India wicketkeeper Mahendra Singh Dhoni [Images] gained a spot to be fourth in the latest LG-ICC Player rankings for ODI batsmen released on Tuesday.
Dhoni, who was the man of the series in the one-day international series against Bangladesh, has a chance to move up to third if he continues his fine form during the Afro-Asia Cup, which begins on Tuesday with a Twenty20 challenge match followed on Wednesday by the first of three one-dayers.
The 25-year-old is just five rating points behind Australia's Mike Hussey and if he continues with his good form over the next week, he will close the gap on Kevin Pietersen [Images] and Ricky Ponting [Images] at the top.
Skipper Rahul Dravid [Images] also moved up one place to be 15th, just one point behind South African batsman Herschelle Gibbs [Images].
In the bowlers' chart, off-spinner Harbhajan Singh [Images], despite being out of action after being dropped for the tour of Bangladesh has climbed up one spot to share the 13th position with England [Images] all-rounder Andrew Flintoff [Images] and Sri Lankan pacer Lasith Malinga.
The only other Indian in the bowling top-20 is Ajit Agarkar [Images], who occupies the 16th spot.
Shaun Pollock [Images] continues to lead the pack and is set to play in the Afro-Asian Cup as a specialist batsman following a minor foot surgery.
The series will be a chance for another great Asian batsman, Sanath Jayasuriya of Sri Lanka, to move back up the table having just fallen three pla

hehehe that was funny mate...but note that sachin has scored the most centuries against australia and sri lanka (if u consider them weak nations!)
This can happen only in India...People remember his 152 against Namibia but forget the 98 against Pakistan in WC...people remember his centuries against kenya, BD and zimbabwe, but forget his 7 centuries against australia, out of which 4 were in australia itself...
comon guys, its high time we indians got rid of the 'cockroach syndrome'...learn to appreciate, love and respect others....cheers!!!

Its true what you mentioned, but unfortunately (myself included as one of the criticising culprits:)) off late SRT has not been doing well.. The point is a player has to gain his place based on form and not only based on his past records. I m more of a fan of the Indian team than SRT or SG or any individual. The reason why australia is at the top is, Ponting and Gilchrist r still performing and they r not in the team based only on their past record.. Its absolutely not to take away the credit from SRT, but he has to score runs against good opposition NOW. Its as simple as that.

Sachin never scored 4 ODI centuries in Australia. His 2 centuries agains Aus came on Sharja, one in Bangladesh and one in Goa. I remeber only 4. So definetly he doesnt score 4 centuries in Australia. May be he scored 4 centuries outside India.
Lets suggest to the BCCI to have more matches in Bangladesh/Bermuda/Canada/Ireland/UAE so that Dhoni, SRT, Dravid, Ganguly can all come into the top 10 ranking....if we dont win important matches, so what...at least we will have 5 out of the top10 as Indians....
This will help the bowlers too....Munaf will then become the greatest pace bowler we have ever produced. Harbajan will become a off spin wizard and legend from India!! This will also help all the players bag chunky contracts.....and add the name of Indian cricket in the world arena...

we got a whole lot of cry-babies in rediff. article on narayana murty - criticize him article on azim premji - criciticize him article on cricket - criticize players article on movies - criticize actors article on politics - criticize politicians
there is just one term for the attitude - CRY BABIES
i personally think that someone should make a 6 ft x 4 ft banner of this list and put it in the dressing room. will serve to remind the indians that they need atleast 4 players in the list, if not more.

the little kid's grandmom: 298 the little kid's great grandomom: 297 the little kid's kid sis who was born yesterday: 295
In my view none of the Indian player deserves ranking amongst the world's top players. How can a player be ranked 4 in the world if his team cannot make to the top eight in the world cup? I feel that the points should be awarded based on the degree of difficulty and quality of opposition team. For example, if a player earns 5 points by putting up a good performance against Bangladesh, he deserves to be awarded 50 points if he puts up a good performance against Australia. What do you think, guys?

In school if somebody wanted to improve GPA then she was taking the easiest course possible under a lenient professor and getting an A. Where as the real briliant was taking the toughest course under the toughest prof and getting an A. The first one was the approach of the mediocore guys and something like an Worldcup is the proof of their unworthiness in the practical world.
