Sachin & Indian Team
by shareen gongulur on Jan 29, 2007 12:47 PM

"And as far as Tendulkar goes, I think it is time the team management do tell him that he should not see himself as the savior of the team but one amongst 11. This is not the first time he batted so badly in the second innings.

With my short memory I can think of the innings against Pakistan (when Saurav Ganguly was the captain) when our famed batting line up has fallen like 10 pins, and against England in the last Test and NOW. I tear my head to understand why these guys have to play like that. Atleast the pitch is not so bad (as Dinesh Karthik and the SA batsmen have proved) to bat."

What everyone is saying is Sachin and team india didnt play aggressively. But then there are no clearcut rules has to when u should play aggressively and when to play defensively. Most of the times i feel these batsman go in thinking let me get my eye in and i will then open up and play my strokes. If the wicket is outright"bad" as was the case with Australia in Mumbai (the last test) where Sachin said there was no way they could protect their wicket by defending and he went all out aggressive. There is no clear cut answer to it. Instead of Rahul getting influenced by Sachin. Actually he should have shown the way to sachin. becos he was the well settled batsman. To lay all the blame on Sachin, i feel, is little to far fetched

sachin we still need him
by on Jan 27, 2007 12:38 PM

there has been lot of talk abt sachins performance.but i still cant see why he should be left out or he must retire,
1.he may not have played a match winning role but has always played a big supportive role with his batting or bowling.
2.we need 5 good batsmen and if u can find five better batsmen than Mr.sachin tendulkar plz talk abt his removal or else just shut up.....
we indians shout at everything...but be practical...if u say sachin is not performing and he should not be in the team... what abt sania mirza / anju bobby george they are not winning can they be replaced???? no is the immediate answer bcoz they are the best we have and others are not half as good as them. similarly sachin is among the top 5 batsmen in the indian team on any given day.so plz stop all this talk abt droping him and start thinking practically.who shall replace sachin????r.uthappa, gambhir, raina or even sehwag or superstar dhoni is not even as good or half as consistent as sachin.so pray that sachin plays well as long as possible and wins matches for india

Indin Team show in South Africa
by ajit shejav on Jan 13, 2007 01:44 PM

Well well everyone was saying that team will put a good show in SA..but what happened..nothing..
I think the biggest drawback was Rahul Dravid's captiancy..it was terible. I think till now we had only BEST Captian ever and that was none Other than Saurav Ganguly..I think the team management have to think on various playes performance also and the first player they must fire is Virendra Shewag..

someone has already decided the team guys

We can suggest our ideas. We can prove the weakness of Sachin and Sehwag. None of that will work. If BCCI truly wanted India to win, they would have dumped both Sachin and Sehwag long back. I still cannot believe the way they dumped Uthappa after couple of matches. Uthappa didn't have enough to take care of BCCI folks; whereas Sachin and Sehwag made all these money because of we Indians and couldn't truly play for India when India needed, but could take care of BCCI. These two will continue to show up in future matches and be a BIG BIG flop and will make sure India will lose. Sunil Gavaskar will completely endorse the presence of Sachin Tendulkar in international arena for another 5 to 6 births of Sachin so that the next 6-10 generations of Indians emotions are exploited. Where is Warne quitting the game at his peak? and Sachin still continuing after the slumpp??

TEAM INDIA

LET SACHIN PLAY HIS OLD NATURAL GAME AND DO NOT PRESSURISE HIM WITH TOO MUCH OF EXPECTATIONS.HE IS AGGRESSIVE BY NATURE AND BY BAT,BUT DUE TO OTHER PLAYERS FAILURE HE HAS TO CHANGE HIS MINDSET AND HIS GAMEPLAN.LET HIM AND WHOLE TEAM ENJOY THE CRIKET WHILE PLAYING.THEY R NOT ENJOYING CRICKET LIKE AUSTRALIANS.THEY SHOULD KNOW THEIR CAPABILITIES AND SHOULD GIVE THEIR 100%.LETS HOPE FOR THE BEST.FOR MEDIA, LIKE EVERY CHANNEL CANNOT BE BEST AT EVERY POINT OR AT EVERY ARENA,THEY SHOULD ALSO NOT EXPECT FROM INDIA TO WIN EACH & EVERY GAME.LETS HOPE FOR THE BEST FOR INDIA TEAM .LET SACHIN ALLOW TO PLAY AGGRESSIVELY AS HE WOULD LIKE TO PLAY FOR 10 INNINGS AND U WILL SEE THE DIFFERENCE IN THE TEAM INDIA.WHOLE TEAM EXCEPT SACHIN SHOULD TRY TO KEEP THEMSELVES ON PITCH WHILE BATTING AS MUCH AS THEY CAN (INCLUDES TAILENDERS).FUTURE WILL DRAMATICALLY CHANGE.TEAM HAS ABILITIES TO WIN BUT THEY R NOT UTILISING THEMSELVES FULLY AND WITH FULL RESPONSIBILITY.IF U R PLAYING FOR INDIA, U R FULLY RESPONSIBLE AND U SHOULD GIVE MORE THAN 100%.THANKS

Umpiring in SA Tour
by Yeolekars Family on Jan 11, 2007 10:14 AM  | Hide replies

I am the one who believes that India has not done as badly as it is perceived (In Test matches). There is a great contribution from umpires in deciding the result of these matches. I know that at least 15 clear-cut decisions went against India in last 12 innings which is about 10% of total decisions. And after that the scoreline of 2-1 is not bad. Isn't it? And mind you almost all of decisions were at crucial junctures!!!

I will not support Sachin or Rahul (and for that matter even Sourav...214 runs in six innings isn't exceptional for the performer like him thogh very good in tough tour like this) for their bad performance. But if a player thinks that he is being targeted by particular umpire(s), then his actions become tentative. His footwork is obviously not confident and fluent as he tries to avoid ball hitting the pads. Cricket is a big mind game and a few small things can create havoc in mind and hence tentativeness in the approach. When I saw Rahul playing in third test, I felt that he is making conscious effort to play in a certain fashion (to avoid getting LBW...he got shocker of the decisions in both the innings of 2nd test) which has affected his natural ability of batting. Sachin got one 50-50 decision and one shocker of decision. He has been targeted by likes of Hair (shoulder before wicket), Benson (Caught behind again shoulder!!!!) and n number of decisions by the great(?) umpire Steve Bucknor.
I do agree that these players are professionals and have to put such things in stride and perform, but they are also human beings. The feeling of injustice can play on human mind for long time and it's also infectious. It can catch up with other team members and can affect their play indirectly and the whole team starts struggling. It was not surprising after sreesanth was given out (caught behind off the shoulder in 2 nd test), tail did not wag in third test. The message given by umpires to tail enders "If you stay on a pitch longer, you will also be treated in the same manner as that of top order batsmen!!!". As seen many times in the past one wicket opens the floodgates many a times and it has happened in this series more than once sadly after umpire's wrong decision.

To my dismay, neither media (Attn: Prem) nor BCCI is doing enough to highlight this. Players do need environment wherein they can perform freely. And if particular country or a player is being targeted (I do not believe that it happens inadvertently against one team consistently in a series!!!) then there should be something done to prevent that. BCCI do not have guts to act like Pakistan Board has done. Or they may have other reasons/interests for not taking up with ICC (Is Sharad Pawar listening????).

It's not the actual number of decisions which go against the team that matters but it's effect on the mind game that matters. And ICC and current umpires are playing that game with Indian subcontinent teams to the perfection. I wonder why (so many) decisions do not go against Australians or New Zealanders. Why only Pakistanis, Indians or Sri Lankan are always at receiving end. I think these are the greater questions to be answered along with the steps to be taken to improve the standard of cricket in these countries.

Who knows what would have been the result of the series if

Rahul was not given out LBW in both the innings of 2 nd Test.....
Dinesh Karthick was not given out caught off the pads in last test....
Prince was given out Leg before on at least two occasions during his century...
Boucher's nick was heard by umpire....he went on to hit a half century....
Kallis was given out caught behind off the first ball he faced in the last inning....
Sreesanth was not given out off the shoulder and last pair was able to spend another 20-25 minutes on crease....
Sachin was not given out in 2nd innings of last test....
Or Gibbs had not walked away in first test......(ironically SA collapsed after that and India went on to win the match...)

I do back up Sachin, Rahul, Sourav, Dinesh, and all the bowlers who were at the receiving end of poor umpiring and applaud their efforts in South Africa. Our players are gentlemen and they haven't uttered a single word against umpiring (though it might cost them their career...captaincy for Rahul...may be place in team for Sachin)

Sachin Tendulkar is a great player of his time. He doesn%u2019t have equals in his time. He is a man of his instincts. He knows very well when to say good be to his career. He will never hang around once he feels he is not capable to face the pressure of playing crcket. As a cricketer we can never ignore his contributions to Indian cricket. He is a gentleman cricketer so he always prefer to answer his critics with is own style %u2013his bat. So you can wait for his reply. you will get it sooner or later.

my dear friend let him play in W.C.2007.
and pls., let him retire from cricket. but he will score centuries against bermuda,irland,canada,hongkong,u.a.e., ...etc.,
if india has series agaist them we will include him. but not with test playing nations. if he score centuries aginst test playing nations- then india will certainly will loss that match.
so after the world cup, we have throw him, kumble and dravid from the indian team

with regards
a real indian fan
