Wish you all the best team India
by Seema Shetty on Jan 01, 2008 03:31 PM

Happy New year to all and Team India.
I hope our batsman are thinking more of facing the bowlers, and our bowlers are thinking more of getting their batsman bowled out. Let all other thoughts like criticism, appreciation, politics, money etc evaporate from their mind. I hope they try their 100% effort. I am not bothered about the result as long as you are committed and trying hard. I appreciate your committment more than the result. Just enjoy the game

With lots of wishes
Seema Shetty

Really Funny
by adyar com on Jan 01, 2008 03:10 PM

He He He.. We have the best bating line up in the world and still this column openly says that they fear fast bowling.

Then what is the use of having personal records ?

What a shame , when the Indian Team play in the home pitch , they always wanted bating pitch . Is it just for records or they dont want to face Shoaib Akthar ?

Please stop writing uncultured words and behave in a dignified manner. If you can write some cricketing logic, let us reply to it. It is possible that there are difference of opinion and if you cant digest it and want to respond in arrogant way like this then there is no point in responding to your comments.

Indians batsmen will be made to dance
by CricFan01 on Jan 01, 2008 03:01 PM

Lively wicket means Indian batsmen will have less scoring opportunities because most of the time they do no play horizontal bat strokes which is a must on bouncy wickets. Indian batsmen are not naturally inclined to play those strokes because they have been brought up on low and slow wickets. So if they cant play the horizontal bat strokes, they will hop and dance around the crease. Surely Bret Lee and Mitchell Johnson must be licking in anticipation.

Dravid is not the main culprit
by Janardhana on Jan 01, 2008 11:13 AM  | Hide replies

nowadays people are obsessed with 20-20 and one day cricket so much that they can't differentiate between Test and one day cricket. Definately dravid's performance is not that bad in first test, others also failed badly.Dravid atleast played 35 overs took the shineoff thenew ball and made sure that when other batsman came ball is old and well as bowlers are some what tired. This is defiately not a bad thing in test. All players need not play aggressively. EAch player has to decide what is best for him and play accordingly. Claims of such slow batting affecting moral of other batsman is a figment of imagination, as such batting affects opposition bowlers also and they can get frustrated also which people are not appreciating because every body in one day and 20-20 mode.

Stop making such statements...Dravid scored least runs compared Sachin,Saurav,VVS...he was also responsible for playing slow as opener...

Just a few runs extra doesnot matter. Did sourav, vvs score at least a single fifty. What about jaffer, yuvaraj and Dhoni, they have scored less than dravid. Only tendulkar made a decent score in first innings. Besides, dravid has to play new ball while others had the luxury of facing old ball in their favourite positions. If you cannot notice this difference I can't help. And for playing slow, it is definately not bad in tests. Besides I never praised Dravid, I only say that we should blame everybody, not dravid alone.

Mr Janardhana, Dravid took too much time to make the runs and was ultra defensive as if he is playing test cricket for first time. He surrendered the initiative back to Australia on the platter after they were bowled out for 343.Even as number 3 batsmen Dravid is expected to face new ball when early wickets fall so it is not new for him. Agreed everyone has bad games so accept the fact that this was a bad game for Dravid rather than justifying that he played for 35 overs. No one plays 35 overs to score 20 runs in test cricket. Under any circumstances this is bad cricket.

You are still having myopic vision, simply because, you are failing to identify the fact that everybody failed. Cricket being a team game, with 7 batsman and any one could have taken the attack to aussies and helped others, but that didnot happen. Unfortunately all the criticism is on dravid, but in reality atleast dravid made an attempt, again I have accepted the fact that dravid had a bad game for his standards, but others too had still worse game like jaffer, yuvaraj and dhoni. Why only critisise dravid. Also in test cricket palying slowly doesnot matter, sometimes it can frustrate australia, even ponting had to turn to his parttime bowler to get rid of dravid, so playing slow need not hand over initiative to auss, and also it is totally rubbish to blame dravid for other's failure, players having played 100 or more test matches cannot give excuse that they are affected by somebody else's failure.
