These politicians are ruining cricket...
by Aditya Singh on Feb 10, 2007 04:37 PM  | Hide replies

I think that his outbursts about a non-cricketer being made a manager didn't quite go down well with Sharad Pawar and the other politicians who are reigning supreme in the BCCI. They will ruin cRICKET, JUST LIKE hOCKEY.

That manager had no right to comment on the team selection. Besides, in stead on focusing on tjhe person who leaked it, they are bothering a key player just before the BIG ONE. This can happen only in India, or in the sub-continent, rather.

Manager do have rights to submit report. It's a different story whether they have capability to understand the assigned task or not. (What if he was appointed due to some pressure or source?)

Before extending any comment we need to understand the perspective of the role expected to played by an individual. A manager who is responsible to look into administration has been asked to extend his opinion only because to seek a normal individual opinion who is observing every movement closely and has high degree of cohesiveness towards his cluster. This person may or may not be expertise in that specific area but should be good observer and an analyser.
I believe dravid should have shown a little more patience , after all these report are subject for evaluation by the expert. Above all we all take Third Party Opinion to have look into such small which might be over looked by the expert who may in some situation tend to be biased.
Parallely a strong investigation regarding reports got leaked to the media, before the expert comment has come. This seemed to be much serious issue .

Board-Calous or crooked
by ASG on Feb 10, 2007 01:43 PM  | Hide replies

Why Rahul is being publicly humiliated by the Board?
Calling the captain for explanation and speaking about that in the media was not necessary.
Could have been sorted out through phones or discussions without much fanfare.
First, captain Saurav was humiliated by a Board functionary who used jump too much behind the wicket but did not perform that much when he played cricket.
Second is the turn of captain Dravid.
The Board has alredy kept him under scanner and threat by declaring Tendulkar as vice captain.
The Board is unnecessarily creating pressure on players and captains for quite sometime.
I do not know who is the brain behind this theory.
He must be a brainless creature.

Board should be manned by full time professional.
They should be either ex national cricketers playing at lkeast 100 test or MBAs or direct recruit IAS officers.
Team selection should be more objective with the use of computers and statistics.
This K more should in no circumstances be allowed to be seen within 100 metres of the dresiing room or any board official.

Dont criticise Dravid now.
by azeem sheikh on Feb 10, 2007 12:10 PM

Dravid has been a great ambassador of the game. There should be something which might have promted him to outburst against Mr.Desai. Dravid is wrong to quote Desai as someone who has no standing in the game. u can criticise that.
But pls dont comment on dravids commitment as a player or captain. Any person in the world( not in india) who follows international cricket knows how many games he won for india, more than tendulkar and ganguly. pls go and see the statistics first and then barg on M.Reliable.

Has Desai mention ed anythign about bizzere umpring? who leaked report?
by Suman Bhat on Feb 10, 2007 12:01 PM  | Hide replies

Dravid as supporting players. As capatin of team should comment on his report without reading it ? Why desiai is silent for somany days and who leaked report just 2 days before Kolkata Odis? IF dravid does not support players he is dubbed as incompetative, not agressive if he show some guts to comment against report he dubbed as errogant ? Taem lost SA b'cuz of bizzere umpring? It happened during WI tour also. infact rahulfor not scoring runs and kumble not taking wkts had been criticised/. Had Desai mentioned kumble's 7lbw appeals were trundown rahul was given out3 times when he was not out that happened sachin KKD? why BCCI is silent? What the manager was doing? did he compalin to Match refeee against sub std umpring? how come goan newspaper got news first? Same thing happened to ganguly? Noboldy still clarify that how chappels msg leaked to bengali newspaper? what price ganguly paid and how much criticism/negative comments passed against dravid and chappe?
. has anybody asking clarificantion?
Now what kind game the board leaders are playing? they do'nt have time to renew the player's contract. But they know how to meddle with selection players etc.. somedays board members were criticised that players wer doing ad commericials?? some politician citicised dravid for attending Sevabahrti function for Surya Namaskar. Borad can not give any answer to polticians? Board is not complaing against the bizzere umpring during WI and Sa tour? Board supposed to encouage players instead they are playing cat and mouse game..like changing VCsn every match....sewag to laxman to sachin???
laxman joined odi for one match and gone, J sharma for one then manoz tiwary made XII in overnight for one match??
board should clarigy it's policy of selection players??

Do not conclude yet
by bharat on Feb 10, 2007 09:03 AM  | Hide replies

Let us not jump to conclusions yet. Hopefully, the board will make a fair enquiry into the whole incident. As a captain, there is nothing wrong on Dravids part if he suppports his team members. However, to do that he must convince himself that Sehwag has not done anything wrong. As the team manager, Desai has every right to report any untoward incidents during the tour. However, if he has misreported or exaggerated the incident then he should be the person to take blame. The board should make a fair inquiry to find out who is right and who is wrong.

At this point, we can only say that only one of the two - either Desai or Dravid is wrong. Who is right will come out only after investigations.

Very intelligent, Bharat. Renminds me of the remarks of a famous Specialist commentators many years ago. QWhwn asked what are the prospects of India winning (They were chasing hundred odd runs with a few wickets in hand), Lala responded by saying " Well if India makes the Hundred odd runs, they would win the game and if they do not, West Indies would" !!!

Smart one eh!

Not Done

It is an ominous sign for Indian cricket on the eve of gratest of oneday tournaments, the World Cup.
Rahul, whatever be ones reservation against his captaincy, particularly from Ganuly lovers like me, this is not the time for the man to be questioned or scrutinised with much fanfare.
This is absolutely unprofessional and amateurish on the part of the Board or Mr Shah to talk to reporters on what the Board is doing.
Once you select somebody as a captain it is your duty to keep his image in tact before the country, the media and other player.
A simple telephone conversation between Rahul and Board President or any other functionary on what happened and what the board want Rahul to do was sufficient.
I myself have criticised Rahul for his lack of aggressivenes as a captain etc on this page a number of times.
The readers sometimes indulge in verbal duels in support of their respective heros, but the captain heckling job started by the BCCI from K More days is nothing but ominous.
First it was the turn of Ganguly now it is Dravid.
The amateur leaders of the BCCI who perhaps never played cricket themselves beyond Mahalla or Club level do not appreciate the amount of pressure on the players before a big event.
Captain heckling at this point of time will simply demoralise the players.
It is the last thing I expected from the BCCI.

Stand by Rahul
by Indra Sengupta on Feb 09, 2007 07:18 PM | Hide replies

This manager report and suddenly the match fixing issue-
Is there any conspiracy to bring down the morale of the team before the W.C?
In no situation there should be any change in captaincy now, all should stand by Rahul as the unanimous leader.

Excellent.. Instead of questioning the person who leaked the report for cheap publicity, interrogate the person who is defending the team. great . It happens only in India (or should I say BCCI?)
