RE:Breaking News!!!! Ford has declined the offer

this is all b'coz of our great gavaskar, hope he will be happy now - Wat a mess and shameful.
I don't know whether Graham Ford is good or not but one thing I do know is I am glad this whole sordid saga termed 'The Next Indian Coach Hunt' is over. Currently, a coach can help with a player's skills but if the player is slipping into a comfort zone and not delivering results, a coach has no power to remove him from the team. Therefore by having no say in selection, the coach is effectively powerless to change the direction and orientation of the team. And he doesn't even step onto the field to play matches. So why this hype about the coach?
It has also been ridiculous how much media space has been given to this coach episode. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that the reason why Indian team has been failing is because the individual players are not delivering results. A lot of these players, with their experience should be the top batsmen and bowlers in the world currently (eg. Sehwag, Harbhajan, Pathan). But instead they are still struggling to establish themselves. I personally suspect this is because they have had too much fame and money too soon. This naturally has dampened their hunger for success and made them mentally lazy. In this situation, the role of chief selector is vital as he has the power to put them on notice: perform or perish. So why does the media not stress this role and instead decide to waste space on a guy who basically just runds errands for the captain and is a bouncing board for players?
If cricket India is lead by Indian coach,it may lead to partiality of north, south, east, west in time of selection...To avoid all these things,BCCI spending more on foriegn coach. In future it may require foriegn captian, vice captian to lead India team.
What I would like to know is why Whatmore was ruled out? No mention of that , havent seen it anywhere, havent seen any great press guy ask the question or discuss it - was it for cricketing reasons or non cricketing politics??
India gets an oppurtunity to make a future changing, deep impcating decision once in maybe a decade, this time it was a slam dunk, you had the best result producing coach ever in cricket (ironically both the teams that beat India to oust them from the world cup were coached by Whatmore from nobodys to world beaters, atleast in one case - both teams from countries 1/10th in size, population and money compared to India) , he expresses interest in being coach, there are hardly any other contenders, the decision is just a no brainer, AND WHAT DO OUR GREAT BRAINS DO??
No wonder that India has been a below average team and will continue to be below average probably for eternity!
Good luck, keep it up India - the incredibly thought out strategic decisions(time and again) and the eternal mediocrity of the great Indian cricket team!
I'll now await the day when India cant get past their subcontinental 1/10th sized neighbours to qulaify for any major competition, leave alone the rest of the world!!
This coach guy has never played international cricket. Why do we indians always go behind white cockroaches? There are so many players in India who has tons and tons of international cricket and potential to become world-class coaches. If we continue this, even Sachin and dravid will not be considered for coach positions in the future.

Because we guys will obey for the white cockroaches. Do you think our people will follow Kapil or any other ex-players. Instead they will create problem and sometimes will be screwed by other jealousy ex-players to create problem. More or less the same like OUR CONGRESS party going behind non Indians, when we have so many senior party leaders. We Indians mentality is always going behind white and even ready to clean their toilets but will not accept we Indian as leaders. Indian crab story will be the very good example every one knows which I think I dont want to say the story. Its clear we Indian mind set is that other should not come up either he himself coming up or not. We never going to clear our bad mind. It is Indians fact.

Excellent. It's unfortunate, but very true. We simply don't trust overselves, nor we have any respect for our culture or languages. If you read 'Freedom at Midnight', it states that Nehru asked Mountbatten's wife (I heard Nehru was flurting with her.) that since there is no space to walk upto her, she can step on to the Indians (vilagers in audience I guess) and come to the stage.

An acclaimed player cannot be an automatic choice for coach. Kapil is a great player but not a good coach. Coaching is a different ball game. Itz all about strategies , man management ,utilizing the resources at right time and right place. A guy like sachin can never be a good coach.

I think Sachin can be a very good coach. A player has seen what is happening in ground, how to tacklw the bowler, how to play in pressure, He has good techinque, has worked well in international level. So what can be a better coach then him?
