Sangakkara - Gem of a player!
by Kari on Dec 07, 2007 06:42 PM

Sangakkara is an excellent batsman and has proved it time and again that he can pace and spin with comfortable ease. He is a really stylish and clean player and is a pleasure to watch too!

Attitude wise also he is quite good. He does talk quite a bit on the field, but never goes over the board like the Aussies!

Kudos Kumar!

The news appears when Ponting is displaced. Focusses more on who was displaced and not who has displayed....

Fine with me. Sanga is playing quite well at the moment but Ponting is the best batsman in the world and deserves the slight bias.

On current form Sangakkara is the best batsman in the world today in both versions of the game.

Yeah, we saw him in the T20 and World Cup 2007 against Aussies...for a losing team.

sachin the great
by biswa pal on Dec 06, 2007 11:45 PM  | Hide replies

it is unfortunate that two of the greatest batsmen(sachin and dravid)india has produced do not figure in that list of batsmen who have had a sustained period of dominance.no doubt sachin is a great batsman, but he has never had that period where he has made a string of big scores in test cricket(like ponting, kallis, sangakkara, hayden, yousuf etc}.that could be due to many factors.but,i think his best years were affected due to the career threatening injuries he had.a batsman's best years start from around 28.but,sachin had that back injury when he was 25 and had just reached his pomp.after that he kept getting injured.no doubt he has achieved greatness ,but,to be called the greatest he has to have that sustained period of dominance.

Dravid came close to this feat.. he had 4 consecutive test hundreds.. though he didnt score more than 150 in each innings. You cannot compare players on their current form.

Sanga's form is a bubble, that's it. He can make use of it until he sticks home and finally with this position he never was able to take his country home.

The fact is plain and simple : Sachin rarely went on to make big scores, that too frequently.

No point over-analyzing why he didn't do it !!!
