Indian Cricket Board falls into the same Australian trap again
by Stanley Mathews on Dec 21, 2007 04:35 PM  | Hide replies

Every Indian tour to Australia begins with the same storyline. Australians love to blow away every visiting cricket team by affording the as less time to acclimatize as possible. One practice match against a second string side is hardly the preparation required to adjust to the bouncy conditions in Australia. By the time the Indians would get used to the conditions, they would be 2 Nil down. This is the trick the Australians have been playing and I wonder why the visiting boards do not understand the plot. When Australians visit the subcontinent, they not only ensure sufficient warm-up matched but also dictate the choice of venues. Victoria is perhaps the slowest track in Australia. The opponents also lack any quality fast bowlers and with rains compounding the matters, this is the worst possible scenario for any team begining an Australian tour. Will the Indian Cricket Board ever learn.

I guess if we go so near to the starting of the series, then it is our problem not the ACB. If we were there 2 weeks before then we probably had more time to acclimatise. The problem is that we play too much cricket and just finished our pakistan series. So, don't blame the Aussies for this. That is a lame excuse.

It's not only about acclmatising to the conditions there, but it has also got to do with the mental toughness required to win overseas. With Aussies, it's more to do with ur attitude instead of skill set. They are a aggressive lot .They can only be fought by aggression which translates to smart play.Aggression is not about whacking/sledging but it's about ur performance doing the talking.

Thanks for the generous comments. What I fail to understand is lack of planning and strategy on the part of the Indian Board. I don't want to be prophetic but chances of the Indian team for boxing day test looks bleak- and we have no one else but the Board to blame. Perhaps the practice matches don't bring in the moolahs for the Board as the internationals. But isn't it a far too short sighted an approach.

I don't understand about Indian team and players, when they play much games and they says that we lost becoz of more matches without rest, now they says that they need to play more. It means our indian players have excuse in every circumstances. Well done boys, keep it up and keep on make fool us.

Hey!

I doubt if you guys have ever played cricket. Anyone with a minimal understanding of cricket would know what and why Dhoni is talking about some practice. Dear Geeks! Kindly keep your opinion to yourself.

Now I know where where the BCCI gets its idiotic ideas from: from the Geeks in this forum!

Anyone with half a brain would know Indian pitches and Aussie pitches are as different as chalk & cheese. When players say there's too much cricket it means we should stop playing these meaningless ODI series like that one against SA in Ireland and that joke of a cricket series in Malaysia. That takes a lot out of players and plus the matches mean nothing.

When players say there's not enough rest they mean they would rather remove these meaningless ODIs from the calendar and use those gaps in the calender to go to a foreign country well in advance and play some low-intensity tour games before a big Test or ODI.

Now I know where the BCCI got this brilliant idea to send India to Aus, where they've never won a series, a week before a big Test match like lambs to the slaughter - from the Geeks here!

Have you ever held a leather cricket ball in your hand, leave alone playing cricket. If you have ever played cricket you will not talk this nonsense. You need to get acclimatized with different conditions. The pitches in Aus are totally different than Indian pitches and the greedy BCCI does not seem to care when they plan the schedules.

Pissed off after the rantings of Tony Grieg (the man who claimed hed make the Windies grovel) and Ian Chapell who seem to udnerstand the psyche of Indians better than other people, suggesting we had a weakling coach Gary Kirsten instead of hiring someone like Buchana or Greg Chapell, actually they meant any Aussie.

This is a nice transcript from indiatimes ->

Warne also called former coach Buchanan a "goose" and somebody "who had no idea and lacked common sense."

"I don't think he has made one good point in a long time. He is living in a pixy land. We had to listen to his verbal diarrhoea all the time."

I think only warne appreciates the NAMAK he ate during his trips to India.

Replace Dhoni *now* with KKD Karthik or Parthiv Patel.
by computer learning on Dec 21, 2007 12:49 AM  | Hide replies

Even GOD hates weak people. Timing is wrong for Dhoni to make this comment. Strength is GOD (IMMORTALITY), weakness is DEATH. Dhoni sounds weak - replace him with KKD Karthik or Parthiv Patel who are mentally stronger.

Dhoni should say this *after* the series is over - at that time, he can even SHOUT LOUD. BCCI are morons, that's another thing. BCCI must also be kicked. Dhoni must back his comments with more positive messages.

Ohh you mean the Parthiv Patel who missed the stumping and cost us the Sydney test and our almost amazing Aussie triumph. Patel has got tons of chances and he blew it. Guts dont make up for talent. Otherwise every company would have people from Bajrang Dal instead of engineers. Btw I loved Parthivs MTV Bakra, it was one of the best.

Dhoni's recent behaviour is doubtful. When Kumble is captain, Dhoni does not play his own game and purposely slow the pace.

Timing is wrong for Dhoni to make this comment. Dhoni should say this *after* the series is over - at that time, he can even SHOUT LOUD. With this kind of timing, Aussies have a tendency to pounce on any weak links shown by the opponents prior to the series.

Timing chosen by Dhoni to make this comment is wrong. Harish Subramanian is correct, Praveen Rao is wrong.

For centuries now, all Indian teams visting WI/Aus/Eng have cribbed about lack of match practice in foreign conditions. I was reading an old article which mentions the way Sunil Gavaskar would practice and succeed on foreign pitches. He would ask the nets bowlers to bowl from a shortened distance (18 or 20 yards) to simulate the reaction time and bounce of faster bowlers.

Now, why can't our batsmen adopt the same method?

Yes Sunil loved the game. Thats why he had years of spat with Kapil Dev, thats why when Sunil played there were 2 camps in the team- Sunil camp and Kapil camp.

Sunil loved the game, thats why he pampered to Ganguly so his son could play for Bengal (he was not talented enough to be selected to play for Mumbai).

Snuil loved cricket thats why he wanted to be the captain and would not bat well when Kapil was made the captain.

Sunil loved the game, thats why he dropped Kapil from a testmatch, the only testmatch Kapil missed in his career.

Yes ALL our oldies were devoted players (including the great match-fixing oldies- Azhar, Prabhakar and Kapil) but not Kumble (who bowled inspite of fracturing his jaw) and not Tendulkar (who bowls when needed and doesnt mind fielding in the 3rd man position) and not Dravid (who has batted from 1-7 in batting order and kept wickets when needed)

Besides, you idiots, what makes you think that the current players are not using such strategies or better strategies to prepare?

Nit-wits, go back to you BPOs- "would you like to have fries with that".

How does Sachins one performance in Australia justify his selflessness vs all hes done in the past. Btw who is selfless. everybody is human, every single palyer, if they werent getting apid nobody would play. Even the brave soldiers wouldnt fight unless they have to get bread for their families. Just because someone has all the money in the world , and they do something for free doesnt make them selfless. Almost no act in the world is selfless. Thats how you differentiate Human from God. So next time you think you are doing a selfless act by donating money to a charity, do thsi instead, give your lunch and dinner to a poor man, and dont eat anything the whole day, now thats true selflessness.
