India vs WI 1st ODI
by Udai Agarwal on Jan 23, 2007 11:38 AM

Well played all the batsmen! Welcome back Dada! You are the run machine at the top order! But what a mess in Indian bowling! After making 338 they only won it by 15 runs. Whats up with the fielding? India won by luck for me because WI was only 3 good shots away from victory. India has to improve bowling and fielding if they have to win the next 3 matches!!!

Cricket is stupid and funny
by Joyjit Roy on Jan 23, 2007 04:00 AM

Dear Prem Panick'er? Hoiw is this joker Ganguly still getting runs?. I had a feeling (from your south Africa Match reports )that this joker who didnot know how to Duck Properly despite scoring Highest runs for India in Jokerlike substandard wickets is again playing dot balls in 'Standard' Indian wickets. Cricket is a stange game which produces Jokers like ganguly and highly ethical reporters like you making a comfortable and ethical living for you with your dose of subtle undertones for black comedy!

Should Ganguly open in WC2007?
by mike ramon on Jan 23, 2007 03:51 AM  | Hide replies

The win over WI in the first ODI is credit worthy but let us not get carried away. This was an out and out batting wicket. Cricket is one game where you need qualitative analysis more than quantitative. The WI bowling was mediocre in this game. Besides they don't really have a genuine fast bowler like Brett Lee, Shoaib et. Facing SA, Australia, Pakistan, NZ and even WI attacks on fast pitches like Kingston, Bridgetown etc is a whole different proposition. Ganguly has scored 98 and I admire his guts and determination. But in all honesty, he shouldn't open the innings. He should come in at No.5 or 6. Laxman should be in the team. I would go with the following 15 for WC.

Gambhir
Laxman
Dravid
Kaarthick
Tendulkar
Ganguly
Dhoni
Kumble
Zaheer
Sreesanth
Muna f

Reserves:
harbhajan
pathan (his batting is underrated)
yuvraj
raina

Laxman is a genuinely good batsman. He is not as quick in the field as some of the youngsters but let us not forget he is usually in the slips. Munaf is a impressive young bowler. His accuracy is good. He needs to improve his fielding though.

Didnt Ganguly need the time out?
by arun nair on Jan 22, 2007 09:43 PM  | Hide replies

I've read a few messages that suggest that Ganguly's newly regained form was a slap in the face of those who wanted him dropped, which I think is a cynical way of looking at things. By the admission of Ganguly himself, and most other experts, he needed that time off to get his game in order by playing domestic cricket. Just like Zaheer Khan. Or Dravid, when he was dropped from ODIs around 1998. Ganguly and Zaheer have shown what they are made of and now Sehwag has to do the same. Ganguly could not return to the team when it was doing well (obviously... he also admitted the same). Sehwag needs to regain his form and hope that Gambhir doesnt cement his spot until the world cup...

Dear Arun, Just remember with what Vengeance Ganguly was dropped by the then selctor head. There is no place for Ganguly he said.
There was really a conspiracy to end his career and remove him from captaincy.
It is not true that Ganguly was dropped to allow him to regain his form.
Ganguly did it and full crdit toes to him.
If that Jumping-Tennis-Ball-Behind-the-Wicket still remained the head selector there would not have been any place for Ganguly even now.

The Real Story
by shah khan on Jan 22, 2007 04:32 PM  | Hide replies

It's too early to campare Dhoni to gilchrist. dravid, tendulker, ganguly looks good on paper but have they won india anything or been consistent.

Dravid is a good player, infact he's the best batsman in the indian team right now.He can play in any surface unlike tendulker.

sri-lanka have just finished playing in NZ and they did really well, unlike the indian team. when they toured here they lost both the test and oneday series. noone performed except sehwag and dravid. tendulker is overated anyway.

Also aditya maheshwari, i don't live in India, haven't been to the country in five years.

Hey have you gone off your head. You are comparing Dravid with Tendulkar who Don Bradman thought the best batsman in the world. Tendulkar already proved he is the best in any surface. Dravid is a good batsman but he does not have the touch like Tendulkar. Neither does he have the talent like Tendulkar

ya ur very true dravid cannot be compared to tendulkar and according to me brain lara is one the best batsmen off all time...and even tendulkar knows it....and coming to ganguly...its because of dirty politics played by dravid and chappel and even some indian team mates...u never supported ganguly in those days but hat off to harbhajan singh for his kind support and words which could have done lots of good to ganguly and u can see it now...ganguly made a really great comeback and hopefully he makes one man show at the world cup and win it for india and hope he does it because he in such dangerous form that no indian player and niether tendulkar can be compared to the form which ganguly is in.........

me and all indian r on ur side ganguly....
pray and hope god will help u....
win the world cup for us...
cheers......

FAIRY TALE: ''The kid who wanted to TEST the PRINCE. ''
by sand chakravorty on Jan 22, 2007 04:21 PM

PRINCE G------. lived and played C. long time back. The PRINCE was agile, shrwed and knew the game very well and also played it well.
There lived a kid M---. M--- had also played the game but was a kid in contrast to G------.
The kid M--- did not like G------ and was jealous. He was "The Kid" that the kingdom(INDIA) never wanted and yet because of some favours to the king, the king wanted that the game be administered by the kid.
The kid M--- was more than happy and the first thing he did was to see that G------ the prince would never play again. "The kid" created a new team and conspired with the "TEACHER"(C------). Together the TEACHER and THE KID conducted experiments and most of the time were baffeled at the outcome of their own experiments.
One day good counsel prevailed, and The kid was ousted. The PRINCE was back and since then he has never looked behind. He was playing even better than what he used to. The kid and the TEACHER did not know what to do but to ACKNOWLEDGE the success of the PRINCE.
One day the PRINCE met the KID and thanked him for making the PRINCE realize that he needed to work harder. The PRINCE had an advice for the KID. " THE NEXT TIME YOU TEST A PRINCE, PREPARE QUESTIONS THAT ARE WORTHY OF BEING ANSWERED BY A PRINCE AND ONLY A PRINCE."
