SOMETHING tells me Rahul Dravid will be India's key player in its quest to tackle the mammoth task that confronts it.

He is a proud man who would have been wounded by his first innings performance and I have no doubt he would have thought long and hard about how to rectify his lack of impact first time around.
When in the right mindset he is the toughest batsman in world cricket to dismiss and already has a double hundred on his CV in Australia. Like all great players, he's only one favourite shot well executed away from being back in form.

rediff is biased they put only the bad comments on dravid

Dravid not suitable at opening slot
by Ashish Tyagi on Dec 28, 2007 09:25 PM

Kumble should adjust Sehbag in opening with Jaffer coz Jaffer also plays slowly like Dravid do.We need a batsman in opening who can do counter attack against the Aussies pace battery. Dravid should come at no 3

Ganguly..... is he a team man?
by sanjay on Dec 28, 2007 09:47 AM  | Hide replies

1st test first innings.
Ganguly played 8 ball in total of Brett Lee from 31 st over onwards in his innings. That is when he came to bat.

He exposed Kumble when Lee was bowling his second over to Ganguly. He took quick single a rare sight. Then in next over in hurry to milk Hogg got out.

Further as a senior settled in batsman exposed Yuvi and Dhoni to clerk early on at tea. Did not help them to settle. Then is he a team man?

Opening against fast and accurate bowling on hard bouncy pitches in aus conditions will be a tough task for any batsman
As a professional team player dravid he accepted challenge knowing that chief selector has already an against him and he was thrown out odi after five bad innings batting in diff positions
A failure of gamble for kumble as dravid failed as opener now ppl are already screaming against dravid. . He has never been selfish towards his position and game
Whenever team has problem dravid made scapegoat and desciminating in batting order for dravid? other Indian batsman is ready to open, buz they all are under tremendous pressure even playing in their regular slot,

make ganguly and tendulkar open batting in test against aussie and face the lee johnso and s cleakr sts and also make them bat in five diff positions in five odis then see the differnce in scoring strikerate. ..why everytime dravid should made scapegoat and none of player is coming forward to open innings to accommodate yuvraj. Ganguly said he missed many 100s bcuz of batting up in order why he did not come forward to opening??why great tendulkar did not secirfice his position while he wanted to open in odis. tmaster blaster did not blast or tiger did not roar..where was superstars when team require their service blabbering so much in front of media
If he fails he will be out of test team also He is well aware of chief selector has an agenda against him.( Already out of odi team after jus

Nobody can point out the finger upon Saurabh dedication on game. The person who always is being attacking against the big teams & have lost his wicket so many occasion to lift the run rate high & also have hitted most sixes in the ODI by any indian. Everybody knows to hit the six you have to take the risk of your wicket

Man u dravid fans will do anything to talk rubbish about saurav ganguly. Just because Dravid played pathetically, doesnt mean u take ur frustration out on dada. From ur post its clear thatweather saurav takes quick singles or not, ull crtisize him. Had he not gone after Hogg, u wd have called him selfish and trying to save his wicket which rahul does so often, now he went after him and failed, ur after his life again. Atleast have a proper stand, dont critisize just because a player isnt from ur state

First I am not a Dravid fan or I like good competitive cricket.

only at breaks settled batsman has to ease out new comer or a tail ender.
That is cricket.

Neither Kannadiga nor Dravid fan....
but early stages
senior has to easeout new comer at crease at critical junctures. There are numerous occasions Ganguly was struggling somebody else eased him out. Take last test at Bengluru Yuvi launched frontal attack on pakis then Gangs after easing started accumulating runs to lesser bowlers. Check his encounters with Shoaib in same match.

Tell us which player in Indian team is a team player? Don't point finger at one person alone. Anyway whatever you have said about Ganguly is just rubbish. If he has to protect any player, then such a player does not deserve to be in the team itself.

Not long ago Ponting said if ever he wants to change a rule in cricket...
Then he will opt for declaring batsman not out in out on first ball he faces....
It tells you something .....if you know cricket and if you have basic intelligence to understand what he said.

Kumble does not need protection. He even scored a century in England at age 36. He can bat pretty well. In fact Kumble started off his career as a batsman first in his teens. Then he switched over to bowling because he was good at it. Go watch some more cricket.

If somebody can accumulate 17000 runs by shirking fast bowlers, we dont mind a few more such players in the team. Just get lost.

Kumble made Dravid open
by India on Dec 28, 2007 09:04 AM  | Hide replies

It was Kumble's decision to make Dravid open. He knew full well that Dravid is out of form. How can one expect a player like Dravid to open and then score quickly when he is out of form? Dravid is known for his slow scoring. Why was Sehwag taken to Australia? Ultimately it is Kumble's responsibilty becasue he is the captain. But what Waugh said is correct. Dravid gave away the momentum. But Dravid is not to blame becasue he is not an opening batsman. In fact if a player is so much out of form like Dravid is at the moment, the team management should have the guts to drop such a player.

What demoralisation, you don't understand cricket, and steve waugh is telling this to further confuse India. In reality dravid did a decent job, by seeing off new ball and allowing stroke players to play their game although I agree it would have been good if he himself got some decent runs. But remember he is out of form and he is not an opener. On the contrary What did regular opener jaffer did. Similarly if some body bats like dravid did, in test it can also affect bowlers too. Not getting wicket can frustrate them also. Moreover, clearly after dravid, Sachin and sourav played a decent partnership and I am sure by steve's argument they have gained back momentum with 130 for 3 down, from which 300 plus was possibility. What happened then, why India lost sudden 3 wickets, what did Yuvaraj and Dhoni do. In fact this hurt more than anybody else. The 3 quick wickets when momentum was slowly turning to Indian side hurt India more than anybody else. Even if Yuvaraj and Dhoni stayed at crease like dravid did, we would have some runs and mind you they were playing old ball which was far more easier than playing newball, they were in their familiar batting positions. But unfortunately, people like you and media doesnot talk about this for they are biased and having a single point agenda to finish off Dravid.

One dayers and test matches are different. Playing Bangla and Australia are also different. In one dayers, once we settle he should have gone to accelerate, which he didnot do. In test matches there is always a scope for wearing out bowlers.
