As a team member Gangly might have few lack but as a captain he is number 1 in India. He is a very strong charecter, positive attitude, unbiased, motivation skill and has in born leadership skill. In industry a highly technical guy is not always a good Manager. A Manager should have in born leadership skill, motivation skill etc. In sports also a highly skilled player is not always a good captain. As a captain there is no comparison of Ganguly. HE IS THE BEST EVER CAPTAIN IN INDIA.
Ganguly misfielding in his 100th test match is priceless moment...and to make it worse the ball reached the boundary rope ..and Aussie fans are laughing their butts out

Nope, playing in his 87th against Australia. You are right, he is just 33 and few days. He can easily play 13 more and make it 100 as well.
To begin with, let me confess that I am not a bengali. I am a south Indian.
I love the game of cricket and comment on the game and the players, for the simple reason that I like good matches irrespective of the result and good show by any player irrespective of nationality, race, religion, region etc. I admire Kallis as much as I did of Viv Richards. I like Pietersen as much as I like Yuvraj Singh. I appreciate Ponting as much as I do of Mohd. Yousuf.
I find that in India, people become emotionally attached to or dislike players and accordingly post coloured messages in rediff discussion forum from a narrow and unsubstantiated view point.
I am a fan of Ganguly, the captain. I know that as a player he has his limitations. But he was unbiased in rooting for players from all over India during his tenure as captain and supported them to the hilt. You cannot point out a single player from Bengal who was benefited by Ganguly.
Now, no less a cricket personality than Steve Waugh has said that Ganguly is the type of player one wants to have in the side.
I don't think the lesser mortals masquerading as "all knowing experts" and frequenting rediff site have any better credentials to even discuss let alone criticise or belittle Ganguly.
Let this put an end to all types of ugly discussions on Ganguly henceforth.

No one disputes Ganguly's contribution to the team. He was a perfect person to lead the Indian team after what we went thru in 2000 match scandal. He did bring in more unity and spirit within the team. Upon retirement, Ganguly should take over as manager of the Indian team which a specific task of identifying talents, motivating younger players and managing the media.
SG failed to lead from the front by way of scoring runs, fielding, fitness etc. So just like other players (including RD/SRT etc) he is not perfect either. I also have issues with fans supporting an individual over a team.
Until he scored the 1000 runs in the current year, he was very ordinary with his bat (averaged around 40 till 2006 and now averages around 42).
Please remember that SG supported Deepdas Gupta and Gavaskar. Both are far from being international standards. He also sidelined some of the players he did not like. We all know about his association with Dalmiya because of which he could get away with a lot of things. Just remember that Wright wanted Ganguly to be out in 2005 which was not approved by Dalmiya. I can add more...but I just want to point out that SG was far from being a perfect person that you all seem to claim.
He was just another Indian captain politician who happens to captain more tests than others, lucky to get a lot of wins over B'desh and Zim and obviously won more tests than others.

I can't understand why Ganguly is given the credit for bringing up young players? Young players come up (a) because of selectors selecting them and (b) because of available slots in the team. Today, no young players can come in the team because the oldies occupy all the batting positions. The Twenty-20 team has a number of young players not because one individual brought them up, but because the oldies decided to opt out of it. In the ODIs too, young players come up when there is a place available for him. Dhoni came into the team and flourished not because of Ganguly or any one person but because of his own ability and because India had had enough of Parthiv Patel, the youngster supported by Ganguly. Probably, people such as Parthiv and Dinesh Mongia lingered in the team way beyond what was required because Ganguly as a leader wasn't ready to (a) look beyond available options (b) did not weigh merit and performance as much as he should have. In my opinion, the kind of leadership that Ganguly provided is not the kind that sustains success over extended periods of time.

To stop ugly discussions on Ganguly first the message board should be devoid of some ugly regionally biased minds, who might not have brought an iota of glory to their families even forget about state, region or country! However alas you cannot expect the world to be dust free so shoes were invented like wise ignoring the hate messages is only way to put a curb on this dirty exchanges!

BRAVO Dravid Opening against fast and accurate bowling on hard bouncy pitches in aus conditions will be a tough task for any batsman . it will be a challenge to even Jaffer As a professional team player dravid he accepted challenge If he fails he will be out of test team also He is well aware of chief selector has an agenda against him.( Already out of odi team after just five bad innings. (Harbajan was wktless in six matches still he playing odi ) Dravid batted in diff positions throughout his career and highest average than any other ind batsman in test cricket. Rahul is only ind player who won 3 icc awards and represented icc test team for 3 yrs and selected icc odi team for 2 yrs. %u2013( if same honour happened to any other player ind media would done huge noise) Dravid had record performance outside India and always performed against strong bowling attack, when team was under pressure. This will be acid test for dravid and Best of luck to 10 K runs in test cricket Even in 3 test against Pakistan dravid leterally opened innings and responsible for good partnership with jaffer.so making comfortable platform for middle order batsman to carry forward Team has 3 openers ganguly sewag and tendulkar and none of player is coming forward to open innings to accommodate yuvraj. If ganguly & tendulkar can open in odis why not in tests? dravid is well aware of vengi has an agenda against him still he is taking tough call of opeinng innings where is superstars blabb
