Some Basic Tips Before the Cup
by Indra Sengupta on Feb 13, 2007 08:50 PM

The Indian think tank!
I do not know who they comprise of exactly!!
Apparently the experiments during the last one year has shaken the solid ediffice, built by Wright and Ganguly.
1. Removal of Ganguly from captaincy and side was a blunder particularly when the bad patch of the legend was showing signs of recovery.
2. A mediocre cricketer used to jump too much for making appeals disproportionate to the number of dismissals caused by him, removed Saurav.
3. A man passing the Secondary examination in third division becomes the examiner of a national scholar!
4. A bowler was made to open the innings and was advised to concentrate on batting instead of bowling.
5. An young and enthusiastic good player of club cricket level was carried along and nurtured with the hope that he would be a replacement for Ganguly.
6. Give this club cricketer one thousand chances and his average would not improve beyond 20.
7. Some good players were put under threat and coercion- perform or perish, thereby reducing their confidence level to the rock bottom.
8. By giving of and on chance to the old war horses and some new comers, nothing ultimately clicked.
9. A bunch of scattered individuals are placed in the hands of an uncertain leader who is thinking too many things at a time and lacking in conviction himself.
10. I do not know how many more blunders would be committed by the think tank before or during the world cup.
11. I can only suggest that Vengsarkar is the only person whom the team can look forward to for directions off the field.
12. On the field decisions should be collective and taken after consultation between the trio Sachin-Dravid-Ganguly.
13. Chappel should concentrate on advising the players on cricketing shots, running between the wickets, batting and bowling grips and so on.
14.Changing Rahul's captaincy is neither possible nor necessary at this stage but he should not be obstinate and he must consult Saurav and Sachin on the field all the time.
15. Anyone by any chance close to the dressing room or whatever may pass on the tips to the persons concerned, I have no access to any.
16. Let us hope for the best anyway.

If Yuvraj and Pathan don't pass the fitness test (if any)would these two be sent for the World Cup? Ramesh Powar and Manoj Tiwari are unlucky to lose out.

Raina Again

I still cannot believe that people are still talking about Raina when likes of tiwari and all the other consistent performers are there in India.
Raina is a good lad, there is no doubt but he needs some exposure in the domestic circuit before he is given a chance.
Also he is a pure batsman and a great fielder. Well there are many great bats man and Great fielders around, y not try a new face who can bowl too? Pujara was one who claims he can bowl leg spinners? y not try him?
He is a great bat too and a very good fielder.
Piush Chawla is also another prospect who comes into my mind immediately.
Also y not try Bose4 instead of RP?

you are right, but since both of them are new to international scene i suggested their alternatives. These two are known to break under pressure but the new ones coming will not have pressure because it will be their first match.
This does not mean that i will not support India, i will no matter who plays.
One more thing, Chawla is currently playing under 19 in Nz and india is successful with a series win.
Anyways All the best Team India.

shewag should open up with uthappa
by shrey ahluwalia on Feb 12, 2007 09:11 PM  | Hide replies

virender shewag shpuld up the innings with uthappa, as both the batsman are devastating within the first 1o overs and the following power plays. if one of them fall short of the expectation then sourav is there to handle the situation. i think dhoni is there to handle the pressure at the end of the game play fast inngs.

Mr Shrey,
U even want one of the openers who is doing well at least to leave his place and sit in to see that the replaced Sehwag gives a devastating start and he can handle the situation,

I dont think Sourav should be that big a hero, let him play in his own place

Guys around the 15 over mark the run rate was 7/over for India. But Ganguly and Sachin showed their typical attitudes of caring more about milestones by slowing down considerably when they came close to their 50s. That gave Sri Lanka a small chance to get back in the match and they capitalised on that and won the match.
Learn something from Australians - when on top demotivate the opposition by not allowing them any chance to settle down. India will never become a top one day team till selfish players like Sachin and Saurav are around. Remember the fuss created by sachin when Dravid decared the innings in Pakisthan when Sachin was on 194*. It was Sachin's duty to accelerate at that point so Dravid could declare and give ample time for bowlers to get a few early breakthroughs.

Yogesh,

You really need to grow up and learn cricket and also the rules and regulations. Till 15th over it was power play so both tendulkar and sourav was able to make runs. But after 15th over, Srilanka did not take power play. So its very common scoring runs are not so easy. Hope you get this straight into your head. Stop blaming sachin and sourav. There are 9 other players in the team. Sachin alone cant bat all 50 overs and bowl all 50 overs. Sachin is the best alrounder India has got atleast as far as ODI goes.

Well said too.
People have their opinion based on the players and not on the fact of their recent performance...
Ganguly was one a terror in the first 15 overs far better than ganguly and he has hit 6s time and time again

Well if there are 9 others players who can bat better by your opinion then y send these two who cannot even take singles after getting settled down in the pitch. when new comers like dhoni and karthik can do it why not sachin and ganguly?
Yoges is right in a way. also schewag screwed his innings where he just needed a run a ball.
