The questions are more dumb and amateurish than the answers. The media has to do some quality control before they point fingers at others. Most of the guys masquarading as journalists don't know a thing of what they are reporting. How standards have fallen!!

Too Many Expectations
by Sunil Yande on Jul 20, 2007 07:27 PM

The line of questioning at the Borde press conference seemed amateurish and silly at times. One cannot hold the players to every ball they bowl or catch they miss or shot they play. Let us treat the team as a sports team and not the extensions of our wishes with the ability to control it as if it were a "computer game". That is how the media and the viewing public treats the Indian cricket team. Sit back, relax and enjoy the game - is it too much to ask?

What's new!

I just don't understand why newcomers from other team don't have butterflies. There is something wrong about our mental strengths! This is repeating since many decades. We always rely on 1 or 2 bowlers and 1 or 2 batsmen. We need a ratio of 3-4 reliable bowlers and 3-4 reliable batsmen. Then only you can expect to compare against AUS. We blame Sachin for not winning matches. But all I want from him is make runs. If bowlers can't take 20 wickets in the match then how can you blame him. As of now, our bowlers even struggle to take 20 wickets of BD. In those circumstances, how can we blame 1 or 2 players. There is no way to compare our players against AUS players!

We have the best representation of our country out there and let's be frank enough to admit that we are not world beaters. We may have the potential to beat the best once in a while, but we don't have the discipline to be consistent. All things considered, I think the test in evenly poised. I don't understand why there are so many people venting their angst on this team. Let's not forget that the team has come back beautifully. On a nice batting track - making first use of the track - if you don't expect the hosts to rattle up at least 400, then we are not being realistic. After all, its the favourite ground of Andrew Strauss and Michael Vaughan. And Alistair Cook has been in great form this season. So, relax guys. We got Collingwood (who has been their most consistent bat for some time now), we have a night watchman at the crease, we have 4 wickets in the bag and the new ball is due. I think the first day is evenly split with the balance slightly in favour of India.

India & England Test Series.
by Amal Chaudhuri on Jul 20, 2007 12:41 PM

We must have the courage to admit that our medium pacers are just mediocre and its not proper to expect miracle every time we field fast.one more genuine spinner in the squad could have been a better bowling squad particularly when we are playing England. But all is not lost in the match, if we can bat to our full potential on this beauty of a batting track,we can still expect some miracle.

Butterflies to blame?
by Anand Chakrapani on Jul 20, 2007 12:35 PM  | Hide replies

Why not? It happens with everyone. Once the 1st session is done with, only then everyone settles into normal playing rhythm. The trick is to come out (especially the opening bowlers and the slips) fully warmed-up, which probably didn't happen yesterday. Also with 2 left handers opening, the bowling was bound to be awry. We have never bowled well to left handers. When the right handers came in, we started landing the ball in the right places. Relax guys, it "really" happens. Our support staff must concentrate on the following:
Coming on the ground fully "warmed-up"
Learn to bowl and set field positions to left handers.

our selection of bowlers is bad. irfan pathan must have been in team. he is the one who can exploit the conditions in england at the fullest. his swing can be be proven fatal for england. second bowler needed was asheesh nehra. his beautiful seam and swing bowling took us to the finals of 2003 world cup. he was the one who destroyed england batting in semifinals. they are two top swing bowlers in our coutnry. it would not be bad if we have chosen ajeet agarkar or munaf patel as third option. zaheer khan never perform well till he has a fear of throwing out of the team. R P singh has not done well enough in last two years. this is where we have faulted. i am not saying pathan and nehra should be in team if we go to west indies. conditions in indies are different. we should use our bowling options with given conditions. frieds actually i am loosing interest in cricket just because of selections. when you find the best team is not playing and you have to struggle against other teams you find it difficult to just sit and see.

Dear Jarnail,

I agree that when fit and in form, both Irfan and Nehra should be automatic choices. Both have a beautiful ball, leaving the left hander. But their non-selection is because other bowlers like Zaheer, Sreesanth, Munaf (when he is fit), R P Singh have been bowling better whenever they have got chances. With the possible exception of Ranadeep Bose, I agree with the selection and think this is the best that the selectors could have done.

You are forgetting my friend that, this team is composed of world beaters, the best batting, balanced bowling etc. If now you have to advice them to come to the ground `fully warmed up` and ask them to learn to set field for lefties, I think there is something amiss.

If this popatwadi attack wins even half a match I will be shocked out of my senses. First let us get real about the actual merits of this team before going ga ga over the alleged final tour for out batting `greats`.

Yeah! Unfortunately, we have been doing this mistake for ages. Zaheer khan and sreesanth and everybody else start off their bowling with a loosener. I've never seen McGrath start with a "loosener". This is where the coach and other staff come in. Why these people can't come on the ground immediately after the toss when we came to know that we are to field is beyond me?
