Politics?
by Indra Sengupta on Feb 04, 2007 07:27 PM

When you talk about merit it is politics.
When you talk about national integration and fellow feeling,it is politics!
What an age has come! Emotions are termed as politics!!!
Bring emotions in and cricket would be so lively.

Bengalis are good people.
They are talented cultured and brilliant and they love all the Indians as true brothers and sisters.
They settle everywhere in India and travel to all corners of India.
Kolata is mini India where people from all religions and speaking all languages live peacefully.
Whatever they say against others are out of frustration when they are misunderstood and when Dada is miunderstood.
Love them, love Dada - don't hate and don't bother about the results of Ranji game.
They will love you too.
They adore Sachin like any thing and respect Dravid as a true gentleman and great player.
Sachin-Saurav Apartments or Sachin-Saurav Foubtains galore in Bengal.
Sachin Saurav Dravid posters sell like hot cakes.
Thanks.
God bless you.

Apart from Srinagar (1983 vs. Windies), the only other city in India where the Indian cricket team has faced such opposition from the home crowd is Calcutta (2006, South africa). A crowd of 100,000 failed to rise above narrow clanish feelings when Sourav was dropped. They booed every single Indian cricketer and cheered the fall of every Indian wicket. Such are the 'patriotic Bengalis'. A more shameless act in Indian cricketing history has not been witnessed. Fortunately the rest of the country and cricketing community is not as narrow-minded as them.

Cricket is not a war of nationality. It is just a game. You can support any team you want. It is not a place for proving your national interest necessarily. If you love your country there are other avenues to move on. For example if you are literate you can pass that on to your fellow countrymen or you can raise funds for good cause (don%u2019t read it as cricket) and the lists are never-ending if you truly love your country. You do not need to lecture on what Bengalis are or what they should do. Telling about Bengali Patriots in a forum like this would be very cheap. They freed India along with others without caring for the %u2018would be ruler%u2019. "Bengali haters" or mockers are visible minorities in India or in a forum like this sometimes in the name of 'Anand' or in the form of 'True Bengali'. You guys (may be the same) would not be able to scratch a dint in our culture because it has this nimbleness.
Dhiman,Canada.

Why are you so angry dear?
Where do you hail from?
What do you eat and drink as staple diet?
Which school did you study?
Did your dady used to beat you too much when you were a child?
Did your friends used to call you names or taunt you for any physical deficiency?
Are you in the habit of taking loans and avoid repaying?
What makes you so angry or scared.

Ranadeb Ranadeb
by Indra Sengupta on Feb 04, 2007 02:27 PM

Someone in the rediff post said that he even can play Ranadeb with ease.
Ranadeb takes nine wickets in 2 Mumbai innings, takes 57 wickets this season.
Still they are not convinced.
Are the Boses and Gangulys not Indians?
Man, praise merit and forget everything else.

Someone posing as True Bengali is True Nothing.
He is simply talking rubbish and fanning anti Bengali feeling.
Some irrational thoughts like Dada cannot play like Dhoni or Uthhappa or some unwarranted outburst of emotions against player like the calibre of Sachin and Saurav is very disheartening.
It is too early to compare any player with Sachin or Saurav. It is very easy to come to the crease and start bang bang bang, but it is very difficult to hold on such a form.
What happened to Shewbag?
So allow the players to play over a considerable period of time and then compare.
Personal hatreds against legends based on regoionalism has no end to it.
Even if all the plaers in the national squad are selected from a particular team, say Mumbai then questions would be raised on how many belong to which part of Mumbai or how many from which religion so on and so forth.
So stop all these non-sense, enjoy the game and appreciate merit.
There can not be any quarrel if you accept merit as the criterion.
Hence question the inclusion of players like Joginder at the cost of Ranadeb.

Sindh isn't part of india anymore :-) (Sindhu river hardly flows through Indian controlled territory...) I always wondered why Pakistan never complained that India's anthem lays claim to their territory... Anyway, off the point. Joginder Singh should not have been tried this close to the world cup. there was nothing to gain. If he was outstanding they would have picked him much earlier. I dont think he will be playing any game leading into the world cup and neither should Bose. He'll have to wait his turn - poor form of some current bowler his good form.
Yes, you cannot compare Uttappa et al to Ganguly who is a great ODI batsman and a reasonably good test batsman. Not yet anyway.
Merit will never be the sole criterion until the BCCI disbands the system of having one selector per zone. So, if a position is up for grabs (not the people who select themselves based on performance) then this regional thing kicks in. People get picked, most fail to perform, and get kicked out. They need to hire ex-players with a great track record and no regional bias...
As far as this discussion goes, it is a Ranji match so regional support automatically comes up which is fine.

hey slave (that is what Maximus was)
why dont you go to our neighbouring country and point it out to them that we are laying claim to their territory. They will give u a medal for sure. I have never seen a person who complains about his national anthem. You dont deserve to stay i this country.

Ganguly - O Captain ! My Captain!
by True Bengali on Feb 04, 2007 12:30 PM  | Hide replies

Please do not attribute India's 2003 world cup success to Ganguly. When India faced Australia twice and lost, Ganguly could do nothing: neither as captain nor with the bat. Against Pakistan, it was Sachin at his best and the charactered Dravid. (Ms. Debolina Roy, do you have any knowledge if that innings was also contrived? Pls. enlighten us Ms. debolina Holmes with your latest theory. Sourav had some memorable knocks too...against Namibia. O Captain ! My Captain! The problem is that Bengal has contributed so little to Indian cricket in the last 50 years that Bengalis go blind about Ganguly. Its a pity that the cannot enjoy with the rest of the nation when Sachin and Dravid propel India to new heights.

I dont know who r u as your name suggests nothing! You'r bringing the dam regional centiments...Ganguli is first Indian then Marathi or whatever.Ganguli is our pride as is Sachin...there is absolutely no scope of regional centiments in India's winning or for that matter in loss...I dont think if Sachin makes a ton it will be remorseful in Bengal or for that matter if Saurav comes up with a ton people will feel betrayed in Hyderabad or in Pune.....Dont spoil the forum.

If I am not mistaken, Zahir Khan is from Ahmednagar district of Maharashtra (near Pune) and he is a Maharashtrian. He went to Baroda for a better career opportunity (like Rohan Gavaskar decided to play for Bengal) and his decision seems to have been useful to him.
