WHY WAS IRFAN NOT EVEN CONSIDERED?
by Gladys Nel on Jun 15, 2007 02:13 PM

why did Vengsarkar not even consider irfan? especially as it was mentioned in numerous newspaper articles and on the internet that irfan was bowling much better after spending time at the Foundation. what does Vengsarker have against Irfan? Irfan, i have some advice for you - why don't you go and play domestic cricket in South Africa, where i am sure you will be appreciated. you will also be near your special lady friend then which should also help? India obviously do not appreciate your talent!!!!

Yuvi should have been made vice captain keeping future captaincy in mind. Yuvi is a stroke player whereas Dhoni is unorthodax player even though he is consistent. Yuvi has won more matches for indian than dhoni. BCCI - Brainless Cricket Controllers of India don't think this. Will they ?

ODI TEAM SELECTION FOR IRELAND TOUR
by Rakesh Sharma on Jun 13, 2007 02:52 PM

Return of Sachin, Sourav and Ajit Agarkar are going to strengthen the side. In fact Agarkar was dropped from the side for no apparent reason but just to make up for the failure of the batsmen. If we go through the bowling figures of the World Cup, out of three pacers; Munaf and Ajit took 4 wickets apiece at an economy rate of 3.95 and 4.00 respectively, whereas Zaheer took 5 at 4.25; so there was hardly any difference between the performance of our pacers. Also, Ajit's performance was marred by some dropped catches, notably by Saurav Ganguly when the whole team was looking at him in disbelief for not even attempting to catch the simplest lolly. Also he was the most unfortunate bowler when the umpires turned down two appeals of LBW against Sri Lanka of him to the deliveries which were hitting stumps as shown by Hawk Eye later on.Failure of our spin bowling mainstay Harbhajan to take a single wicket in 2 matches and giving away plenty of runs was a big setback. In fact, India lost the games not because of any bowler but because our batsmen were not prepared to play patiently. There are some people who want Munaf to be in the side. He is a good cricketer but not fit enough to play in ODI cricket. He certainly gives away 10-15 runs in every match because of his poor fielding. Even the 37 years old Glenn McGrath is a much better fielder. Pathan's performance in the last 10 matches has been pathetic. Balaji and Nehra may or may not be fit but they failed to take wickets in

Selection
by Gandhi on Jun 13, 2007 02:39 PM

When ever the selection is public discussed, regionalism comes out as a topic. Although Irfan is good prospect ive all rounder, he need to put in more tooth to his pace. I ma sure he will be back with a bang. The section of Zaheer, Agarkar, Sharma, and new fast bowlers in preference to Irfan is correct presently. Irfan cannot be stock bowler, he can be effective in short and regulars bursts. Only good planning and captaincy can make him work effective.

Even Gavaskar has 34 test centuries. But, you know and we know that his shelf life is over. Its the same with Sachin.
When the product is past its expiry date,it rots, starts stinking, and is harmful for consumption.

Please stop this nonsense of quoting statistics whenever we talk about Sachin. A player with a no half century, but of more commitment/dedication is much better than a player with 41 37 Centuries. Players like Mic. Bevan, Robin Singh rank well above the so called 'little' master!

Seems like few people are in fools paradise ... sachin definitely is not! there's a huge gap between a good and a great player ... and you know better, sachin is the greatest of all! how much more the world try to take away from him what he deserves, no one can do that ... coz the guy has got real guts. Guess you should also check on team's morale when he's not in playing 11 ... you'll know the answer!

sethu, you are absolutely right. sachin is playing for records and even not enjoying his cricket now. i dont remember when last time he smiled on field after winning a match for his team. sachin should play like sachin not like an ordinary batsman. "sher ghaas khane lage to usai sher nahin kehte." problem is now he is playing like a average batsman but wanted treatment like a champion which he was not in prfesent form.

Agarkar
by amol kulkarni on Jun 13, 2007 10:42 AM  | Hide replies

Agarkar is best indian bowler for last two years. He is top rated indian bowler in ratings even though he did not play against ban.
He will be all-time highest wicket taker for india in next 1-2 years.
Every one thinks that he is soft target and starts blaming him without going through statistics.Even throughout last 2 years only bhajji's econ is better than him.
He is medis shy and thats why media does not highlight his performance since they don't get any masala news from him.
former players blame him because their fav player doesnot get chance since he is performing consistantly since last year.
In WC he bowled brilliantly against srilanka.player like jaysurya was not comfortable for a single ball he faced ajit.
thats way he is back.Hope He and INDIA both have a gr8 series against SA

RE:Agarkar
by Rakesh Sharma on Jun 13, 2007 03:47 PM
Very right. In fact all the people who have been writing against Agarkar are getting emotional about Mumbai players being favoured by a coterie of Mumbaikars. But that is not the case. If one looks at any web site like cricinfo and look at the stats, Ajit Agarkar's name is very prominently displayed in almost all the bowling records. He is a man who has performed and he is in the team because of his performances. His strike rate is better than Kapil Dev and even Anil Kumble; not to mention the likes of Zaheer Khan and Munaf Patel. In fact he is berated by some small ex-players of Delhi/Haryana like Maninder Singh, Kirti Azad and Ashok Malhotra who have throughout their lives been beaten black and blue by Mumbai. And since they do not have the heart to criticize Sachin, they have an easy prey in Ajit Agarkar. Also, most of the Hindi channels invite mostly North Zone players who are quite biased against Agarkar and a wrong impression has been created by them that Agarkar is there just because of Mumbai Dadagiri. In fact during a TV programme one of the above mentioned experts was telling the public that Ajit Agarkar has taken 70 odd more wickets after taking his first 50 wickets (in 23 ODIs), thereby meaning that he had taken 120 odd wickets by that date. I knew fully well but still when I checked for the records sake at the website, Agarkar had already taken 217 wickets in his name. This is the height to which these people can stoop.

BCCI CAN BE RENAMED MBCCI - Maharashtra Board of Cricket Control of India. All persons holding important designations are Maharashtrians.

Little wonder why Zaheer khan shifted to Mumbai from Baroda. Lucky Ajit Agarkar can play until he retires himself and after that he will be the bowling coach of India :) Height of regionalism....

Dear Sumeet,
You should not feel that much proud to be a true Maharastrian. What I feel pathetic for you is that you yourself don't know all best Indian(Maharastrian)Cricketers, as you've left out one greatest Cricketer of India (Maharastra), Shri Ajit Wadekar. I'm not maharastrian, I'm an Indian. But I regard those in your list as great Indian Cricketers. First try to be a human being and forget all these maharastrian, gujrati, madrasi, kannad, bihari etc. etc. Be an Indian.

There is not one guy among these who would command a place in any Australian team of any era. The only standout names among these are Gavaskar, Manjrekar, Merchant, Tendulkar, Vengsarkar, Umrigar.
Gavaskar is the guy who scored 36 in 60 overs. Tendulkar never scores in challenging situations. The rest could not play fast bowling. As for Shastri and Sandhu the bowler the less said the better. One couldnt spin the bowl the other didnt know what pace was.

TALK OF UNITY IN DIVERSITY. Mumbai is a great city and period. But mumbai is not India. Sachin is an Indian before he is Mumbaiite. He considers the same. But apart from Sachin, Mumbai is the biggest sh@t hole in the world. Everything about it is exaggerated, not by the place but by the people of Mumbai. Mumbai s@#ks big time but let us not involve those people from saying they were mumbaiites first.

Tht's the bane of indian cricket, regional politics.Remember, there used to be 7-8 players from Karnataka, when GR Vishwanath was the chairman of the selection commitee. Now,it's Mumbai's turn again.God knows, when this will change.Indian cricket will not move forward until this evil of regionalism exists.
