Dravid has fallen to into the trap that the very "technically correct" batsmen in the past like Sanjay Manjrekar, Geoff Boycott, Chris Tavare, etc fell into. He seems to have forgotten that in Cricket, the team scoring more runs than its opponent wins the game! The objective of a batsman is to score runs. What purpose is served by grinding out a stay of 100-125 balls at the wicket and scoring 1-12 runs? This is not a new trap or just the pressure of the Aussies. Remember the last test of the England series and India was poised to win? After not enforcing the follow on, Dravid scratched around for 65-70 balls to score 5-6 runs. His over defensive approach is costing the team and he is too good a batsman for Team India to lose. Dravid should voluntarily take a break, work on his mind and come back refreshed. He was never cut out to be a dashing aggressive captain or a cavalier stroke maker. Now the pressure of captaincy is off his shoulders, he can loosen up and play his own game. Else, there is a very real risk of this great batsman facing the ultimate humiliation of being dropped from the Test team too. (Statistics dont lie- look at his scores from the England, Pakistan and now Australia tests!). I am sure a determined Dravid who is a selfless team player will realise what he has to contribute to stay in the team. A break for him is really overdue

I think you are out of your mind. When Sourav was out of the team, people protested from all over India (Other than Southern India). Now you guys were so jealous that Ganguly is playing so good and Dravid is going down. It is obvious as truth always sustains. Dravid played dirty politics and getting his misdeeds back now. Whereas, Sourav kept him in team in time of his bad performance making him wicket Keeper-remember? Actually you guys cannot take what Bengal has to offer. hey guys why do we so much talk about bengali's, kannadiga's etc. the basic fact is that all are indians. We have to win against team thas australia. so we have to play as team. instead of backing onme individual lets back the whole team. what say. to be frank i am quite new to this discussion board
i think the gamble is to make sure india's most experienced players play at their usual positions....dravid is a very imp player and he should be brought back to 1down...sehwag cannot b given chance against the ausis as he wud b in tremendous pressure to perform n tht too playing against aussies...karthik isnt playing well atall...yuvi's 1st innings dismissal was unlucky so he deserves one more chance...i think they shd go with jaffer n dhoni as openers...dhoni has knowledge of openning as he had done for jharkhand...

no other player came forward to opening to accomodate yuvi. And dravid being out of form asked to open batting that shows value of dravid in ind team.Dravid only batsman in ind team batted from No 1 to 7 in odis and test. Even master did not blast and tiger did not roar. master blaster wanted to open innings in odis and ganguly complained tha the missed many 100s in test batting up in order. but in test batted on regular slot still failed to perform. afraid to face lee johnson cleark with new ball with morning dies but in odis opening means batting is with field restriction no pressuer of increasing runrate and enoubh balls to face... dravid accepted challenged and opening innings knowing that vengsarkar has an agenda against him. in test at least he stayed at wkt and for 2 hrs and played till 35 over in second innings other 8 wkts fell in less than 35 overs within session of lunch to tea. dravid survived at least on session. dravid was shufflled in batting order in odis before he was dropped..this did not happened to any other senior player. let tendulkar and ganguly open in test and make them bat in diff positions in five odisagainst aussies Why dravid has to face descrimination in batting order and made scpeagoat?If ganguly and tendulkar wants to open in odis why not in tests what about failure of jaffer, l dhoni yuvraj and harbajan wktless????

Please dont quote Dravid's past performance in tests 2-3 years ago...this way people can quote Akash Chopra's terrific form in Australia 3-4 years ago to justify his place now..It is ultimately the current form that matters...
So let us not favor Dravid based on his past exploits...at MCG he was pathetic score 5 run in 1014 balls and he needs to be dropped for his defeatist attitude.
I would rather give chance to Viru or Yuvi and Dhoni as they younger and will learn from this tough tour...Dravid is useless now at his age anf poor form.

v need one genuine fast bolr. if not available, v hv to take one of those young guys like ishant or pankaj who r having 6 and half ft height. either of them can b tried. they hv the potential to generate good bounce on ausi pitches using their height. they can b 'accomodated' by dropping any of the useless batsmen like yuv and dhoni.
if 7 batsman cant score 150 runs then its no use of seventh batsman. v need to take 20 wkts also.n ishant/pankaj may b tried as 5th bolr.
dhoni n yuv r useless in ausi. no doubt of dhoni's weakness. even yuv is useless. dont quote his 169 score against pak on flat pitches. as per the stats, yuv has not made even half century in the last 9 innings 'overseas'.

ponting said that ausi had 4-5 different plans for ind batsman, analysis of them in their laptop, etc. this is all rubbish, as now they have been victorious against ind in ausi pitches. if ponting had to boast such things, then he shud b asked y those plans were not successful when they played ind in ind and in t20 format. it seems that after victory, capt can say any damn things.
