Button up boys ... button up ...

Venkatesh Prasad will be long remembered in Ejaz Ahmed's household. He is solely responsible for resurrecting Ejaz's career. Ejaz hit some of the biggest sixers in Sharjah when Venky was bowling.

What would Venky do ? He would button up his shirt until the collar bone and go back to his runnup.

Now, guess what ... the same Venky has suddenly become priceless and selected as the bowling coach. Wait till you see all our bowlers start buttoning up their shirts upto the collar !!!

Great advice from the greatest fast bowler of subcontinent

Akram is the greatest fastbowler of the subcontinent; would make a great bowling coach for any team world-wide, including Australia.

Vandana Chiniwalla
Wasim Akram as India's bowling coach??
by Vandana Chiniwalla on Dec 28, 2007 10:04 PM  | Hide replies

It would be a great choice,he bowled with a short run up but he generated enough pace to trouble the best of batsmen. His pace was easily in mid-80s.He can be a very good coach to the likes of Munaf,Irfan,Ishant and Pankaj Singh..
I wonder if our bunch of BCCI morons understand that if we do well,we'll definately generate more revenue rather then stupid endorsements, television rights, etc

Well said Vandana! I hope the BCCI remove their ear-muffs or wake up soon. Wasim Akram would be THE choice if we are to do well in 'bowling'! He has been (indirectly) expressing his desire to do so for a while now. BCCI...........are you listening?
Best wishes,
SRC

Vandhana,

Akram was a tearaway pace bowler in the 80's -fastest ever from Pakistan. After his knee and shoulder injury and diabetic problems he curbed his run up but still with his massive shoulders he can generate great pace.

Read this stat in cricinfo fastest speeds recorded for Pakistani bowlers
1) Akram
2) Younus
3) Nawaz

I've watched Akram and Younis play in counties.
Younus was known as toe crusher as he had fractured many Englishmen toes with his yorkers.
Akrams bouncers were more lethal.

Akram lost his pace around 92 but he was sill terrific but unfortunately after Younus suffered from surgery he was never the same bowler again

Langer lbw Agarkar
by on on Dec 28, 2007 09:58 PM  | Hide replies

This was what was happening consistently during last tour of Aus thus breaking the opening partnership soon. But this time there is no Agarkar and no late swing to trouble the opening left hander called Jacques who plays a bit like Langer.

Venkatesh Prasad
by Vijay on Dec 28, 2007 07:50 PM  | Hide replies

Valuble words of wisdom from a great bowler - Wasim Akram. Even Waqar gave some tips during the CNN-IBN chat during the tour and Allan Donald some time back wondered why our bowlers aint sticking to the basics.

From the info we are getting from these doyens its getting crystal clear the bowlers aint getting proper inputs.

Whats the role of Venkatesh Prasad then?

We all know he used to be a rubbish bowler bowling offbreaks and legbreaks in the pretxt of medium pace.

Really from where do BCCI recruit these imbeciles? Do they throw a drift net in all rotaries of the Cricket Associations and pick out a random idiot out of the pack?

RE:Venkatesh Prasad

Fair point Ram!

There was also news that Prasad has got some coaching badges from ICC and so he was deemed to be qualified coach.

Also great players do not always make great coaches although like Akram their intellectual analysis would prove invaluable tips that can transform an average bowler to a good bowler. Never in million years a junkee like Prasad can either grasp the concept or give such an advice.

There is also TA Shekar not a great bowler but the assistant coach to Dennis Lille in the MRF Pace foundation (nearly 18 years). TA Shekar has coached all pace bowlers starting from Srinath, to Ishant and all to have ever played for the National team after 90%u2019s. And also internationals (Vaas, Bond and many more). Whenever any of our bowlers lose their confidence (it happens often) they seek asylum at the MRF pace foundations looking upon at Lille and Shekar.

But Lille (not even Shekar) wouldn%u2019t come cheap. May be the cronies running the BCCI are looking for a contemptible option and a redundant thicko like Prasad should fit their bill fine.

Great advice from a great man. India should recognize that Akram can do good for India. If he can be assigned Prasad's post, it will be a huge bonus to the team.

Prasad himself was never a good bowler, wonder what he is teaching the team :)

Akram is the best for the bowling coach, He had helped Irfan Pathan in past to become a stiker bowler.Same he is guiding to Zaheer and R.P. Singh. This signifies about interest towards job of Bowling coach. No doubt is a best swing bowler along with Waqar Younis. Time has come to take over from Prasad to Wasim.
