not any good player can b a good captian
by chand a on May 27, 2007 05:33 PM  | Hide replies

hi all,
Dravid no doubt is a gr8 player but to lead a team u need to b more than just being a gr8 player.. i don't think Dravid deserves to lead team India.. He has been given ample opportunites but 0 output frm his side... I too feel Gangulay should lead b'se he has proved himself time and again.. There is a vast difference between the 2 captians then there was unity, aggression, team huddles and spirit when team India performed they really lukd like tigers on field but now none of those things r to b seen they luk mere shadows of their past.. which is very sad... Leading team India is not easy so we need some1 like saurav to lead from front... without him there is no spice no josh to our team today....

he might have struggled against a short ball but then he is no god... i hve not seen a cricketer who has played cricket without any struggle ever even LAra or ponting hve struggled and even gr8 bowlers like mcgrath or Lee have been thrashed by the minnows that doesn't mean that they hve lost it.. ganguly has it all to make a gr8 captian even today if he gets that support... and abt his batting his records says it all... need we say more..

Saurav and Sachin are past. India should look towards future. Dhoni should be made the captain. He is the only surety in the team and has never been involved in team factionalism or board politics unlike Sehwag and Yuvraj.

Dhoni?????
are you kidding me ...
let the team as it is ... remember this team holds the world record of largest consecutive wins chasing... that time every one said .. what a team.... what a captain.... what a coach...
the problem is that Indian audience has a very short memory...

lets pray that their should be no politics in and out of the team and there should always be the team spirit and mutual trust b/w the team members...

if that happenes.. the team will always do good...

i agree....
it has been reported that inspite of continuous orders for speeding up the run rate in the match against Bangladesh in world cup..
he continued in the slow rate just to show up runs against his name...
surly this was "one of the reasons" for Indian loss..
i think his removal from the one day team was because of this fact only..

Rahul Roy
Is it the same the Rahul Dravid we used to knwo? or Power makes everyone corrupt?
by Rahul Roy on May 20, 2007 01:42 AM  | Hide replies

Initially I thought it is only our mean minded introvert Rahul Dravid is playing politics and trying to get rid of Ganguly at any cost. So that there is no one to claim the captaincy back from him for the next two year even he does poor performance. He understand himself that he doesn%u2019t deserve to be the captain and has no captaincy material. He knows from his heart what a fantastic Captain Ganguly is and he is never able to touch Ganguly%u2019s feet as a Captain.

Now it is clear all the South India and Rahul supporters understand that very well and they want to keep their %u2018LAD%u2019 Rahul Dravid as captain and started %u2018Anti %u2013Ganguly%u2019 campaign whatever way they can. They know under Dravid India%u2019s cricket future is doomed, India has gone down in ICC ranking from 2 to 7, out in 1st round of WC, out in 1st round of ICC championship held in India. But they don%u2019t care about India, all they care about their own interest %u2018Rahul Dravid%u2019.

It is a same and shows how narrow someone%u2019s mind is when they can%u2019t even see a person%u2019s (Ganguly) success and they are stupid enough to express that in a open forum like rediff. They are first to take a piece of Ganguly%u2019s meat when he fails and they can%u2019t bear the fact Ganguly is playing like god from the last SA tour making India proud and performing better. Dravid is of same age of Ganguly but they try to project Dravid as if he is below 30.

It is of this type of people and their regionalist mentality Dinesh Karthik is in team instead of Yuvraj. Ishant Sharma played only 6 Ranji matches with 29 wickets get change in the squad while the highest wicket taker in the domestic cricket for the last two consecutive years and the player of the year %u2018Ranadev Basu%u2019 doesn%u2019t get chance in the squad.

How you pick a young team without picking India%u2019s most successful bowler for the last two consecutive years in domestic cricket? Fast bowler Ranadev Basu has taken double number of wickets( 58 wickets in 8 matches in Indian pitches !!!) than VRV Sing ( another proven failure) an others who got picked for team. 9 wickets in our biggest domestic match %u2018Ranji Final%u2019 against Sachin, Jafar, Ramesh Power, Agarkar, Zahir, Amal Mazumdar, Piyush Chaula, Rohit etc? He also got the player of the year award. What else someone had to do to get a place ? Is it because he is form Bengal and don%u2019t have a non Bengali surname like %u2018Raina%u2019 or %u2018Mongia%u2019 or %u2018Sing%u2019? or is it because he is from Sourav%u2019s State ? Or should we not pick a player when he is in prime form and eager to give 200%? Make him mentally devastated and depressed and then bring into international cricket so that he can not perform?

Mr. rahul roy, you r an idiot man,

Just remember why ur gangoooly had been dropped from the team. when he was a captain he doesn't know how to play a match winning innings.he never played.he was a successful captain all because of the players like rahul, sachin, sehwag, yuvraj contributed to the team in the cituations. he had not became a successful captain by his own performance.mind it.

Now u r talking about rahul's captaincy where the players like ur ganguly are not playing in the crucial matches and throwing their wickets like small babies. if we make ganguly as captain again the team will spoil further more man.............

First throw ganguly out and every body will play well.

If u see Ganguly's record as captain he has most number of century as a captain only.........about Dravid, please understand every body cant lead the team........when Dada left captaincy India was in number 2 in world ranking, if Dravid was atleast at par, he should have kept that position firm, with Ganguly out of the squard the most of the period under Dravids captaincy..........even without Sourav in the team and with Sehwag (most favorite of our captain) in the team dravid did nothing at all

by valaparla swarup on May 19, 2007 04:00 PM  | Hide replies

VVS Laxman is a champion player and time and again he proved that His ommission from ODI was sad but now being ommitted from tests which is a blunder and entirely demoralising.Sachin has a halo because he scored heavily but is he champion player .No not the least ,he always failed when it mattered the most.Look at Australians they have more than one champion player in the team all the time.Let Gavaskar say any thing we are not bothered nor I read his column as laced with arrogance.Less said the better about Ganguly his body language often betrays conceited mind.Does he deserve place in the team .He is street smart ppolitician disowned publicly Dalmiya but for his support he would long ceased to be member of indian team. You call it survival instincts or plainly a crook.Give thier due to talented people like Laxman but for his superlaive innings we would not have beaten the mighty australians .we should stand up for such players and for those indulge in petty politics

Have you seen Gaguly's performecne from the last SA tour? highest scorer there, man of the series against WI in India, highest scorer in WC, highest scorer in last Inda-pak test match where all you Dravid, Sachin, Laxman were bundled against Shoib Aktar...

rehul is a hopeless player as well as captain. I think he is the only player in Indian Cricket who came to the team with a silver spoon. In his early days his failures were ignored like anything. He is the only player who got adequate chances to prove himself. Similarly now he is getting adequate chances for captainship. Please see his record.
