appointment of sachin as deputy
by ramamurthy sridhar on Jan 19, 2007 12:50 PM  | Hide replies

There is nothing wrong in appointing sachin as deputy. Cricket shoud be treated as cricket not like politics. There is no room for any ego clash. Sachin himself has agreed for the post and I do not understand why the former indian cricketer feel ashamed. What we need is we want all the 11 players to [perform whether you are captain or in the team. We only need resultoriented players for cricket.

Sachin as Vice Captain: Is that right?
by M. Shankar on Jan 19, 2007 11:49 AM  | Hide replies

We all adore Sachin Tendulkar, respect him for all his achievements, salute him for all the pride he brought for India, admire him as a fine person. But the fact is Sachin Tendulkar now really labours for runs against World Class bowling! He is not that authentic any more, nor that self-assured, nor that awesome, and there are more disappointments than one can expect from his bat (we are not talking his bowling here). He has a fine reputation and excellent past records, but right now, most would agree that strictly on performance as a batsman, he may or may not play in a regular eleven, unless we give more weightage to his contributions in the dressing room, or off the field, with his suggestions etc. I don't think he should be preferred over other good contenders as a Vice Captain. Even earlier when Sachin was a more solid batsman, he had declined Captaincy, why thrust the deputy job on him now. Something wrankles ....

Justice in Indian Cricket
by partha mukherjee on Jan 19, 2007 06:53 AM

It is true that Sachin is nothing but the shadow of his past though it is needless to say that he is completely unable to handle the situation (except two games at Sharjah) when India is under pressure.... Moreover since last six years he is playing void.... If Sourav could be dropped from captain to no one(even after scoring centuries) by Mr More's decision (I don't know what his capability as cricketer was) and if that was termed "Justice"... then why not Sachin is not coming under their Justified decision or else whether the "Justice" had different meanings for different players

why do we justify?
by Mohan Kalyanasundaram on Jan 18, 2007 07:58 AM  | Hide replies

Where do we need justification? Only when something is obviously wrong and we support it. Did we justify the presence of Rahul Dravid? He didn't do well in the last series. We all know that Rahul will get back to his form. In Sachin's case, he is not in any form and he was never in any form when India needed him to play.

Instead the only justification I see here is all these belong to the KAR family. VengsarKAR, TendulKAR, both MumbaiKAR having the blessing of GavasKAR and the top man Sharad Pawar. This looks like a fair justification in my opinion!!

To tell the truth, India had the best batsmen like Gavaskar, Mohinder Amarnath, G.R Viswanath and Vengsarkar himself.

If a senior was to be made the VC, Ganguly could have been made the VC instead of Tendulkar. Ganguly has won matches for India in the past.

It is shame to India cricket, instead of revamping the team by handing over responsibility to youngsters and building a rock solid team, we time and again support indifferent, irresponsible, zero contributing players like Tendulkar.

Keep it up Vengsarkar!! You proved you are no different than any other high official who cares for personal preference over what is good for Indian cricket.

Dear Mohan ji, what you said is not at all correct. While Gavaskar did have a strong influence on Indian cricket for a long time, Vengsarkar had always had pathetic terms with Sunny. In fact, he was dropped way back in the Pakistan series even after he scored a century just because he did not play as Sunny told him to. Vengsarkar and Gavaskar have had close to 6 years of career together wherein they were not even in talking terms. So while Tendulkar definitely received Gavaskar's blessing (i am not commenting whether he is capable or not) leave Dilip out of that. The colonel has had a struggling career inspite of performing well, mostly because he didnt get along well with the 'Don' of Indian cricket, Sunny at that time.

I do agree with you Vengsarkar was one of the victims of Gavaskar. That does not justify Vengsarkar to include Sachin in the team and give him the VC post. Did Sachin make any sensible contribution with the bat today? Nope on a wicket that was not helping the bowlers.

Beyond doubt there is nobody to match Sunil Gavaskar and to some extent Vengsarkar. In fact Gavaskar is a better batsman than Tendulkar. Rahul Dravid is a far superior batsman than Tendulkar. Also, remember how many youngsters were deprived of their chances because of these KARs. There is no dearth for talent in Indian cricket. It is these jokers like Tendulkar who never contribute when India needs them are blocking the better talented players of India. Tendulkar scored on pitches and situations where Bishen Singh Bedi and V.V Chandrasekhar would have scored about 40 runs. That is not a big deal at all. Has he scored anytime like Sunil Gavaskar facing the brunt of West Indies attack not even wearing a helmet? Has he scored anytime like Gundappa Viswanath who blasted pace bowlers like Andy Roberts, Holding, and Holder time and again to win a series.

Let us face the reality. Tendulkar is useless and he is in the team because of KAR family. Bottomline he is making money at the cost of Indian emotion, and at the cost of shaping up genuine talented Indian youngsters.

Very poor comment on the great player also reflects the poor knowledge on cricket. Why are u referring about Mumbai. U mean to say the selection should be based on the region. If u really have some patience go and check any record book. Who is the player who scored maximum runs on the foreign soil? What is his average against the best team in the world? Its always good to have players who save the team in crunch situation but its more important to have who can avoid entering that zone(Crunch Situation.) . In real life which one U like Prevention or Cure? If u take any expert comment everyone will put their money on the player who score in First innings are True Tendulkar did not score against Holding and Co. But it is not his fault. But he played & Scored against McGrath , Ambrose, Donald who are also great bowlers and also all time great spinners Warne and Murali . This comment even does not deserve a response but thought if u might be logical enough can reset your thoughts. If u cannot respect player its fine pl. do not degrade them with such comments.
Last thing, to say one person good u need not say other people are bad. Rahul is also a great batsmen who is delivering consistently. But Sachin is ideal for all the youngsters.

Thanks my dear friend for responding to a comment that doesn't merit any response! Cure in my opinion is lot better than a mishandled prevention killing the patient and a few more to fall sick with an irrecoverable new disease!!

Why Mumbai? Again my dear friend, I am from Mumbai and hate to see anyone from Mumbai staying corrupt or blocking a new talent.

Finally when Gavaskar, Vengsarkar, Viswanath, Mohinder were playing there was not this much money at stake and they were true to the core playing for the success of India. Also, if any of the above players were to play in care free situations like Tendulkar, trust me friend, they would have scored atleast twice as what Tendulkar had scored in his very looooonnnnnggggggg career.

Sachin can never be a mentor to juniors nor a value add to the team or a role model to any cricketer. He can be a role model to people who want to get rich, richer, richest at any cost!!

I would like to respond one more time as this time your comments looks more logical and shows the direction your thinking. I%u2019m sorry if I hurt you with my old comment, you are right in your way, but my intention was just to convey not to degrade players.

I am not from Mumbai but I love Sachin . If your into management then it is a very dangerous statement to make "You want only people who work in critical situations" .
Its very important to see that a task will never get into critical situation. Heroics looks good to see but is not or should not encouraged day to day . I might be wrong but this is the way every manager looks at a task.

My father started working for Rs 50(I am serious) and I am working for 50,000. Does that mean that I father worked sincerely and I am just working for money? If a player requests for 20000 instead of 200000 per match he is better committed? To me Money will not play any role in commitment. If I have a special talent and I work hard I will or should get benefited .
Its demand vs. supply. That is the reason why Ganguly / Sachin had more value when they were playing great. Now the form is not good for some time so automatically the brand value came down .

If you want to argue that Gavaskar and Vengsarkar are more committed than Tendulkar I do not want to get into that debate as every one know who created the Mumbai lobby and what are the losses that Indian team need to pay for that. To be more precise 1987 world cup we lost only due to this reason. So I never rate them high or not even close to Sachin, though I love Gavaskar as a player.
Ajay Jadeja in one of his interviews told that after Sachin took over the captaincy the rule is imposed that a senior and a junior player should stay together in a room or share a room. He also said that it was a horrible period for juniors to in the initial period before Sachin captaincy.
Get more details into the history, you might find answers for your questions and know why everyone worships Sachin.

Raj, My dad was making the same kind of money may be 500 rupees close to retirement. Let us do little math here.
Those days even TV was a luxury. How many Chaiwalas or PavBhajiwalas would have sacrificed their one day meagre earning to watch the Indian team play and lose. Now look at the ratio, my dear friend. All the daily wagers foregoing their daily wages and bread earnings watch Mr. Tendulkar play and fail. They not only lost their daily wages but also the psychological impact this created has detrimental effect to their health. If we make an educated guess there may about 20 million daily wagers going through this everytime Sachin plays and fails. And Sachin for ruining these daily wagers, would have made nothing less than rupees 20 laksh for playing and failing for that SINGLE day. Does he distribute that money to the cause of these people who lost their daily wages because of his useless performance?

Think about it dear friend. Sachin makes poor people poorer, poorest when he is going from rich to richer to richest. This is time Indian people dump cricket and start focusing on developing the nation that can pay them back.

Hope this helps!

Ithink you have forgotten,
1.Dravid is recognised by the world as WALL.
2.Sardesai has more double centuries than your KARS.
3.Ganguly is only other batsman from india to score 10000 after Tendulkar.
4.Gavaskar himself feels Vishwanath is one of the finest batsman in the world. In those days when Gav was known as textbook of cricket Vishy was known for his style, wrist strokes and square cuts which made him idol for youngsters.
4. On the footsteps of vishy, Azaruddin and Laxman arrived on the scene. YOU KNOW THEIR RECORDS.
5.Mohinder Amarnath is the gutsiest player from India. Look into his records.
6.Sehwag is the only tripple centurion from India.
7.Kapil dev as batsman-look into that also.
8.Kirmani as batsman has rescued India so many times.
9. Ravi Shastri and Jadeja have won a number of ODIS for india.
Do you want more examples????

woh kehte hain naa .. "andho mein kana raja" ..

lets see his performance in these 8 matches ..
ppl ate shouting abt his performance in SA .. well hasn;t done anything special .. his average is just 36 in test matches ... which is just an ordinary performance ...
