DHOOOOOOOONI
by laxman vernekar on Feb 04, 2007 08:14 PM

Mahendra Singh Dhooni is only player in Indian team who plays like Australians.. Fearless and Effortless.
I hope he will be at the peak in the world cup and return as Player of World Cup 2007.

Its strange to see dhoni at No 3 position.
I like Dhoni and definately he has played some good knocks for India but i am surprised to know he is the 3rd best batsmen in the world. certainly this statistics dont support Dhonis knocks to be at 3. There has been consistent match winning knocks from Inzamum, Herschelle gibbs, Ponting , Kallis, Smith , Gayle, chandrapaul, Lara who have played more consistent and important innings during the entire last year as compared to Dhoni. Where are these players? Is this rating done by an indian agency? Being a diehard cricket and dhoni fan , i still wont digest for dhoni to be at no. 3. See the past 15 ODI's record for india and its a surprise for dhoni to be at No 3. Please judge cricketers through performance purely and not through publicity.

I think, these are the statistics for individual players not with respect to winning the matches. Cricket has this unique aspect. Match winning is important, but playing good and still loosing is possible and still people get recognized.

Mr.Sandeep Lengade, I really wonder how people like you can come and give comments about cricketers. Either you should know cricket and have sufficient knowledge before you talk about something or you should have atleast done some research before you open you big mouth. Let me tell you this, get this straight into your head. ODI batting ranking is calculated based on the performance of players for the past couple of years. You had mentioned players like Inzi,Gibbs,Ponting, Kallis, Gayle, Chandrapaul, Lara are more consistent compared to Dhoni. Before you opened you big mouth did you get a chance to look into the past year records of all these players. I know you never did. So here is there 2006 records.

Name Mat I NO Runs Ave SR
Inzamam-ul-Haq 19 16 3 450 34.61 74.75
HH Gibbs 22 21 1 696 34.80 89.11
RT Ponting       23 23 1 798 36.27 89.06
JH Kallis       14 13 1 373 31.08 69.07
GC Smith       21 21 1 561 28.05 85.25
CH Gayle 32 32 3 1217 41.96 83.81
S Chanderpaul       27 27 4 948 41.21 75.59
BC Lara       28 26 5 660 31.42 76.30
MS Dhoni 29 26 6 821 41.05 92.97

If australia is winning matches it does not mean ponting is playing good in all the matches. ODI batting ratings is calculated on the batsman performance in a period of time and not based on the team winning. Hope you big mouth guys learn something before you open you mouth. Dont think Australian players or south african players are too good compared to Indians players. As a team Australia is good because they have all 11 players contributing. But in India even though we have 3 or 4 extra ordinary people. Rest contribute next to nothing. grow up people

I feel sad for your comments Satish because you are keeping hope on a player whos chances will be nil if Sehwag clicks in one match. Robin will find difficult to get a place if sehwag succeeds in only 1 match . Despite being playing and proving good consistently i feel Robin is finding difficult to find a place due to the Seniors dominance in the team and thanks to the favouritism from selectors. I seriously want Robin to be given more and equal chance and sehwag to be dropped from the team for a year. But i know the Indian cricket for a long time and i know sehwag will open with ganguly in the world cup.

Let us not be partial on anybody and wish better sense will prevail on selectors in selecting the players on their capability.

Very soon ICC rankings for batting should read as follows:

1 M S Dhoni
2 R Dravid
3 S R Tendulkar
4 S C Ganguly

5 to 10 may go any others in the world.

Your are wrong. Please check the last two world cup records. In 1999 world cup at England the highest run scorer is Rahul Dravid. In last world cup 2003 at South Africa the highest run scorer is Sachin Tendulkar.

So dont make these old statements that indian batsmen fail in foreign soil. The above two players alongwith ganguly several times prooved for last several years that they are good in foreign soil also.
