Kapil is all time best Indian Cricketer.Far ahead of Sachin,Ganguly,Dravid,Kumble,Gavasker. We are proud of Kapil and also Amarnath to give us World Cup along with other 12 heros.Kapil is also considered among the 3 top all rounder of cricket with Botham and Imran.
We have two Indians on top of the list, i guess our attitude should be to be happy and hope it only gets better. Instead, we are comparing between the two, try and pick sides, sling mud on the other etc. Honestly its not required, both are a legend in their own right and why should we always compare everything every where. I dont think the aussies sit and compare Lillee and McGrath or Jeff Thomson and Brett Lee. Sometimes life is better without comparisons
new adage need to be coined english language.. dravid,tendulkar,ganguly,kumble there are so many recordmakers in indian team and still performance is deteriorating. just like too many cooks spoils soup .. too many records brings no win..
I had taken the subject "Kumble is much greater than kapildev, he is 3rd great bowler in world" to top again as i wanted to make some points here.
kapil scored 175 no doubt. You are comparing Kapil's batting with kumble's bowling. Kumble did scored 88 runs in Eden gardens along with Azaruddin which is his highest test score, do not forget this. And coming to bowling comparison between these two greats, Kapil has taken max of 8 wickets per innings where-in kumble has taken 10 wickets in an innings. Hence both have excelled in their responsibilites. If you go by number of matches won by india, by comaring these two greats contribution, kumble stands tall as India won many many test matches by his bowling performances and most of the best bowling performances of Kapil came in the loosing cause. Still both are great as remaining 10 players of their respective teams have not contributed to support these 2 guy's bowling. Also one more point is, these two have played against quality oppositions which had high quality batsmen of thier era. Hope everybody understands this and stop comparing these two greatest bowlers.

Well we need to consider a point that India won most matches in India when Kumble used to bowled and that too turning tracks...Many people forget to consider these thing in account as in india we have mostly spinners friendly tracks... I am not saying Kumble is not great .. Both are equally greats but Kapil had to play in odd conditions where as everything favour Kumble specifical in Sub contionent where India play most and Kumble made most of it. Also if you go by fact how many matches did India win abroad reflects Indian spinners were not too successful outside sub-continent as they perform in India. For kapil he used play in team of 3 spinners and only bowler to start with till mid 82-83 when quality medium pacer like Binny and Madan lal came in.
Considering all this , i don't believe Kumble can be ranked above Kapil...

We indians only compare players, so does our BCCI and I guess even the players talk about their achievments in the dressing room. India as a team suffers and we all know the results. I hope in the next 10 years we dont get a Tendulkar, nor a Kumble nor a Kapil. We may still loose, but we will then as a team

I Agree with you that kumble is by far better bowler than Kapil... but my dear friend dont quote wrong figure.. Kapil has taken 9 wickets in an innings... and for matter of fact kapil has taken 8 or more wicket 3 times where kumble have taken only twice.

No doubt, Kapil and Kumble are great players. But I don't think we can compare both. Being a captain Kapil had more responsibility than Kumble. In dedication levels one is better than other.

My friend when Kapil made 175 india were 17-5 & on top of it It was WC1983 which India won. You can't simply compare both. He scored 88 may be once in his life time. However Kapil has more than 5000 runs in Test Career & more than 3000 runs in ODI's. How much Kumble has? One thing is unarguable that Kumble will always be known as one of the best Indias players.

Kapil is a good player but has a bad attitute towards other players. Hw is an Ahole.
Kumble is India's greatest test match winner. Period. When he retires, you will see how India will struggle to win matches even on subcontinent pitches.

I think you don't have knowledge about cricket. In India Kumble is very good bowler but why he was not successfull outside the subcontinent like Murlitharan and Warn???Do you know why beacause Pitches are build for spinners you will see when Kumble will be retired from cricket another bowler will grab his position and if we will prepare the same turning piches then that bowler will also get wicket.Even if sachin, rahul and Saurav will be retired from cricket then obviously cricket will go on and new heros will immerge and India will win matches at home. But don't say all our legend have not any test series in Austrailia and South Africa even we have great players like Kumble, Sachin, rahul and Saurav.
One more thing I want to make clear We should not comapre a fast/medium bowler or allrounder with a legspinner. Kapil was an allrounder and Kumble is a spinner if you want to comapre Kapil then we can compare him with Imran, Botham and Hadlee. Similarly Kumble can be compared with Shane Warne and Murlithanran.
Don't forget also Kapil has bowled on dead pitches which are made for spinners.
One thing I want to make clear I am also a great fan of Kumble because I know how to gve respect our great ppl who have served our country in any way.I am not against those ppl who compares ppl who have done good for our country.

Have you ever seen any bowler standing near kumble , when there is a matter of guts, Not even shane warne or murli does so. He is the only bowler who can bowl 30 overs onn the trought . Have u ever seen anybody else.Even ur murli can't bowl 12 over continuosly. & leave shane warne.& 1 thing if every time the turning ball is taking wicket then why mushtaq ahmed & richie benaud are not among the list of top wicket takers.hope you will understand that cricisem is limited. for any body. But not a single cricketer rather than dravid has a caliber like kumble, everybody knows it.
