge attitude problem and still thinks that he is the Indian team captain. He has to change his attitude, othwerwise BCCI will show doors to him.

We accept that Sachin and Saurav are greats, that doesnt mean that they can play till they dies. See how greats like Mcgrath, Lara, Warne and so on retired gracefully when they are on their peak. If mcgrath dont retire, he has the potential of playing another 2 years and he is the highest wicket taker in the last WC. But he knows he is not getting younger and retired gracefully giving chances to Youngsters.

Sachin and saurav also has to relaise this fact that they dont have place in the One day team and if they have ti play, the rotation policy have to implemented where one of 3 senior players will be rotated on the rotation basis to give stength and guide the youngsters.

It doesnt matter wt attributes you have. you need to listen to the management and be a team player and play according to the team's needs.

If rahul can do a wicket keeping job for the sake of Team , why cant Saurav open in an test match and Why cant sachin play in the middle order?

Instead of doing so Saurav argued infront of the camera live and we have stories that he argued with dravid adn told dravid that I was the captain and you need not tell me anything. Is this the atitude you expect from a senior player?

Same with SAchin, he always wants to open the innings where as team wanted him in the middel order to share more expereince and responsibility. Personalitiies doesnty matter in the cricker or in any team game, finally the team that matters.

Upad..., its amazing that you could hear what Saurav was telling Dravid in the middle of the filed. Mahabharata's Sanjay has taken rebirth as Upadrasta. If u heard stories that saurav was telling Dravid what u have said, we have stories that Saurav was requesting Dravid to let him open, which Dravid ignored and himself came to open the innings. This shows saurav's right approach to the team and country. Don't spread negative imaginary stories simply to downgrade great players like sachin and saurav.

Hi Bharadwaj

I fully agree with you!!

Forget North, South, East or West, which Indian can say that Sachin, Sourav and Rahul have been one of the most significant reasons behind why we have been following Indian cricket in the last decade??

To criticise Ganguly for his performance in the last 6 months shows total lack of cricketing knowledge and command over facts. As an Indian Bengali (not to forget that he was my classmate in St Xaviers College, Calcutta, B.COM stream 1991-94), I am extremely disappointed at comments directed at him.

And my feelings are the same towards Sachin Tendulkar and Rahul Dravid. These guys are the two of the 3 greatest Indian batsmen of all time (the 3rd is obviosuly SMG) and for people to talk about them badly is a shame on all of us.

WHY GANGULY??? STILL NO PROPER ANSWER!!!
by arijit mookerjee on May 13, 2007 07:54 PM  | Hide replies

Hi Readers of this Forum

I still did not get a proper answer to why is Ganguly being targetted by people here, despite his performances since his return in SA!

People have all accepted here that:

1) He was India's best batsman in the SA test series (IN SA!!) - any dispute?

2) He was India's best batsman in the twin ODI home series against WI and SL - any dispute?? (besides a strangely lame comment like "he did so to cement his place in the team"!)

3) In a forgettable WC for India, apart from Sehwag and Yuvraj, Ganguly was the perhaps the 3rd best batsman for India and still the top scorer for India in the WC!

SO IN THE PAST 3 SERIES, IF A PERSON WAS THE BEST BATSMAN IN 2 OF THEM AND THE 3RD BEST IN THE 3RD, THEN OVERALL IS HE OR NOT THE BEST PERFORMER??? SO HE HAS BEEN INDIA'S BEST BATSMAN SINCE THE SERIES IN SAFRICA?

So can someone please provide proper cricketing reasons for this tirade against Ganguly? No Bong/non-Bong or things like that. Just think of yourselves as cricket lovers and answer this. Which cricketing reason justifies the best performer over the last 6 months to be the target of such abuse??

This can happen only in India and more so if you are a successful player and its your damn cursed luck if you happen to be from West Bengal!

Sourav is not just a Bengali icon, he is an INDIAN ICON! Can any person on this whole forum dispute that with a clear conscience?? So is Sachin Tendulkar.

Once we are done with the Bangladeshi kids (who are Bengalis too, by the way!!), I hope we can get our MEN back when we take on the MEN from Safrica, England (half-men) and the Aussie SUPERMEN.

And please do not post stupid abusive replies - just provide cricketing reasons or else shut up.

balaji, nehra and Harbhazan dont have any chance unless they improve their game , especially their attitude.

Coming to Ramesh Pawar, He is still contributing even he looks odd in the field.
You cannot be 100% true in any department, but one have to see their dedication and how they overcome their shortcomings and try to work hard and give their 100%. Ramesh pawar is one of those guys who gives 100% whenever he gets the chance. He is far better than Harbhazan who has an attitude problem and became a defensive bolwer.

Harbhazan always tries to contend the batsman by bowling flatter where as Pawar is an attacking bolwer who tries to tempt the batsman and alwayas takes wickets. See the stats and pawar always have taken wickets in the middle overs to help the team. He is a far better batsman than Harbhazan in the late order.

Where is India's best batsman in its last test as well as the last test series in your test team??

Who was it, by the way?

Do you remember? Who in your opinion was India's best batsman in the Cape Town test as well as the entire 3 test series against SA?

So is your team based on merit or other reasons?

Hi Nik

I would not resort to using abusive language like you did - because that's beneath my dignity and also would be a shame on the Indian and Bengali culture (something we are proud of even if we live thousands of miles away from our homeland).

All I wish to ask you is a simple question - WHO WAS INDIA'S BEST BATSMAN IN INDIA'S LAST TEST (CAPE TOWN) AND LAST SERIES (VS SAFRICA IN SAFRICA)?

Use your memory and common sense and let this forum know the answer. If you indeed follow and understand cricket that is.

And yes, as a "Mookerjee" I am indeed an Indian Bengali and undoubtedly a proud one at that. As for who is an "idiot"....well....hmm.....let one's conduct decide that!

Mr. Dilip Vengaskar

Ensure no more chances are given to the following players either in Tests or ODIs

1. Sachin Tendulkar
2. Saurov Gangully
3. Irfan Pathan
4. Harbhajan Singh
5. Anil Kumble
6. Ajit Agarkar
7. Mohd. Kaif
8. Yuvraj Singh
9. Dinesh Mongia

Instead include and encourage the following players.....Give them more chances like chances given to Sachin/Saurov

1. Gautam Gambhir
2. Suresh Raina
3. Robin Uthappa
4. Manoj Tiwari
5. Dinesh Karthik
6. Badrinath
7. Piyush Chawla

and other deserving youngsters. Keep persisting with them. India will shine.

Remove the two crooks Sachin/Saurov permanently and present a clean India team.

We dont have openers problem at all. the only problem is we dont give enough chances to the guys to prove themselves and goes back to sachin and saurav when they fails in 1 or 2 games. Expect sehwag, no other player like Ghambir,Vuthappa have given consistent chance to prove themselves. They failed in 1 or 2 matches and we have showed doors to them and brought back Sachin and saurav again. this is not fair.

If sachin and Saurav has to be in the game, who are the two players you want to left out? Gambhir, Utappa, dinesh karthik,Yuvraj?

I would say take dinech Mongia out and bring back Sachin and ask him to play@4. His reflecxes are not so great as 16 years back and he needs some time to play and middle order is the place where he suits now guiding the younger players.

Coming to saurav, He also have a chance to come back to one day team only if he changes his attitude and support the team and management. We have heard stories and have seen live on the TV when he contradicts the captain and argues with the captain when he was asked to do something for the sake of the team. Bangladesh is a test palying nation, Mortaza, their paceman, generates 140k plus speed, He was the leading wicket taker of 2006. BD beat SA in the WC, proving that on their day they can best the best.

The WC 2007 is history now. Cut down on the sarcasm guys. BD is an evolving team much like SL was in the late 80s and early 90s.

A victory is a victory. One needs to play well to beat BD, they are no longer a cakewalk, though you would and should still expect to win most times.

And when we do win, there is no need to go overboard, be self-congratulatory and think alls well with Indian Cricket.

But when we win, we should appreciate it and need not be sarcastic.

Hey guys, and gals, WC defeat hurts and rankles, but WC 2007 is history.

Let us not make it into a wound that festers and bleeds us of our sanity.
