big blow
by Gursimran Panesar on Jun 02, 2007 07:47 AM  | Hide replies

another big blow to the quality of ODI cricket and cricket overall.

Look at these guys - Gilchrist is in really good form right now and he doesn't think like Sachin that i should linger around for another 2-3 years to make money and lowering the quality of the Indian Cricket.
Shame on you Sachin!!

Right, but he will hear or see this forum, he is hiding behind a heavy champion, SP the future ICC chief executive, so for sachin the future is becoming more and more secure. He is utterly shameless. The moment he scored a century against Bangladesh, he should have quit cricket, because he had proved to the world he was not going thru a bad patch but he simply cannot face good teams any longer.

For starters, could you two stop bickering here & go donate a little at Asha (http://www.ashanet.org)?

Help some kid buy a textbook first and then rant about patriotism to your heart's content.

Our boys work hard too. But not matter how much work they put in, they'll always be exposed by real match situations which demand not only mental strength, but also a "I've done it before & I can do it again" attitude. That sort of attitude must first be developed in domestic cricket (look at Hussey).

BCCI must play less ODI's so that national players can participate in domestic competitions, which will improve the standard of our domestic cricket. They'll initially lose some money from telecasting ODI's but will make it back in 2-3 years when:
1) National team becomes good enough to go further in international competitions, which means telecasters & sponsors won't be afraid to pay top dollar.
2) Domestic games improve enough to be telecasted & watched by at least a fraction of ODI watchers.

But the above won't happen because the BCCI will get rolled over every couple of years and new people will come in with their own agenda. Which means our national team is destined to be mediocre for some time to come.

The only thing we can do is to try & raise the profile of our domestic cricket by following it as much as we can. When half-brained elements of the media like Harish Kotian realise that there is a market for domestic content, they will start writing more about it and we would've at least set the ball rolling.
