Ponting is way ahead of his contemporaries
by Murali S on Feb 06, 2007 03:09 PM

I am surprised with such a game, he is yet to be called a legend. I bet this guy will lift the world cup and will score the highest in the world cup and he is finely tuned to do so. This inspite of his suspicion against spinners because he knows what a big stage means!

The Consistent perfomance under pressure by Ricky Ponting has proved that he is the greatest ever cricket has ever ever produced. He may not have volcano of records under his belt , but he has raised the lwevel of Australian Cricket to new heights. Congrats Ricky.

In India once a player becomes captain he will stop perfoming whereas Ponting is improving dy by day.Our Indian players non perfomance due to captaincy is more mental inability than any other reason. Moreover Cricket Australia does not entertain Politics in Cricket. Personal enemity, backbiting are not at all entertained.
Perfomance is the Key Criteria for their success.

Regards

SAMIR MANDAL

He is a great captain, but not the best. Remember has cricket best players in the world.

If you have warne,Glen, lee, gilchrist and other players than it can be easy.

No great captain was Imran Khan with the pressure he was under and the players he had, he did very well. Remember 'play like a cornered tiger'. players in india or pakistan always argue but Imran Khan brought the best out of them and helped them win.

Also Stephen Fleming did well with the NZ team along with current England captain Michael Vaughan. He turned the England team around.

Ponting is the best cricketer in the world right now, he leads from the front.

His record is just amazing, he always performs in the big matches, never chokes.

Stephen Fleming has also done very well for NZ, he's a great captain.

keeping the momentum goin...

It was Border n then Taylor who takes lion's share for taking Aussies to a new heights.. But we can't rob off the credits of their followers too.. But I think Ponting has now got a chance to prove his mettle.. It'll be found from how he forms the next era of Aussie attack... But also they must to be challenged(putting knife at their throat) by some team very soon.. Wish it happens.. Also Cricket Australia takes credit for functioning without any kind of politics or biasism or favour.. In a way that's what makes them different from other teams..

These awards just show us what inspiration can do. And back here in India. once a player becomes captain, he'll bog down and stop performing. whereas, ponting is just improving day by day. This proves, non performance due to captaincy is more mental inability than any other reason.

With the CONSISTENT performances under pressure Ricky Ponting has proved that he is the greatest ever cricket has ever produced. He may not have a gallery of records with him but he has raised the level of Australian Cricket to new heights.

He is a great cricketer, but not the greatest buddy. Australia were already a great team when Ponting became the captain, hence it is unfair to suggest that he has raised the "level of Australian Cricket to new heights". Their level was already raised high.

under mark taylor or steve waugh, australia did not dominate so much. I mean look at Australian team records. I agree taylor waugh made a strong aus team but ricky ponting has made them invincible. And they have maintained it since the world cup win in 2003.

I don't agree completely with the argument that Pointing took Ausis to new heights though I agree that he is a tremendous player. Border build Ausis team but he also brought UGLY AUSIS image to them. Mark Taylor played major role in turning Ausis to invincible team . Stev . and Ricky got privilege of enjoying great team, with due respect to their individual performances, which can produce results under any captaincy . So my vote will definitely go to Mark Taylor .
