Poor Selection
by Myviews on Jul 13, 2007 07:31 PM

Y is Gautam Ghambir not playing in this practice match. He played very well in last match. He should have been given the opportunity to play in this match too. If Jaffer fails in this match too...then what??? Well Vengsakar and Co. have obviously decided, even if Jaffer goes for duck. He will be our opener in the first test.....

Funny how we look at individuals
by samson lawrence on Jul 13, 2007 01:36 PM  | Hide replies

We seem so hell bent on kicking individuals. Do individuals ever win th eworld cup? It has never happened. Even the Mexico Football World cup was not won by Maradona alone you needed Buruchhaga to finish that goal. And teh cricket world cup has always been won by all round performance. Even when India won it was not individual brilliance. Individual brilliance makes a small difference but finally it is the team that wins it. Gilchrist was brilliant but the bowlers had to deliver. There is no doubt about the greatness of the skills of our players Sachin, Dravid and Ganguly. But the rest eight havent been good enough to make India the best in the world. Put the benchmark of victories above all, but does that make these people smaller? Never. It is plain jealousy speaking when we deride their achievements. The problems in Indian cricket is not these players but the others who cant support well enough. the early exit last world cup was totally the misjudgement of the mismanagement of our team prior to the world cup. Chappel was doing a lot of nonsense. Blogs here had warned of the lower levels India had dropped but nobody listened. As always we were going to test our fate. As always we were going to look for scapegoats in individuals. WE were going to be at our favourite hobby - celebrity bashing. Who asks you to adore and worship mortals? Its your own fault. Dont waste time. No bashing willl get you back what you didnt get - The world cup. We need better players, a better team.

Wait my friend you forgot to mention Dravid's achievements:-

1.Championstrophy at home....first round we went home.
2.World Cup 2007 ....its always good to get home early...first round we went home.
3.We have already farewelled Sehwag, Pathan,Bhajji,Kaif.
4.Pathan was the great find...and only Dravid knows how to loose a talent like that.
5.Recently Yuvraj lost his captiancy to Dhoni(I guess you think Dravid didnt have any say in that or he was never consulted on that ...think again.)

Dravid was not the only reason for Ganguly's success there were alot things...and i guess thats called getting best out of everyone.
Sachin Yuvraj Sehwag Pathan Bhajji Nehra Zaheer.

Indian bowlers were performing....now u get it why we get humiliated under Dravid.Ganguly got the best performance out of everyone.

thats y
Dravid-The captain....is the "HOLE"in the INDIAN WALL.
(You will see this poster alot when India tours australia)

I guess all of us are obsessed with India winning international matches.Does anyone watch domestic cricket I guess no one does. When Domestic cricket becomes very competetive then there will be better players better options. I think here we're running out of options. For example in football in Europe there are far lesser international matches but the domestic football itself is so big that people from all other nations want to play in the domestic league. If we created a league like that in our country like the Spanish football league or English premiere league then we will get the creme da la creme to play for our country.Beating other nations should not be the objective raising the level of our game should be the objective. The Aussies are constantly raising the level of their game and their domestic cricket is also good,if one player is not available theres always another to replace him.We don't need to have a genius captain we need to have 11 skilled players doing their job consistently.

varun shut u r mouth, ur use less guy u dont know anything of cricket, u r really shameless guy.
we are not arguing about his captainship, we are saying he is best batsman in test india ever produced & it was true.

Dravids achivements as batsman -
1)233 vs england in 2003 england Tour
2) 181 vs Australia
3)223 vs Australia
4) 270 vs Australia
5)144 vs west indies 2003 west indies tour

I agree that dravid is a bad captain but in current indian team no one deserved to be captian otherathan dravid, that i accept him as captain & we should support him.

Shut your ass moron... just look at the overall stats of Rahul the captain... There have been umpteen articles on several websites listing Rahul's achievements as captain... Which is as good as that Ganguly (though that Ganguly played uncountable no. of matches against the minnows), FYI, India had lost a ODI to the weakest Bangladeshi side under that Ganguly too... And Sachin as captain, we all know his achievement - lol... ha ha ha... Poor Varun, fit only to a gilli-danda commentator, ha ha ha...

2.1999 World cup- semi final against south africa.steve waugh's brilliant field placement in the last over took them over the line.
3.2003 & 2007- Strong team and strong captain.
4.2007 world cup-India was a strong team under a weak captain. If you think you put 11 brilliant players in a team and you will win..think again.Make Dravid the captain they will loose.
Before the world cup australia lost 2 matches against new zealand same series after scoring over 300...the difference ponting was not the captain.

5.Most of you have access to Youtube....check out Imran khan's interview. How important is the body language of a captain?

Bah!!
I havent seen a more stupid soul on earth!! As per the above idiot's arguement, a player only performs because of his captain and not because of his capability!! If thats the case, we all agree that Azhar was no good, then how come most of Sachin's gr8 innings were under Azhar!! A captain is only as good as his team!! And in all matches/tournaments that India have gone out in the first round, dravid hardly failed in batting. The team lost because the other batsman let the team down!!! Do you mean to say that gr8 players such as Sachin, Dravid, Yuvaraja failed to play because Dravid was the captain!! Was Dravid interupting them from playing their strokes? Its really pathetic to blame one person for a team's loss!! If you look at it Sachin was the most pathetic Indian captain in the whole of Indian Cricketing history, but no one has ever pointed out that it was hist fault!! We all know that during Sachin tenure, there wasnt a single player who contributed towards the team!!! And thats not sachin's fault but the fault of individual players!! Before pointing out at the captain, look at the team!!!

Kewl info man, even cricinfo wud be proud of this db u've collected. There's no doubt ganguly's reign was a case of "rite time at the rite place/phase", he didnt achieve anything, except than backing of his fav players just to have control over the team rather than any cosistency in selection policy or some such criketing crap. Figures dont lie n Dravid's contribution in the annals of Indian cricket history is great, come wotever these fools who doesn't know an iota of cricketing knowledge

Dude Varun,

2007 - Strong team under weak captain?? where the hell did u decipher that???? In the 2007, the only player to have contributed was Dravid and Sehwag and no one else?? what did the rest of the team score??? How can you claim the team to be strong!!
You have the most weird way of reasoning and almost always get ur analysis wrong!!!
If you analysis is true, then Bangladesh shud have faired very poorly in 2007 worldcup!! Their captain was useless, but it was the rest of the team that played well!!!
Dont shoot urself on ur foot by picking bits and pieces of info from jumbled places and misunderstanding them!!!

Hey, read your post, really a time waster. I think everyone knows that Dravid is one of the best batsman in world cricket today. but honestly tell me dont you think he is not good enough to lead. no matter he score runs in his captaincy. But from captain many other things are also required like selection of bowlers, to surprise the opposition, field placement, etc. what I feel he had acquired knowledge from cricketing books which was based on cricket of 80's and 90's. Today the time has changed thanks to Australian power. So i Think many of reader would agree with Dravid is good as batsman but very poor in Captaincy.

What do u want to say Dravid was solely responsible for India's success under Ganguly while the other players just sat there doing nothing, u grow up man, cricket is a team game no one player is responsible for the success or failure of a team, its that Dravid cannot motivate the team members to perform, and by continously changing roles of a player, he has ruined some good players who are confused about their roles in the team

When you are an International player, why shud anyone require motivation from external sources to play well?? Do you mean to say gr8 players like Sachin, Ganguly, Yuvaraj, Sehwag, Zaheer, Kumble etc require motivation from the captain to play well!! Thats totally absurd!! WHy shud such players require motivation from the anyoen else to play well??? We all know that most of these gr8 players collectively failed during the world cup, so we cant point a finger at Dravid for the failure!! You need to grow up!!
