When you talk about merit it is politics.
When you talk about national integration and fellow feeling,it is politics!
What an age has come! Emotions are termed as politics!!!
Bring emotions in and cricket would be so lively.

Dude, don't compare this behaviour with the more important issues like Godhra/Bombay Blast/Nithari, etc. Those issues were more important than your then out-of-form DADA.

Just go and take a look at his batting record between 2003-2006 and you will get the reason for him being dropped from the team. I'm happy that he was dropped, in fact, he should have been dropped a year prior to when he was dropped.

Oh wait, he had the Captaincy to shield him!!! But again, go abd take a look at TEAM INDIA's performance during the last year of DADA's Captaincy, it was PATHETIC!!!

Oh yes, the protest at EDEN then was only supported by Bengalis, everybody else was supporting India under Dravid's captaincy becoz we were witnessing a resurgence of a struggling TEAM INDIA which was ranked #7 when Dravid took over.

Never has a captain or a team been criticized so much even after demolishing sides like a pack of cards. India under DRAVID beat Sri Lanka 6-1, drew against S.A. 2-2, BEAT Pakistan 4-1 & England 6-1. But they were still getting criticized even after these handsome wins. Sure, there were a few losses, but India never dominated like this under DADA. And then India started losing in the one-dayers and that paved a path for Ganguly's return.

I'm happy with the way he has returned, and all of the bengali Community should thank Chappel for this, becoz without him being dropped, he would never have reflected upon his batting the way he did.

DADA captained India for so long and yet India never won a test series outside the sub-continent, not counting the school-side Zimbabwe. And it took only 8 months for DRAVID to lead India to its first Test Series victory outside the sub-continent, in West Indies. Long-live Dravid.

I love DADA for he brought attitiude to the team when we didn't have any. He had all the answers to WAUGH's trash-talking, but somehwere down the line, post the 2003 world cup, he lost his way.

Even the most famous series win (against Australia) under DADA happened becoz of guys like Laxman, Dravid, Sachin & Bhajji. DADA performed pathetically in that series.

Nobody made a hue & cry when Mongia was preferred ahead of Laxman for the 2003 world cup, and yet this time round, all the Bengali Channels went about backing the "experieced guys" and as soon as Ganguly was selected, the world was a safe place to live again. All those experts forgot about Laxman!!!

Bengali channels & its experts say that India can only have a hope of winning this series if Ganguly is made the captain again, and yet, India lost in the finals of 2003 World Cup, if my memory serves me right, Ganguly was the captain then, and we still lost. Only two guys showed any resistence in the batting in the Finals, Sehwag & Dravid.

And now, i will take a rest!!!

Not true!Not true!! Not True!!!

I am shocked the way some people are trying to put a stamp of betrayal or gaddari against the Eden Crowd.
Never ever compare Saurav dropping episode with anything else.
A standing captain with so much success can not be treated like that and just remember the mischievous face of Jumping More!
His crooked smile, his persona non grata attitude to Saurav, remember everything and you find some reason, if not logic behind the behaviour.
Saurav has slapped all the critics with his bat.
Blind Persons like Raj Dung or K More are no longer even heard in the press and media.
The behaviour of the crowd may be wrong but the reason was right.
Bengal never stops short of showing their emotions to the nation.
'No Kapil no test' cry roared the crowd once with banners and posters when Gavaskar -Kapil row came to the surface and Kapil was dropped.
Bengal connection notwithstanding, Saurav is always a special hero for his aggressiveness, patriotism and captaincy throughout the length and bredth of the country.
When you treat the idol shabbily, protests are bound to come.
Emotions are like glass - fragile and to be handled with care.
The protests at Eden that time were not limited to Bengalis alone.
It gathered a snowballing effect, entire country joined, the media, the press, the people from all Indian cities and villages,
the film stars the politicians-all.
It became a sort of people's movement.
It happened never before in the World history of sports and what a surprise!
You keep the man out- he shines in the press media and people's hearts.
You bring in him and he dazzles with the bat.
There is really something in him, call it determination call it charisma or whatever.
He is really the captain material.
Some of you do not understand crowd behaviour and are crying hoarse as if something like Ayodha/Godhra/Bombay Blast/ Nithari/ Bombay Riot/Tandoor Murder has taken place here.
You do not know the culture of tolerance of broadness of Bengali mind and blowing the episode out of proportion.
You are traying to prove that Bengalis are traitors.
Not true!Not true!! Not True!!!
They are wronged against.
Partitioned! cut!! But never left the mainstream.
And do not think that you only are the whole of India,
vast area exists behind your back yard, in front of your entry gate, to the left and to the right of your village, city or state boundary.

last time when india played at eden garden, crowd there booed indian team and supported SA team for some reason. whatever the reason was indian team had nothing to do with that.

they rightly deserve to be deprived of watching good show by indian team and that's what rain god did.

becoz the Bengalis' favorite was kicked out of the team, they showed their true colors and made it apparent that it was always only about supporting their DADA, it never was about supporting Team India.

by Girish Dilip Doshi on Feb 08, 2007 08:18 PM

Neo Sports should give us a live update on whether the match would be played or not. It is really sick having to wait before a TV Set in wait for the latest updates. The only scrolling message shown is "Rain has interrupted play". They should give us a live update every 20mins until the match either resumes or is called off!!! I request all the readers to post a simlar message as I guess no one likes to sit before a TV Set like dummies!!!!!!!!
