No Jaffer is needed as opener, at his moment two wicket keepers are big luxury to keep in the team and to keep Yuvraj on bench.

Yuvraj is bigest player in world so he alway should be in the team and Yuvraj Should be Capt of Indian team.
Drop Jaffer and make Ganguly or Tendulkar the Opener. If these two can open in one dayers then why not in tests.
If either of them cannot open then they should be dropped. It is obvious that neither is comfortable against the quickies (more so Ganguly). They want the best of both worlds (come in the middle order when the ball has been used up for over 40 overs; open in ODI's where it is easir to score opening because of the field restricitions and difficult to score in the middle order. Our stupid management allows them to dictate terms. Why is it cricketers shuch as Dravid, Laxman, Yuvraj, ... have to open in test matches to retain their place.

aabe tere ko yeah bhi pata nahi hai ki agarkar test team mein hai hi nahi
,... of yuvraj singh, when he said in the last paragraph of the article that "There is no better sight in world cricket than watching Yuvraj in full flow."
thats taking things a bit too far, with the likes of adam gilchrist, tendulkar, ponting, kevin peiterson etc still around.
RE:the author of the article went a bit to far with his praise...

You got it wrong buddy, it is not Yuvraj speaking, it is Harish Kotian. Probably, it is true that with the performance of Laxman and Jaffer, there is no better sight in Indian world cricket than watching the likes of Yuvraj.
Yuvraj and Sachin are in good nick so india should play both.
Laxman and Ganguly were the key batsman against south africa.Infact Ganguly was the one who turned around the tour for India after the crumbling wall couldnt save india in either onedays or test matches. As we know that was the last meaningfull tour that india had in recent past.
So we cant drop Ganguly and Laxman based on performence. I say make Dravid to open or Sack him as a captain...will actualy end alot of politics in the team.
Its sheer politics that Dravid is still the captain otherwise no sane person will let him be the captain after championstrophy and world cup disasters. On top of that we have a brilliant leader in Ganguly in the team.

Plz Learn to respect people man. Dravid played for india successfully for 11 long years. No one apart from tendulkar and gavaskar come close to him in entire indian cricket history.
How can u use such a cheap language against a legend like him. some people might think he is not a better captain but anyone with atleast 10% of cricketing knwledge will never doubt his potential as a test player. Please respect the legends.

why only people keep critisize only about indian team young and old, players like jayasuriya, hayden, attapattu, gilchrist, pollock, even lara played till late 30s. you need more experiance to play in english conditions, Yuvi is just getting used to it but still not ready for test level if you compare laxman.

i think u have very poor knoledge about cricket.Asking laxman to keep outside. laxman is the key bats man for india in test cricket.Age is not critiria here, experience is the key in england.it is not that much easy to plat cricket in england unlike home pitches.
Yuvraj did get chances to play Tests . He faired well but not great. He is good prospect. When given a chance he should have played so well and cemented his position, but unfortunatly could not do so. He should understand that Sachin, Ganguli, Dravid ,Laxman all have scored so heavily that they left huge impression. He needs to do something similar to get a permanent place, or else keep floating on hope as he is now.

When was the last time Ganguly scored "heavily" in test matches? Do you remember it? Ganguly averages 40 runs in test matches which is very ordinary. Yuvraj needs consistent chances to prove his worth. One test here and there will not help Yuvraj or any batsman to prove his worth. I would say give him extended chances...if he is not good enough then drop him.
RE:Yuvi

Ganguly did okay in SA...but he did not score "heavily". He scored just over 200 runs in 3 test matches. He just did better than othes but again failed to get big scores. We are talkinga about test matches and there is very little data to show that Ganguly is the most consistent batsmen since SA test series.
Regarding your other comment that Shastri, Vensarkar averaged in low 40s - stop comparing different eras. In those days, only 2-3 batsmen in the whole world averaged above 50 at any given time. Now every team has 2-3 batsmen who averages more than 50. Give this fact, I would say 40 is a poor average

even the great test batsmen like vengsarkar, shastri, manjerekar, amarnath, laxman, all have their test averages in low 40s...it's not very ordinary average in test cricket...with average in excess of 50 are considered great batsmen

Look against whom these so called gr8s played-Lillee,Marshal,Roberts,Garner,Holding,Imran to name a few. And Laxman played well mainly against Aussies. Tell me against whom did Ganguly played so well?

well in his debut matches, in his first south africa trip, in australia, in england when he was captain, against pakistan, the list goes on. in fact his average never dropped under 40 during his whole career, even though he was burdened with captaincy and the task of lifting a young indian side after their 3-0 defeat to australia under tenduklar's captaincy and betting/match fixing allegations.
RE:RE:Yuvi
by Cricket s on Jul 17, 2007 10:38 PM
poor explanation without data to backup. burden of captaincy? great leaders thrive under pressure situations and there are enough captains who have done well when captaining (Ponting, Lloyd, Richards, Gavaskar, Kapil, Dravid, Imran etc)
Yuvraj should not have been selected for the test team. There are no essential quality of a good test batsman. Figures may be misleading, in one-day matches he is just surviving any how and later he manages but he looks very tentative and any time he may lose wicket and put the team in bother. He got a half century in tour game won't guarantee you that he will perform better in test matches.Any how he is surviving in English conditions what I feel he should not have been in 15 member team also.Giving statement won't help unless you perform and make remedies for your loopholes in the techniques.
