Yes,ML Jaisihma was Lion.I distinctly remember when he was flown to Australia as an special aid to the injury prone Indian team.He landed in Australia and without rest he started batting. He played marathon innings. The Times Of India wrote under his batting picture LION HEARTED JAISIHMA.He was gentleman, games strategist, without enemy inside or outside the team, egoless and played cricket in its right spirit. Thanks for remembering him after all these years.

The curiosity of knowing jaisimha began when I heard sunny gavaskar confess that he is a huge fan of M L Jaisimha and that was it. No doubt that Jai remains on of the most elegant, highly intellect, charismatic and loved cricketer ever in the cricketing world.

Good article. Taken us back to our young age. We did enjoy the cricket played by the greats like Jayashima, Pataudi & the like. They were true spotrsmen. Compared to them the present crickters are nothing. These guys are interested in making money. IThey are not playing the game in true spirit.

ML Jaisimha -- has an unusual record
by on Jul 07, 2007 07:43 PM

Excellent article on one of my favourite cricketers. In a Ranji final he bamboozled the Bombay team with his shrewd captaincy and improbably won the match for Hyderabad.

He holds the unusual record for being on the the battibg crease for all 5 days of a test match !

M.L.Jaisimha, the astute captain
by HariOm Chawla on Jul 07, 2007 06:37 PM

I remember that M.L.Jaisimha lead Hyderabad astutely for many years. M.K.Pataudi, who was India's Captain, used to play happily under his captainship. Unluckily, he was not given a chance to lead the national side.

JAISIMHA

Reading the article on Jaisimha brought back memories of cricket matches being listened over radios before advent of transistors or being watched on TV as at present and the drawl of Vizzy over howlings in the Braboune Stadium 'Here is the Lion, you know - Jai Simha'. This is how spirit of cricket evolved over the years. Long live Simha.

never seen too much of Jai but read a bit. must have been good, but there are loads of such good players.
What i didnt like about the article is yoru statement about azhar, ' like azhar jai was from Hyd but unlike nore inteliggent' and instead of azhar would be better if it was reverse and Jai would be captain.
jai didnt make it his bad luck, but you cant take credit away from azhar, he was and is a great player and sportsman. and a good captain, probably the first one to push the youngsters in a politically currupt selection committee.
there are loads who were in the unfortunate scandals of matchfixing from current players in the team who still are called 'greats' .

There is no need to nitpick. It is a style of writing; the article is blemishless:-)

Historic fault line
by pavan on Jul 07, 2007 03:47 PM

The story reads very much similar to that of V.V.S.Laxman.So this is a kind of historic fault line that is eclipsing Hyderabad cricketers forever.Who is the culprit, then? One more thing you should have added VVS laxman's name also to the list of artists. Why only Azharuddin. It seems Mr.Pandya you are also a bit biased.
