Only rain can save
by JAGANNATHAN GOPI on Jul 23, 2007 02:09 PM

Any team who chases 350 plus will fail to reach the target due to excess pressure, that too on final day. so dont be in front of ur tv's to watch this final day. sure you will be in trouble with headache and stomach pain (boiling)

India or Rain who can save the test?
by Abed Jani on Jul 23, 2007 11:29 AM  | Hide replies

So far this test is going as we expected, but not wished. Inconsistent bowling and consistent bad batting. Though both are quite common, but we always think that it may be different this time. Once in a year it really happens - like top order clicking and backed by some quality bowling and fielding, but they are few and far between.

As far prediction goes, 'rain' sometime deprived India from winning, but hardly help them to save a match. Ganguly is not a match saver, he never was, only except the 144 against Aussies. And he has a tendency to get out early in a new day or session; first 4-5 overs are very critical for him (could be first 4-5 balls). If there is 30-40 overs play possible today, England can win comfortably. Though I wise I am wrong.

We always complain about our much vaunted batting line-up for below par performance. But its a myth. Only once in a blue moon they play well out-side India or subcontinent and against good bowling. So they are like that. If we can accept it, it will become less painful for us.

As a bengali myself I have nothing against ganguly, neither against dravid or sachin. I wish they all play well. but it does not happen usually. Yes, I remember Ganguly played well in SA, but if u remember you can see that he is bit shaky in beginning.

And don't be abusive. then find you own class and talk to them only.

I am sad and disappointed as you are, but my prediction of Ganguly might be out early proved correct. Sorry mate.

I know Sachin, Ganguly, Dravid are all legends. But it is also true that we Indians either like to worship or to abuse, can not take it easy. Or do not like to admit that more often our perfornmance is just mediocre.

Dravid not good enough
by Rahul nanda on Jul 23, 2007 06:47 AM  | Hide replies

Before the test started i had my doubts my 2 players -Kartik and RP singh.I thought they will be just passengers as they are the weaklinks in bowling and batting respectively.
But after looking at their performence of this Indian team i think there is only one weakling thats DRAVID.

RP bowled well in both the inings and Kartik showed some resolve while batting in the second inings although he is not a quality batsman but he showed some gutts.

Dravid-- is like a burden on the team.He made the choice of keeping yuvraj out.Yuvraj was in form batsman. It was more of a political decision rather then cricketing decision.

Yuvraj lost his vice captaincy to Dhoni and as we know Yuvraj is the real threat to Dravid's captaincy.Dravid did not oppose this move.
Dravid wanted Dhoni's support so he prefered Dhoni over yuvraj as we all know Yuvraj is with Tendu and Ganguly.

Now Dravid failed in both inings with the bat.
Lets compare him with Sachin. If we look at recent past...Sachin performed in the future cup.Dravid performed in Bangladesh. So its no point blaming tendu and leaving Dravid alone.

Dravid has not performed for a long time against a quality opposition.

IF we loose this test and Laxman and dhoni fail in the second inings....will Dravid dare to get yuvraj for the next test?

As Dravid and Sachin are out we have already lost this match.Nobody remained to Bat who can win this match for us. Target is well over 300 plus.

Dont't be under false impression.

Rahul,
I think that you are not aware of Dravid's record in overseas pitches. Dravid lost his wicket to a wrong umpiring decision in this match. You do not judge a player of Dravid's class with one failure.

Where is the logic in your argument?. You thought Karthik is the weak link. Ok. And now blaming Rahul for having Dhoni in the team ahead of Yuvi. If you were to lead team, you probably would have gone in without both KKD and Dhoni!!

Firstly i do share your disappointment over India's performance. But let us not accuse Dravid as a knee-jerk reaction. Dravid without doubt is the best batter we have in the team though he has not been the best of captains.

The reasons for our continuous poor performances however lies in the approach.
Our BCCI, Selectors, managers and the think-tanks have selected a DEFENSIVE BATTING SIDE for Test matches.

All of our top 7 batters (with the exception of Dhoni, gone is the attacking Sachin of old) are defensive by their very nature who might at best draw games if a game is evenly poised. If they are under pressure, they are famous for wilting under pressure and their track records proves it.

Now their own batting averages look decent because they make some scores even in a lost match or a drawn one.

But you cannot expect to win matches overseas specially England with this lot (it may only happen if the opposition performs disastrously for some reason)

Our main attacking opener, Sehwag, who has a decent record in England and is feared (believe it or not) by English bowlers, has been dropped for poor performances elsewhere?? India will regret not picking him for England whatever his form.

Even Harbhajan who is attacking by his very nature has not been included in the team.

new faces in the team - Jaffer is in the mould of decade old thinking and does not belong at the very highest of levels besides being a poor fielder.

Karthik is the only plus who found

Now only luck can save India. If it rains for atleast 2 hrs then the england will declare only on the fifth day.it is a shame that we have such a great batting line up but we always fumble at the great occasions. there was a chance to win this teast when we bowled england under 300 runs. Now we look forward to 2nd test match

its a disspointment from indian batsmans,Tendulkar, dravid, ganguly, dhoni N Laxman so great players but still i think they are useless playing out of india...BCCI should keep this players to play only on indian pitches..Its so disgusting. even one batsman out of this 5 did not even score a fifty...and we always say next time.....i think we indians know only to say"NEXT TIME" Now 2nd test match...

It is the mentality. The team does not have any "team spirit". Players are just busy saving their skin, and find excuses. More over BCCI, Selection Committee, and every one associated with Indian Cricket are looking after themselves, their main motto being miling the cash-cow. Indian cricket is the best Cash-Cow that is avaialble in India.

India can only depends on luck, astrology, and horoscope of players. May be Amitabha Bachchan should open his vault and arrange some big pujas for Team India.

It is shocking that we keep on saying we have a great batting line up, but when we need the run, where are they? As far as our bowling department goes, we belong to minnows. BCCI has not done anything to improve our pool of bowlers. Why can't we hire Wasim Akram tocoach our bowlers?
