USA Cricket Board Suspended.
by on Mar 06, 2007 12:09 AM

Dear friends: USA cricket was suspended by ICC due to the mismangement of it's current Executive Board. I am an Indian who moved to USA 33 years ago and I have missed only one year of playing cricket in USA. I live in Houston texas and currently we have 32 teams in Houston which started with just one team in 1976. We love our cricket and yes most of the players are ex-pat from, India, Pakistan, West Indies, Shri Lanka, Bangladesh, England, Australia, NZ, SA, zimbabway etc. Problem was with some corrupt administrators and many leagues and clubs wrote to ICC to get rid of these people. As a matter of there are over six hundred cicket clubs across USA and over 10000 cricketers play regular cricket. Some of us has started introducing the cricket to schools and volunteer to teach them. Yes we do love our cricket and like any other game it will take time and good management and marketing. So do not think it was kicked out by some laziness but current administrator wanted to hang on to power and modified the constitution to suit them and rigged it to pass. So we all complained and ICC did listen. Hopefully we can have better administrators next time around. Go to cricinfo and go to country site USa and you can read lot more about what is happening with USA cricket. Thanks

Guys !!Pls dont jump to conclusions. With the rising number of Indians flocking to US it wont be long before cricket is accepted in US also..
As long as it makes money for them, y would the officials here not introduce the game.
And who said we r not punctual.I have worked in India, Middle-East and US.I have always seen Indians to be punctual in their timings. So y spread and downgrade us when infact we are as good as others if not better. Its one thing to point out the flaws (when they exist) and totally different thing to give rise to an non-existing issue.
And if u guys think we r worst in punctuality, read this article which came in BBC and decide for yourself.

I guess we are ok with no of times playing cricket. Too much teams are making matches one-sided which is not good for the game. U.S has always had hated cricket and they came with up with Baseball. Why would they want to kill their own gme by playing something invented nby the british> Its good I.C.C banned them.

"Why would they want to kill their own gme by playing something invented nby the british"
Its not "killing" their own game.I believe there r lots of different people who prefer different games so rise of 1 shud not be seen as end of another.rather its a different market.eg-most of Middle-East countries play football but since it has a higher % of Indian-Paki population cricket is still played there and watched there.Even here in US, i have seen so many Europeans play soccer which is not played by 'Americans'.

well soccer is gaining a lot of popularity in the us, mainly cuz of its introduction to schools, plus its duration is pretty close to that of american football, basketball, and hockey. Americans in general are not very fond of sports that are very lengthy. they're even starting to hate baseball (a much shorter version of cricket, and considered more action packed than ODIs, which can be true about some games, but not all, i think). anyway its popularity is on a decline and cricket is never even gonna attract the people here. Well TWENTY-TWENTY might have a chance though. Very bleak but it has a chance!

Sports minister not being a sportsman....by that analogy Bhaskar, the CEO of an auto company has to be a car mechanic or the head of Brittania should be a baker! Also, get your facts right about who the sports minister is and in what capacity does Pawar officiate.

well ..vikram, the CEO of an auto Co. need not be a car mechanic, but he can be from businness, engineering or commerce background.Because an auto Co.will be supported substantially by these 3 trades.
Your analogy here is miserably uncalled for.
Bhaskar is right. It is because of lunatics like mr sharad pawar that the state of sports is in shambles in this country.

Well, you can never imagine or expect the US of A to get into the skin of something so lowly & colonial as Cricket, can you? They can hardly be expexted to share loyalties with Cricket alongwith Basketball/ Baseball/ American Rules Football/ Tennis/ Athletics.
Transversely, it is true with India. We Indians too shun the idea of sharing loyalties with any other sport than Cricket (100%) & Football (W. Bengal).
To speak the truth, I am amazed at the fact that till now, the International Governing Bodies of Major Sports have not yet Banned our Indian Sporting Federations (other than Cricket of course) for their Lethargy to show any Sparkling Progress, 60 years after Independence.

I understand your concern but am moved to tell you that the majority of people playing cricket in the U.S. are Desis and hence the compromise in standards... funny as it may seem..... some of them still operate on the cliche'd Indian Standard Time( An hour delay from the scheduled time of play)... lolzz...

Hi Abhimanyu lakshman,

I request you not make such generic categorization as cliched IST on a public forum...
Remember to be an Indian first and speak only nice things about India.

Be pretty careful & concious with your language (Languaging) when you write about India...

This is a request...

Now to Rediff, requesting you not to publish such comments about India in a blog, this is equivalent to abuse...

I love my India.

Hey,

I am sorry that you took offense. Actally i am not! Your interpretation is your reflection of your thoughts on how you think people see you. Did you get that? Why should i applogize for your interpretation? I intended no punn, Period! I should also let you know that i aint some gora/northie/southie/Americanized/ whatever you may call me..:). I thought we were talking about cricket in America.... i should not see why you in Bangalore or any other part of the world, are worried about cricket or DESIS in America or my thoughts on it. Yes, all indians are not late but a majority of them are. So whats wrong in recognizing the act? This is not a public bolg... i dont see anyone else comming here other than Desis..... so why not recognize it in our backyard and try to fix it before the world finds out? I am not laughing at you, why would i do that? I was laughing at myself... m a DESI... a proud one! And finally,Learn to chill out dude.... cant you laugh at yourself? You'll add some more years to your patriotic soul!
Anyways... i am gald that you replied.

Abhi

Hi.

This precise act of so called laughing it ourselves leads to the next ... mocking act of our one more gap in our system... I am not recommending to close eyes / ears to our mistakes and look at the other side... but I am REQUESTING only to bring out the big positives ...

If you are a regular at other blogs, have you ever noticed a westerner commenting anything about themselves with a negative conotation?

We should maintain our self-esteem & be PROUD to be an Indian...

Believe me we have a much safer , nice & good life inspite of what you call as IST than any of the western world...

please speak only nice things about India & Indians...

Believe me we Indians & India is much better place & people ... we are certainly envied by the westerners... it is just that we like to so call laugh at ourselves to please others...

Join me to be one of those Indian who is proud to be an Indian... and NEVER NEVER give a comment that is even to a bit might degrade ourselves...

Jai Hind...

Hello,

Re: have you visited other websites?

Positive is good, I believe in a lot of things that you have to say. But I am appalled that you take to heart what someone, who is sitting in some corner of the world, has to say about you or your background. I think these people are so little, so downtrodden & self-deprecating that they take it out on you or anyone who is vulnerable/Different. And you considering their view is like giving credit to them. I live in the western world. I truly know how people think here. Though all humans are prejudiced, including you, which should not mean that everyone hates you. You should take it as they don't know you, and usually unfamiliar people/things always makes others hostile. Its just human nature%u2026. I see that you are hostile right now. I understand your sense of hostility. I cannot sympathize with you or your cause. I can only empathize with you. So I hope you get some exposure and get a better understanding of things and people before you come to any sort of conclusions. It is just these types of hostile behaviors that create hatred. In order to love yourself, you don%u2019t have to hate others. Nobody hates you or where you are from, the people that really matter and worth crediting, think really high of you. They recognize the differences and appreciate it.

Lets think of it this way... what if tomorrow you an alien species that attacks the world? Would not these thoughts become obsolete? Would you not unite with a fellow human disregarding his predisposition? Or for that matter... how would you know that the alien is here to hurt you? What if the species just wants to co exist? Don%u2019t you think that we are just hostile? What country's citizen are you going to be? Wont you look for help/ familiarity ... on n on n on....

Let me illustrate something else to you... ok, lets say that the western world is brought down because you did something... so who would you be hostile against next? Your neighbor... cause he is different from you and thinks different?? What next after that??

I can relate your thoughts to a lot things.... political agendas, religious fanaticism... but I do not have the patience nor the authority to talk about all of that. Also, I think we have stretched the topic way far from where it was... I should credit you with that. Peaceful co-existence is a must; the best way to do that is get to know the other person. Why not make the first move? Why not be a little better than the other person?

Abhi

P.S.
I respect your views, i do not intend win a conversation here but I felt it necessary to bring up these topics to counter the underlying falsity in the thoughts of millions of people. It%u2019s just my view and you are entitled to yours. Wisdom tells me that neither one of can win an argument. So if victory is what you are after... I humbly surrender. I may be wrong, so could you be. No, I am not a Gandhian... though I feel his thoughts are amazing on such topics and sometime I myself feel that he was so unreal. If he were true.. then what man he was!
Enjoy.....:)

This suspension has nothing to do with time frame by ICC but it has to do with the bad administration by current USACA Executives. There are 600 plus cricket clubs with over 10000 cricketers across USA playing organized league cricket over weekends. I have immigrated to USA 33 years ago and I have missed only one year of not playing cricket. We have 32 teams in Houston alone at present and we started with just one team in 1976. We have so many dedicated and talented players among us. We play cricket year round in Houston. yes it is mostly played by the Ex-pats from cricket playing countries but in last few years some dedicated people has started introducing it to schools and we have also started going to some schools here and volunteer our time to teach some basics to American kids. It's not easy but with some dedication and persistent effort slowly we can make more Americans aware of the great game. Main obstacle is the length of game. In USA a team sport will only become popular if it's played within 2-3 hour time frame. Yes in USA you have options to so many games and time is limited. But once Americans catch on the game they will support it. It has to be a part of their entertainment.
ICC suspended USACA as so many leagues and clubs across USA were disatisfied with current administration and their attitude to hang on to the power at any cost by manipulating the constitution. ICC were innundated by mails to remove current executives. Pleas go to cricinfo and go to country site USa and you can read lot more details about what's happening in USACA. We love our cricket and we are doing our best to spread it to others.

Mr Pat Thakur,
Get this fact ur US of A wont adopt any game which they cannot have World Series :P
Look at NBA or NFL or baseball. They call their tourney as world series.
what a joke.
which of US team has beaten world teams in those respective sports?

They were beaten by Mexico in baseball and Japan won the world cup.

Who won the basketball worldcup or olympic gold medal?

btw, before Pat where was ur indian name?:P

Later, one of my colleagues asked ,\" Hey, Moe, you guys have lots of crickets in Australia and India ?\" He thought we were talking about the insect cricket.I think that about sums up the cricinfo of the average guy here- and it makes no difference to them.
