No. I dont like to salute this dashing cricketer. Because of his recent interview to the kerala media that he was very happy and his aim was to get 25 wickets and ofcourse man of the series. but he did not regret or unhappy about the team india's poor performance as millions of cricket lovers in india are not happy that team india lost 4 oneday games and two tests. and actions in the ground is not got for this gentlemen game. good luck for indian team.

Is this an article saluting sreesanth or drum beat of mallu?
by perl57 on Jan 05, 2007 12:42 AM

Quite frankly before we speak of who has done what, we should think Indians did it. And no matter who did it who cares, it is Indians who did it not some malbari. Further to achieve the heights of Sreesanth, the writer did mention some names that does not even come closer to what Sreesanth did in his first challenger trophy leave alone Intl. cricket. Like Abey Kuruvilla, country's fastest bowler. Aah!!! Now about Sreesanth, quite probably I have not seen since 1983 who is more passionate about his bowling. He has got everything and the way he bounced out the best says it all. Now it should be turn of Oz. I wish to see him on WACA Perth pitch bowling in full steam along side Munaf Patel and Zaheer Khan. As for Irfan Pathan, he is taking a fast bowler run up and bowling left arm slow spin.

Nice one about Malayalees and although I beg to differ about this humility stuff, I have extremely high regard for Adoor Gopalakrishnan and Malayalees and Kerala in general. It is a place of pristine beauty, and culture with stuff such as Kathakali, Kalaripayattu and Ekka races, and ofcourse the women! May I add that the fabulous rock band "Thermal and a Quarter" from Bangalore that has featured on such things as the US National Public Radio (NPR) takes their name from Three Malayalees (Thermal) and one Quarter Malayalee (Quarter). And my friend, Sunil Nair who has directed a short film called "Grace" is another Malayalee. So, GO MALLU!!

Cheers and Peace

Setu

Sreekanth the Break-dance man......

I think the article is well written and brings t the fore how the Malayalees have been quitely contributing to the countrys pride (including strikes bandhs and lockouts) in every possible manner without claiming whatsoever-a humble, unassuming lot with almost the uncanny attitude of striking it rich -NO MATTER WHAT..................

No need to lament
by Vinay on Jan 04, 2007 02:07 PM  | Hide replies

There is no need to highlight the so-called "not getting his dues" lament. Those who work hard and show results, reach the top. If people heap praises on Srinath or Kapil Dev or Kumble, its because of their achievements and hard work, not because they were not from Kerala. If a Tinu Yohannan or Valson is not spoken of, they are probably not worth it. The attention that Sreesanth is getting is because of his talent, hard work and commitment, which was probably missing from other Keralites. Whats the big deal about being humble? No talent or achievements to speak of, there's nothing else to do but be humble. What achievements of Kerala should the world or India highlight- No industries, liberal labour policy, communism, increase in Islamic terrorist culture or entrepreneurship?

"No talent or achievements to speak of, there's nothing else to do but be humble..." ......Never heard anything goosier than this... :)) did u ever heard of an ambani, tata, sachin, or even bill gates crying what they have done.... they'll remain humble. humbleness is a character of achievers... not losers.
and about talent or achievements in kerala.. improve ur GK. perhaps you'll understand.

Humble Malayalee
by Raj on Jan 03, 2007 08:50 PM  | Hide replies

Mr. Tharoor is right most of the times. The Malayalees who have achieved glory in life are indeed humble. With hardly any exception all the big names mentioned are indeed down to earth. Malayalees have the best sense of humor among all the people I have seen.
But after living in Kerala for 12 years, what I have noticed is slightly contrary to Mr. Tharoor's findings. That is the average Malayalee on the streets is perhaps the most arrogant and mean character on this planet.
The way they make fun of people from other states, the way they strike work at the drop of a hat and the way they behave obnoxiously on the streets or in a traffic jam is unique to Malayalees.
But the same people, once out of Kerala are the most hard working, industrious and courteous of all. So I have come to believe that if a Malayalee has to improve, he has to live some part of his youth out side Kerala. And then you have a wonderful and most fabulous character. Most of these people mentioned in this article have spent considerable time out of Kerala. Sreesanth being the prime example.
I may be wrong in my observations. But before I am crucified, please take the opinions of many more neutral people.
Raj.

Being a malayalee myself..sometimes iam shocked at the way keralites are so quick to embrace anyone popular with even a very remote link to kerala as one of theirs..no matter if that person had come for a vacation in kerala and lived all of his/her life outside kerala.A malayalee will always want to shirk work in kerala and make sure everyone else suffers for their cause too.Sreesanth's war dance is not a malayalee emotional reaction, it is the reaction of a young man being taunted, jeered at and sledged by a big, tall south african dude and when sree blasted him it was post teen poetic revenge and an ego trip. This pattern is consistent with almost anyone. This has nothing to do with him being a mallu. The author says malayalees are not revered enough or are too docile.Hello? Dont we recognize Mohanlal as India's finest actor?Nedumudi venu,Shobana,Urvashi,Thilakan as great actors. Shiny,Usha,Anju as India's finest atheletes,Dr.Kurien as the man behind green revolution. Stop patronizing the malayalee.He/she has as much aggression and will to succeed as the next person.India's biggest export and maximum revenue generators are the malayalees in the Middle east.Let the kid enjoy himself.
