Ranji Final
by Sujay Kanjilal on Jan 29, 2007 08:37 PM

Its good to see these days Ranji mathes gets so extensive coverage at same time players who are performing also gets good amount of coverage. I would request BCCI to take care of these new blood rather than selecting players considering other facts. On paper Mumbai team is strong but looking forward to see good compitition from bengal team.

Moderators should act quickly to the abusive msgs because that will affect our national integrity.. cricket is only a game try to enjoy with true sportman spirit.. not to divide like south indian and north indian.. we all are Indians.......

Sourav Vs Sachin final
by Dennis Christie on Jan 29, 2007 01:42 PM

Good to see the the best 2 teams make the final. As Ganguly has confirmed today that he will play in the final, a classic encounter is on the cards. Hopefully Sachin will also play.

A cracker of a Ranji final awaits
by on Jan 29, 2007 11:57 AM

After a long time, two evenly balanced teams square off for the Ranji trophy. Both sides are expected to be strengthened by their international stars - Jaffer, Tendulkar, Agarkar and Zaheer for Mumbai and Dada for Bengal. Mumbai looks better on paper for batting when Amol Mazumder and Rohit Sharma being part of the line-up. Bengal has Bose and Sarkar creating havoc on any wicket and will be bolstered by Shib Shanker Paul's inclusion. Bengal is the ONLY unbeaten team this Ranji season and their confidence would be definitely on a high with Mumabi having faced a follow-on the last time they met. Most probably the match would be decided during an inspired session by either of the sides. I'll bet my money on the Bengal tigers on this one!

Some strange facts.. need explanation..
by Debashish Basu on Jan 29, 2007 09:56 AM  | Hide replies

1. After Robin Uthappa, Manoj Tiwary is the 2nd highest rungetter in Ranji primarily because he(Manoj) has played less no. of innings than Robin. Manoj has a much much better average.
2. RR Bose is the highest wicket taker in Ranji this time(48 wickets) far ahead than Joginder (39 wickets) with a better strike rate and lower runs per average.
What makes these facts strange is both have not been included in the 30 probables for WC but Joginder and Robin have got berth in the list. Can anyone explain ??

Consistency and performing well in "big" matches is the key to getting in the Indian XI. The top perfomers in Ranji should be shortlisted for Irani trophy (i.e.,if they are not playing for the champions) and in India A tours abroad. Let performance on the field and statistics against quality opposition and on sporting pitches have their final say. I believe those who performed best (e.g. Bose with highest no of wickets and Tiwari with highest averagae) shouldn't lose heart. Their selection should be around the corner. Also remeber the WC probables are not for the test side. I presume the test selection committee would take a note of their performance.
