Ban asif and akthar for atleast 1 year
by kumar bhat on Feb 21, 2007 06:05 PM

It is well known that they have taken drugs and they should be punished. If warne can get a ban for 1 year for drug abuse, then why not asif and akthar??
Now both of them have gone to engalnd for drug masking...I am sure PCA officials are aware of it.. they want asif and akthar by hook or crook ...shame shame PCA...

More cricket

One Indo-Pak team played against Sri Lanka years ago.
Indo-Pak-Bangla team may be formed easily and played side by side the regular teams.
There can be matches with Zonal Teams and national sides and the combined IPB team.
Actually so many players are in the reckoning in cricket that some brilliant players are left out of the national side, but their appeal to the crowd or apetite for good game remains the same.
In the Indian national side players like, Laxman, Kaif ,Nehra, Pawar, Partiv Patel, and a host of promising rising talents from the Ranji winners, runners up, and other teams could not find any place for the obvious reason.
Same thing happens in other nieghbouring nations as well.
Out of so many only 11 can be picked up.
In India a tournament like challenger trophy or Ranji matches only these players can be accommodated.
Why not give them some good exposure with an IPB team, with parallel hosting of tournaments after the World Cup?
Such arrangements will turn out to be popular in the given condition of popularity of the sport in the sub continent.
Moreover so called national left outs and budding talents may also find some opportunitites to get match practice and remain in the contention for selection in the national side.
Besides it would encourage good neighbourly relations as well.

Hmmmm..... looks like World Cup fever is already catching up with the media. I think article must have rattled a lot nerves. Hope everyone is ok now....he he.

Some Pak cricketers have been so graceful over the years. I remeber their faces but forgot their names.
Aquib Javed is the one whom I can remember, beside the more illustrious persons like Imran, Akram, Asif Iqbal,Mustaq Ahmed, Sahid Afridi, etc.
I also consider Wasim Akram to be a gentleman par excellence.
Unless it is a match between India and Pakistan I always support Pakistan.
So much in common everywhere between us, I can not help supporting Pakistan.
Same feelings comes to my mind when Bangldesh or Sri Lanka also play international games.
The news of Pakistani cricketers in reported drug addiction is shocking.
Are there not many other thing that the cricketrs could have been addicted to other than drugs?
God knows.
Let India Pakistan be friends forever and leave as brothers togehter.

Although the message of Friendly Neighbourhood is good and should prevail for the better existence of both the nations, still supporting in the wrong deeds is not the way to go... If they are found positive they shud be banned. Its true for Indian cricketers as well.

What about weightlifters Edwin Raju (56 kg) and Tejinder Singh (85 kg) test positive in dope test in Commonwealth Games

India have withdrawn women%u2019s discus thrower Seema Antil from the Asian Games in Doha after she tested positive for a banned substance during an out-of-competition test, a sports ministry official said.

It is learnt that the 28 year-old Pratima, a double gold medallist at the Manchester Commonwealth Games in 2002, returned the positive test during a pre-Olympic anti-dope campaign which began on July 30.

In April, another Indian woman weightlifter, 24 year-old 2002 Commonwealth Games bronze medallist S Sunaina, tested positive for nandrolone during the Asian Championships at Almaty, Kazakhstan, in April. She was stripped of the two bronze medals she won in the 53kg category and is currently serving a two-year ban.

Last year, Shailaja Pujari, who won three gold medals in the 75kg category at the Commonwealth Games, was banned for two years by the Indian Weightlifting Federation after she tested positive at a domestic meeting.

Weightlifters Satheesha Rai and Krishnan Madasamy tested positive during the Manchester Commonwealth Games in 2002.

At the Busan Asian Games middle distance runner Sunita Rani, who won a gold medal in the 1500 metres and a bronze in the 5000m, was disqualified after a banned substance was allegedly detected in her urine sample. But she was later given a clean chit because of procedural lapses in the testing of her samples and her medals were returned.

India also had to pull out its team from the Junior Asian Weightlifting Championship in 2003 after 24 lifters were found guilty of doping in the junior nationals in Chennai.

Kunjarani Devi, who finished fourth in the women's 48kg event at Athens, had also tested positive in a senior Asian competition in South Korea in 2001 and was banned for six months and stripped of the bronze medal she won there. She was among 34 lifters, 23 of them juniors, who were caught for doping in three national meets which came soon after seven lifters tested positive during the 2002 National Games.

http://www.hindu.com/2005/08/14/stories/2005081404731700.htm

One of the most experienced Indian athletes, discus thrower Neelam Jaswant Singh, has tested positive.

http://in.news.yahoo.com/040819/43/2fksd.html

Athens, Aug 19 (IANS) What was supposed to be a glorious Olympic Games has turned out to be a nightmare as the first-ever individual silver medal for India was followed by a first-ever positive dope test for an Indian at the Olympic Games.

seefact,
Your post is irrelevant. We are talking about Pakistani cricketers and not Indian weightlifters!
What is your point? We all know that doping is an issue. The aim of this article was to prove that Shoaib and Asif have still not improved despite being given a second chance. Ranting about all athletes around the world who have cheated doesn't reduce the guilt of the Pakistani cricketers.

WHY ARE YOU TRYING TO MAKE THIS ANTI-INDIA (or anti-Pakistan)??? This is just a news report.

BTW: What you have quoted only shows that Indian news media is not one sided. They have reported illegal practices (drugs in sports) without any bias.

I think it does not matter who is involved and from which country that person belong, drugs are no no in sports.

I Agree with NP and Jayant. What is the purpose of your post and how is it relevant to the article. If it is just for information sake, u should have atleast added a disclaimer in your post. Any way, the good part is you are pretty well informed about these doping issues.

Though in the context ur post is irrelevant, am glad i cud get to read all of those together. Drugs is cheating, and cheating is never appreciated. Personally more than shoaib i like asif as a bowler. He is very natural, unlike shoaib. May be he is doing it for stamina sake or wat ever. Wish he had not. As for shoaib i dont care anyway he is near the fag end of his career. He just gave himself a pre-exit, or may be trying to.

hmmmm,

now i know why u posted the earlier doping issues abt indian athletes. UR feeling cheated. Sorry seefact. No matter what you say, everyone here agrees, Drugs in a strict NO NO in sports, and instead of defending the guilty, you should defend the sport.

Important thing is, there is no way for us readers to find out how much of this is truth. Hoping against hope, its not.
