Endorsements of Cricketers
by Jomesh George on May 28, 2007 05:44 PM

I don't believe it was because of advertisements indian players played badly in WC.In 2003 also most of the players were participating in ads and it didn't affect the team's performance. The inability to play in pressure situation was the setback for the team.Only 2 players Dravid and Laxman r capable of handling pressure situations as they proved before.Laxman was out of the WC team and Dravid could not do a miracle that was done by Kapil Dev in 1983.In tight matches the so called greats like Sachin always fail to contribute and it will lead to a debacle any time such situation arises

all those who are critisizing Dravid are like new born baby or mad people.

i think he played his role well from all aspects. what do you need from him. does only caption can win the world cup.if not then why dravid is targeted. as a player he is the person to whom one can believe that he can make runs, and to judge as a person you should be a good person first.

Are you saying that one of India's most consistent players should retire? You certainly do not know what you are talking about. Guys who do not perform should be given the sack. Also the selfish ones who put self before team should be shown the door.
Dravid may not have done well as captain, but atleast he had the guts to declare when Sachin was 194 not out and refused to accelerate for the teams sake.
A captain is only as good as his team. If the key members refuse to contribute to the teams cause then why blame Dravid?

2nd one day international
by amol dalvi on May 14, 2007 09:55 AM  | Hide replies

who says that dravid play good in 2nd one day international inplace of dravid if yuvraj or kartik play India will touch atleast 325. so it is better that dravid will retire inplace of sachin or ganguly in one day international and no one will fill bad because it is fact that dravid can not rotate strike.

WHOSE FAULT??
by kkeevviinn on May 13, 2007 02:58 PM  | Hide replies

It's the fault of these international brands. Don't blame your crickters. All you people who blame them for endorsements just ask yourselves. If you were in their place You all will do the same thing for money. Can anybody honestly say "NO I WILL NOT DO THIS FOR MONEY, I WILL ONLY PLAY CRICKET"
This is hypocracy. Money is ruling everything and runining the chasteness of everything.
It's not the players. It's the manufactureres who use the players.
Ask yourself, before you blame them. Will you not accept an endoresement for an extra buck??????
Yesteryear cricketers are completely against advertising because they could't make money like today. If they had the opportunity you think they would have refused??????
They are jealous of todays players since they make tens of thousands of times more than the oldies made.

Hey Kevin! I agree with your views, but its totally incorrect, India have greats like Prakash Padukone (Former World No.1 in Badminton), V Anand (Chess Champ), Geet Sethi (Former World No.1) they refused to endorse products like Pepsi, Coke, Reebok, Nike, etc.,

In fact Gopi (Badminton) rejected bottle giants offer, well.... our Cricket fans are fools...

Lets stop watching, infact I live in China, I have Sat channels, but I or my friends decided never watch these fools/bafoons play. These days I dont even bother, as these guys have no partotrism.

But on a general prespective you are right....

If you can't even spell patriotism right, why even talk about it? At least they have qualified to represent their country in a very competitive discipline, how about you?

At times everyone makes spelling mistakes.
since Suresh has misspelled patriotism, it doesnt mean he is not patriotic.
Discussion board is ment to express ur opinion about an issue....so stop criticizing the people who write their views.

Indians dont have any pride.
by ssbmat on May 12, 2007 07:11 PM

Indians dont have any pride at all. We think so low about ourselves. I am seeing comments like who's Dhoni or Dravid? Well, Who the HELL is Allen Iverson? or Thierry Henry ? Who are these idiots ?
Guys, just because Reebok ran an international campaign in which Dravid and Dhoni participate, you are all going into self-concious mode.
Yah, the Indian cricket team is the laughing stock of the cricketing world (in India) because of the WC debacle, but we are not the only ones who lost. South Africa are the perennial chokers. WI are, well, jokers.
And who the f#@% is Nicole Vaidisova? How many tennis Grand Slam titles has she won? ZILCH! All fluff no stuff. Yet she is also part of the ad.
But no, she is a Westerner (actually of the communist bloc) so she must be deserving.

Please stop this self-deprecating nonsense. Indian cricketers are part of th ad only because it makes commercial sense for Reebok to do so. As to why Dravid/Dhoni were chosen over other sportsmen like Leander or Sania or others, it is because, like it or not, cricket still sells.

Stop being envious of Western world and recognize that Indians also count in.

Cricket Debacle!
by Singh TS on May 12, 2007 01:33 PM  | Hide replies

Who is Dravid? Who is Dhoni? Do you remember they flopped when they were required to be a hit! Dravid - Technically Correct and Dhoni - Technically Incorrect are still playing that is wonder in itself. What about Sehwag? Wow! he is still playing and will play for ever! Shastri, I like your comments... yes Sehwag and Sachin will perform - BULLSHIT!

International Cricket participation of our country should be banned for atleast two years or so, by that time all these budday players will phase out and a new breed will be seen! Then nurish them accordingly.

i agree with you. we should ban international participation for 2 years and develop new breed of players and introduce a new team in a step by step manner... start winning tournaments with Bangladesh then Zimbawe, then Kenya... before trying our luck on Sri Lanka and New Zealand... forget about Australia and South Africa at present.

quo vadis? where will they run?
in a way we are all running for our life.
likewise dravid and dhoni are running for their life. of course they cannot run from this life.
they have to face it. in other words they have to run headlong. so let them run.

Again we are eulogising cricketers or national players because they are endorsing global products not because they are playing global cricket! Good...its true - the media (first) and then, public has a very short memory. One win against bangladesh and they are back in ads, we are back serenading them.
