I dont understand why ganguly needs to be rested ? He has just played 2 ODI after such a long gap..he needs good practice to get into world cup as a senior..resting the others is similar to keep them in team as they are useless..

Yuvraj cannot be dropped... he needs as much match practice he can get before the world cup. Pathan is useless I dont know why they even got him into the squad.

Khan..
by shah khan on Jan 30, 2007 11:28 AM  | Hide replies

Should be a good contest. India's pitches are similar to west-indies so it will be a good practice for the team. But I think they should prepare fast pitches so Indian batsman can get used to playing fast bowler. They will have to face aussies, pakistani and nz quicks.

Not Possible
by Nischal Maniar on Jan 30, 2007 01:45 AM  | Hide replies

Winning world cup is out of question.... To win world cup team needs ruthlessness, passion to humiliate the opposition, which India doesnt have and will never have. Aussies do it well because they have quality young players who come out of a excellent system that grooms them into class players. India doesnt have any sort of infrastructure or neither is willing to experiment any such thing that can produce new quality young players. All BCCI cares is of money over TV rights and all that crap... They are the richest board..they should for once stop thinking about the money and utilize the money in building a better infrastructure for emerging players and train them as hard as possible so that they are well prepared at the international level....instead...one guy scores a century in ranjii trophy....OK...bring him into the team.

India are favourites to win the World cup, since the slow nature of the WI pitches with suit Indian slow bowlers more than the Aussies pacers. Forget about all the grooming stuff in Australia. They are groomed on fast pitches not on slow pitches.
Greg chappell is only experimenting these days with the team, then how can you say that India is not experimenting?

Dude..i am not talking about experimenting with the team. I am talking about experimenting with the infrastructure of Domestic cricket. For example, introduce Twenty20 tournament, or bring in international players in domestic games to increase the competition level. And remember Australia came to india and defeated us although they are considered bad players of spin.

Abinash, u dont have to experiment till the start of the world cup... they shud have put out a final set of 15 top players that will play the WC and persisted with them for some time to make them work together as a team... I am afraid that was not done, so chances are very dim for India... if it does happen, it will be due to extraordinary performances of individuals... not the team

the real target...
by Thamotharan Dharmalingam on Jan 29, 2007 05:35 PM  | Hide replies

We won or loss against wi, sl, sa and any other team execpt australia. It's not winning. But we must first consider the final target. i.e. in 2007 world cup, if we perform well in leaques. but don't forget, we must meat australia at one level (if it is super 8, semi or final).

So we need to find a team to beat australia. and our target is only aus. but none of our selection commitee or players worried about this. This is the real fact.

We must beat australia at one level to win any of the ICC tournaments like world cup.

Not really. The reason why we seem to be losing against the Aussies is because there are people like you in the team who give them too much respect. The key to beating the Aussies is to treat them like any other side & attack their weaknesses.

My point is that no matter who we face, we should sledge them, hit their ribs & toes, hold our catches, trigger top order collapses, take their bowlers on & keep them down when they're down.

I know this is easier said than done, but if we don't do it for a 100 overs every game, we might as well stay home.

No one can be worried for this man..Becoz they all know its something which can never happen overnight..
India can beat australia provided they go out of form..we cant even smell victory against aussies with their form now..hopw u see the scores of VB series against ENG and NZ..
Forget it..once our men in blue sees yellow kangaroos in the ground they will forget how to hold the bat and ball..before the match dravid will be readily prepared with post match interview to media about the loss ..aussies is a team dude..if one fails the next will take over..here thats nt the case..

Is it about winning, or wondering?
by M. Shankar on Jan 29, 2007 05:32 PM

Two to one, like any other times? But I am not sure, going by the round-robin approach, resting some players, fielding some new players ... if we are focussing on winning the series, or wondering what the team-mix should be for the world cup. If we are attempting at a team-balance even at this late stage, well then, we should be whining if we lose the series to W.I. or Sri Lanka. Let us decide on the approach, and concentrate on that. Now that, for example, Robin Uthappa played a cracking innings will he be in. Now that, Kumble got only one wicket, will he be dropped from WC team. Now that Gambhir went for a blob, will he be written off? Will Karthik make it? Will Powar go to WI? Where are your 15 players, or 16 for WC, have they been chosen? Then, get going with them for all the remaining matches, and give them intensive coaching. Play them here for the upcoming full series unchanged, and see if a team emerges. No point guessing the combination even now from a huge group of 30 probables. Probables were for last year, now who ever comes must be certain, and already working! With deadly or dud pitches no reflection at all of the pitches our cricketers will face in W.I., with the fear of a loss lurking in their minds, with the performance being 'closely watched' now, do we believe what we may see may be the real potential? I doubt. All that matters for the players now is the knowledge that they are in, and that they need to work hard to get into the final eleven.

Dear vinod,
The basic problem is australia,SA and Sri lanka are not the same old teams which they had for 2003 WC but they are even more stronger..No words to describe australia.A for Awesome thats it ! Last time the same team performed well but do u accept that they started they world cup so badly and they realised the importance of the game only when violence started taking place in india seeing their performance ?
Internal motivation and spirit is lacking in these players. No human can shine when this is missing..External motivation can contribute but cannot lead vinod..
