Sack Rahul Nanda from the forum....
by heaven on Jun 08, 2007 12:10 PM

My dear pal Rahul,

Till you have played cricket at a competitive level you are noone to 'sack rahul dravid'.....there is a point of view and I respect that, but beyond that the idea is repulsive!

Firstly, I agree that Dravid is the captain and apart from attending presentations he needs to do much more! Secondly, every one doesnt have to spew blood and gore to be labelled as a 'fine captain'; yes a killer instinct is welcome but it can be subtle!

If your idea of 'inspiration' is pulling out one's shirt and waving it around while we win, then maybe we should be playing rugby or maybe boxing and not cricket! One can do the same by not displaying and advertising their passion so openly.

Even if Ganguly is handed the captaincy right now, he will sink faster than a stone in the pond! He needs support, and he had tons of it when he was captain; no 1 example is Mr.Dravid himself, who as some reader pointed out, batted at an average of over 100 during that stint! So at least 70-80 runs or more was confirmed from the wall and that made Ganguly's job much easier!

Also, the rest of the lot did better than now, and if you say Dravid cannot inspire them to do the same, then your logic is warped! The guys, with an average of 10yrs of cricket behind them dont need a Captain to teach them how to bat, they need to motivate themselves to excel for the country.....

So before 'sacking' Dravid, let look at some of our homegrown stars, and try sacking them first!

Sack Dravid as captain

If Dravid would have come earlier on the scene we might have liked him.I mean before Ganguly era,but surely not after we have seen Ganguly. Most indians thought Captain just needs to go to the toss and then come to the presentation ceremony thats it.Rest if the 10 players give good performence and thats y we win or loose a cricket game.
I dont blame them, they can only believe in what they can see. While Imran was captain of the pakistan team that won the world cup and then Ranatunga in 1996.We were still wondering this is due to the great show by the 10 guys in their team...nothing to do with captaincy. But we knew that was not right that rule some how only applied to India.Still we wondered how come 10 average people and one great leader made the difference...if he was only going out for the toss and then getting the speech ready at end of every game. But we only want to believe in what applies to India.
Then came Ganguly....things changed Indian team started to look a bit more aggresive.Yuvraj,Zaheer Bhajji,Sehwag,Pathan,Nehra,Dhoni, gelled in so well with the existing seniors ...it seems like they were always part of this team. Pathan even in his 1st test match was miles ahead of what i have seen him perform under Dravid.
India became a strong unit.Aussies respected Indian team this time not just VVS laxman and Sachin.Ganguly with his team earned this respect like Michael Vaughan did after beating australia in 2005 ashes. The problem Dravid faces is people now understan

The problem Dravid faces is people now understand that captain has a much bigger role then just going for the toss and speak in presentation ceremonies. Dravid is exposed and for all those who think Ganguly should be the captain are wrong%u2026we can%u2019t go back again. We need to look at the future. At the moment we need to make Yuvraj the captain and get Ganguly, sachin and Dravid to support him as long as they are playing. This is the time where Yuvraj can learn from Ganguly.IF we cant make Yuvraj the captain and there is noone who we can see as a future captain %u2026.then we need to get Ganguly back as captain to just fix a few things and then hand over the captaincy to the new captain.

The best thing will be to make Ganguly captain for a short term and let one of the future prospective captains(Yuvraj/Sehwag) learn from him. This will be really good for the Indian cricket

Psychologist pls check 'indian'...
by heaven on Jun 07, 2007 04:54 PM  | Hide replies

There is one gentleman on the forum who goes by the name of 'indian', but he is a dhabbha as far as being an 'indian' is concerned....

No one agrees with him, and in his frustration, he starts bawling and calling people names...which anyways have not impact!!

The behaviour is not like an Indian, but more Paki who wants to forment trouble in India...his so-called opinions on cricket are so crass that they stink of hypocrisy....and when his hollow comments are pointed out by people in the forum, he starts crying and shooting his mouth off!!

This is a Psycho check for him; pls do not add to your already stressed out brain and go back to advising villagers/illiterates about the state of Indian cricket...:)

We cannot judge Dravid as a poor captain just because we lost the world cup!

Remember even now, the team is building itself. We are also battling 'red-tapism' by the BCCI!

Firstly we have to build the nucleus of the Team India of the future; in the process we will lose matches, we will have poor performances, but it will all be a learning curve if only youngsters are inducted without a bias! We have a talented crop, but they need to build character; ability to fight back which is our weak nerve!

Dravid as captain....
by heaven on Jun 07, 2007 12:33 PM  | Hide replies

Was reading some posts on Dravid; surprising that people should forget that even during Ganguly's time, it was always Dravid performing all the way. In fact he earned the sobriquet, 'the wall' during that phase.

Reader forget that Ganguly was given the mandate of rebuilding the team, and there were all number of people who were making their mark in the sport and hence the desperation to perform was always there. Yes, Ganguly brought back the 'swagger' into Indian cricket! The attitude was aggro, and the huddle was made famous specially since we performed well in the last world cup!

But gone are those days;

1. Ganguly is a pale shadow of his 'prince of Kolkata' days; nowdays he doesnt bat, he scratches around.
2. Tendulkar is a lost case.
3. Yuvraj is become arrogant and scores once is 10 matches.
4. Sehwag, is looking like he has lost it along with his hair and another 10 kilos that he has put on.
5. Dhoni, after the initial promise is again on a sticky wicket.
6. There is no opening combination worth of note.
7. Bowling is looking insipid as always, pacement is constantly on the injury list.
8. Bhajji is looking like he only can sell 'Bhajjis'; his off spin can be picked by a kindergarden student!

So with this army of losers, how in the world do you expect Dravid to get the team to win matches. Add to the misery, the BCCI is back to its old tricks of politics and coach 'swapping'....

I can only pity Dravid's job! So dont blame him!

The average of Dravid in all the test matches won by India during captaincy of Ganguly is 109. Just think how valuable Dravid was for Ganguly n now also under his own captaincy he is the only one perfoming consistently.

Ok think it.. why all these problems have come up once the evergr8 Dravid-Chappel era began. Cos Dravid is not sure of what he wants from his players. If Sehwag has lost its touch then also he is being carried, even though this means changing the orders of others. No body knows where he has to play. Even the gr8 Captain has no clue of that.
People might think that he is ready to bat anywhere. Well I tell you he has to bat anywhere because the batting order of team is not decided yet. He knew his postition when he was playing under Ganguly, bt now forget about oppositions, even team india has no clue of any of its player.. Isn't it gr8??

Why ????????????????
by indian on Jun 07, 2007 12:19 PM  | Hide replies

There are so many people here who are just blind in their faith and respective love.
When u accuse Ganguly of playing for himself only, then how can u forget that for his first 150 OD int Dravid used to play for himself (with a strike rate of 61) !!! why don't u level Dravid as a selfish ans self-centered guy. This is ridiculous, Ganguly gave us us enough joyful moments, we were just afew steps ahead of being worldbeaters. It's ok Ganguly was out of form, so what !!! then why Dravid played his first 150 matches with such a pathetic strike rate and an average of 34 ???

my dear pal.....if you understand cricket, lets get this straight! In every team there is one guy who has to drop anchor!

We can be a bunch of swashbuckling stroke makers and when there is a crisis, the whole team crumbles like a pack of cards! Dravid, while you mention had a strike rate of 61 was the reason why India (if at all) won matches and made Ganguly's stint as a captain look good! By your logic, if the team is comprised of half a doz sehwags/Yuvi/etc.....we will score 350 runs/50overs, once in a year...the rest of the time, we will be struggling at 90 for 8!!

So do more homework before commenting!!

hey heaven-wale langur, dravid's first 150 matches had only 17 under ganguly's captaincy.. he scored 374 runs in them at 28.94... strike rate 63.1.. ( source cricinfo).. india won 1 match where he scored above 60... so dravid anchor and what not??? check your stats dude... you must be a no-brainer like dravid himself...
