The matchwinner.
by Dennis Christie on Dec 13, 2007 12:09 AM  | Hide replies

The matchwinning 98 Not Out against Lanka at Kandy (perhaps), chasing 275 plus, the 2nd highest target India has chased ever succesfully in Test history in the 4th innings is Ganguly's best knock. Cricket is just statistics about half tons, tons, double, triple and quadraple tons. Just like the 48 Ganguly scored at Delhi test against Paks in the 1st test was a matchwinning knock. Players like Ganguly, Viswanath and Azhar are the real matchwinners in Indian cricket.

some Bongs say Ganguly scoring 144 against Australia to save match%u2026.
Fact is bowlers were Gillespie MacGill ,bracken, Waugh ,Katich
No Macgrath Lee or Warne.

1 st day ----- Match started late due to rain on ended early bad light. Two rain interruptions in between
2 nd day ------ Match started late due to bad weather on ended early bad light. Good interruptions in between.
3 rd day ------ half an hour play due to bad light and rain
4 th day ------ play ended early Ganguly scored century at tea in conditions it was clear can not be played for result.
5 th day ----- play started late ended as draw with mutual consent of captains.

How this can be match saving innings when everybody knew that there wont be result. Indian first inning ended on fifth day

gonchu...it is not the bongs but the cricket pundits termed it as the series setter...it showed the mindset of Indians that they have come to Australia to play hard...not to give up...and they followed this match with the one winning at Adelaide....Saale tu jalta marta rahta rah...saala pakistani bhi hazar guna tujhsien aacha hoga...desh drohi

98 by ganguly and 75 by Dravid steered india to victory. Sachin was not there. Zaheer and Venkatesh prasagd took 7 wickets each in the match. Ganguly was man of the match. That should be best inning on subcontinent and overall.

Players like Ganguly, Viswanath and Azhar are the real matchwinners in Indian cricket.

Will done Ganguly
by Arv Singh on Dec 12, 2007 07:27 PM

Saurav should feel on top of the world with his personal victory over the politics of "Pau-Bhaaji". The politicians running the BCCI were driven by Greg Chappel to ruin this man's career. This series and this test in particular has been personal triumph for the Benagli player and he deserves every second of it.

I give credit to Saurav Ganguly for bringing aggression and desire to win among Indian team. He remains the mnost successful captain India ever had. Just look at today's debacle with Kumble not taking any risks. Ganguly also groomed young players like Yuvraj, Harbhajan, Kaif, Nehra, and many more. He along with Dalmiya broke the stronghold of Mumbaikars in BCCI. Alas, we are back to square one with politicians like Sharad Pawar ruling BCCI. Keep it up Saurav, we enjoyed having you back in the team!

"Gratest 14 centuries and a double by Great Bengal tiger?"

Greatest can only be one.It is a superlative degree.....What does "Gratest 14 centuries....." mean??? And also, look at the spelling ...it should be "Greatest" not "Gratest"....Improve your English first. We can talk about cricket later.

Talking about the statistics you have presented...you should note that in most of the matches, India did not lose. Thanks to Sourav Ganguly. An advice for you(Ifear paceman)..try to be optimistic.

---Die hard fan of Sourav Ganguly.

dost yehin problem hain...i dont know what each people keep fighting for...they judge people by region, caste, creed....shows the lowly nature of the people who mentions / encourages such things...at the end of the day, people should be cherishing the performances rather fighting out within themselves...Seeing this I really doubt any stats which says that our country will be superpower by 2020 or something...without cohesiveness a country cannot survive...afterall whats a country...it is its people...India is about Indians...not gujus, marati, kanada, bengali, nor hindu, muslim....jai hind

It's good to see that Ganguly scored runs. But the pitch, pakistan bowling attack all are poor.
Everybody is scoring runs. Give Ganguly credit if he can prove himself in Australia..

HIS REAL TEST IS IS IN AUSTRALIA. RIGHTLY SAID.

IF HE FAILS, HE CAN JOIN THE REEL LIFE IN BENGAL. THEY DO GOOD MOVIES IN THE EAST.

SO, AFTER A HOCKEY : CHAK DE
AND A FOOTBALL : GOAL

INDIA NEEDS SOME MOTIVATIONAL MOVIE : SO WE CAN HAVE SAURAV AS THE COACH AND JOHN ABRAHAM AS THE DHONI : WHO WINS A TEST AND ODI SERIES IN AUSTRALIA.

AT LEAST, WE CAN SEE IT IN REEL LIFE, IF NOT IN REAL LIFE.

WE INDIANS NEED SOME STIMULANT, SO A MOVIE WILL DO! IT CAN BE CALLED : GOOGLY FROM HOOGLY.

Be the Producer of the film. You will make good money. It seems you are a businessman. Better spent your time in business and mint money rather than spending it in cricket. From your comments it seems knowledge of cricket for you is like "KALLA AKSHAR BHAINS BARABAR".

Ganguly played very well in this test series and looks to be in very good touch but this is not enough he has to make amends in Australia by carrying this form to prove a point. In test cricket Ganguly was consistently inconsistent hope he has learned from his old mistakes.

Fans going ga ga over his last 2 outings are quite justified b'se his best form in test cricket began again after the 2 centuires he played at his debute he has never performed this good.

He will definately play 100 test which will give him more satisfaction on his cricketing career but he should consider himself to be more fortunate in this league b'se the players who have played 100 test for India were much better and class players than him.

he has nothing to prove. i dont know why all are talking of the Australia series, have u all forgot that when all ur tendulkars and dravids failed in the very first test citing reasons of short time for adapting to the place, it was this very ganguly who evey body wants that he should prove himself in Austrilia, had scored a fighting century . Learn guys dont just talk for sake of it.
