List of excuses for losing in Australia
by Samsung on Dec 31, 2007 12:28 PM  | Hide replies

A few weeks before the Indian team embarked on the tour to Australia, BCCI hired MBA grads from B-School to come up with a list of excuses for losing in Australia so that Mr.Kumble and the team management are saved from embarassing questions. Here's the list that they came up with :-

1. The flight to Australia and the local flights were too long. This caused a lot of boredom which reflected on the players in the field.
2. SRK did not turn up to see a single match. Neither did Deepika Padukone (well now since OSO is released and is a mega hit, SRK and Deepika dont need cricket for publicity)
3. Global warming resulted in the ball not swinging as much as we are used to.
4. No make up was allowed during play. Almost all our players (with the exception of Kumble) are used to make up and hair styling.
5. There were no "retakes". When a batsman got out, he waited at the crease thinking the umpire might shout "retake". Yuvi is a case in point. Our players are used to this as well given the number of ads that they do.
6. The political uncertainty in Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Ghana and Malaysia had a very depressing effect on the players in general and Dravid and Tendulkar in particular.
7. The value of rupee is appreciating against the dollar. Now one might ask whats the connection. Well, whats the connection with the first 6 excuses. None. Who cares. Just make the excuse. The media will find a way to justify. The players will find a way to make m

Hopefully they will rad these and come up with some other excuses if they faill again.

We need to work as a team to win the rest of the matches... The batsmen are failing mostly.

That was hilarious & intelligent dude! You gotta be writing regularly for the sports pages!!
And till when do we keep calling these bunch of overpaid gentlemen "arguable the best batting lineup in test cricket"? This Australian team can beat us with 5 players batting for them...
The 20-20 "world champs" are brought down to earth. Where's the aggro now guys!

Definately they have plotted Ganguly. He was consumed by Hogg who is a spinner despite the fact that Ganguly is a good player against spin and Ganguly could not get a 50. Also may be They may benefit from Ganguly's presence in the middle because of his poor running between wickets which will affect other good batsman and then claim Ganguly later . that's what they did.

Sudhindu Aussies are not fools.
If they plot Ganguly failure.
Then they will loose benefits of gifted run outs.
Runs gifted by relax fielding 10-20 extra runs gift. Then dropped catches.
also if somebody better runner between wickets is chosen then 20-30 runs extra will go to opponents.
Who wlii loose these benefits by plotting Ganguly out.

Not intimidated?
by CricFan01 on Dec 31, 2007 07:12 AM

Oh yes you were not intimidated but lost the test out of goodwill. Mr.Kumble, just accept the fact the Indian team (no matter whom they select) is not good enough for this Australian team who are determined to rout the Indians 4-0. Your players dont know how to play in pressure situations and rotate the strike. You only want to hit boundaries which are hard to come by (Aus bowlers are not going to bowl long hops for your batsmen). You batsmen should learn to adapt to tough situations and not expect loose deliveries every over. Even if your batsmen perform better in the remaining tests, Australians will lift their game too as after all they are world champions. So stop dreaming of beating Australia, just try to play positively first and give a good fight.

Yeah buddy, you guys were not intimidated at all. You guys were just thrashed and ironed.

Kumble bhai, keep your eyes closed to the reality that you are up against a very well prepared side and soon we'll have a wonderful test series result.

Late arrival has cost India dearly - Roebuck
by Shankar on Dec 31, 2007 04:50 AM  | Hide replies

Never again must India prepare so poorly. It is an insult to the supporters and players.
India must not fall into the trap of judging the importance of a game by how much money it makes.

India has paid a heavy price for its late arrival in Australia. A team hoping to challenge the champions on their own patch must prepare properly. Campaign of this sort cannot be overnight affairs cobbled together on a whim.

Obviously, it did not help that rain fell in the solitary warm-up match but that was hardly a surprise. Melbourne is a wet city. In any case the damage had been done.

India was obliged to field its Test team because the batsmen needed an opportunity to acquaint themselves with conditions and the bowlers had to adapt to the grass and balls used down under.

These things may sound minor but they make a difference. It is not possible to beat the Australians without paying attention to detail.

Dangerous option

Before a ball had been bowled, the tourists were forced to make several significant decisions. Anil Kumble began with a gamble. Playing Virender Sehwag might have been risky but choosing a team with only one opening batsman was dangerous.

Everyone knows that the battle of the new balls are crucial in this country. India had to win one of them to have a chance. All the more reason to select the most reliable opening pair.

You think India would have performed well if they had arrived earlier? Come on, even if they had 1 month practice in Aus the result would have been same. Aussies are too good for Indians. If they could not score 200 runs on slow pitch like Melbourne, then imagine what will happen on bouncy wicket in Perth - they will hop and dance

Unwillingness to run singles costed the match...
by Subodh Srivastava on Dec 31, 2007 02:20 AM

On big/slow outfield grounds like MCG you have to run b/w the wickets to keep the scoreboard going, whereas Indians and world famous in not doing so. There are a lot of advantages of taking singles. Besides keeping the scoreboard moving, it adds pressure on to fielding, bowler is not able to target, concentrate and strategise for a single batsman. Indians have a gud batting line up, but their tendency to score from boundaries costed them the match besides the BIG defensive frame of mind that Dravid put the whole team at the top of order...guess nobody can explain what he was trying to do..

strange comments from Kumble
by Gen Zia on Dec 31, 2007 01:21 AM  | Hide replies

Anil Kumble on NOT picking up a specialist opener at MCG"

"other two openers, who could have possibly taken someone else's place, weren't really getting runs. It is a difficult position for me. If Viru and Dinesh Karthik were in great form then the choice would have been easier."

My dear Captain, if you knew Karthik and Sehwag are out of form why did you insist on picking them at selection meeting? Why on earth Parthiv Patel and Akash Chopra are cooling their heels in India now.?

no other player came forward to opening to accomodate yuvi. And dravid being out of form asked to open batting that shows value of dravid in ind team.Dravid only batsman in ind team batted from No 1 to 7 in odis and test. Even master did not blast and tiger did not roar. master blaster wanted to open innings in odis and ganguly complained tha the missed many 100s in test batting up in order. but in test batted on regular slot still failed to perform.
afraid to face lee johnson cleark with new ball with morning dies
but in odis opening means batting is with field restriction no pressuer of increasing runrate and enoubh balls to face...
dravid accepted challenged and opening innings knowing that vengsarkar has an agenda against him.
in test at least he stayed at wkt and for 2 hrs and played till 35 over in second innings other 8 wkts fell in less than 35 overs within session of lunch to tea. dravid survived at least on session.
dravid was shufflled in batting order in odis before he was dropped..this did not happened to any other senior player.
let tendulkar and ganguly open in test and make them bat in diff positions in five odisagainst aussies Why dravid has to face descrimination in batting order and made scpeagoat? If ganguly and tendulkar wants to open in odis why not in tests
what about failure of jaffer, l dhoni yuvraj and harbajan wktless????

It was collective batting failure why r u blaming dravid only

You dont have anything else to say, do you? The same message is repeated all over the forum. You are a staunch Dravid supporter but accept that he messed up in this game. He is a great player but in this game he surrendered the initiave by making 5 off 66 balls in 1st innings and not running the singles when they had a chance.
