What is a Coach?
by on Dec 05, 2007 10:59 PM  | Hide replies

I think most of us doesn't know the responsibility of a coach. Coach is not a school teacher who teaches batsman how to bat and a bowler how to Bowl. Do we think Buchanan taught Warne to take wickets and Ponting, GilChrist and Hayden how to bat, Dav whatmore taught Murali how to bowl and Sanath how to bat? No, the players reached the highest level of representing their country after learning the game, after knowing how to bowl and take wickets and after learning to hold the bat and score runs. It is required at the higher level to held your nerves during the crunch time and not to deviat. I think, this is where a coach comes into the picture. So, we cannot see the coach's performance when he was a player. John Buchanan was never a great player in international level, but he was a great coach. Same with many other coaches. Greg was a great player and we have seen how good a coach he was, for whatever reasons. Here, I'm not supporting Gary as a coach, but before we comment on coaching we should know what is the role of the coach.

Well said to foolish people who cannot understand the topic on which they are writing. I do not know how they do their job with their poor understanding of the topic itself. Keep posting more messages to educate those who comment without understanding,

Gary...?????????????!!!!!!!!!!!
by Jolly on Dec 05, 2007 09:04 PM  | Hide replies

Gary can only teach them how to choke in big matches. Nothing more. What Interaction he needs. He was seeking assurances from India team for co-operation. Doesn't have stature and sure can't control a diverse team like India. Dada is enough to put him off the track.

Is Greg Chappell was right?we want to be No1 Team but BCCI runs worser than Zim Cricket Board.its true i guess
Sanjeeb Mukherjea: What about Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly and Rahul Dravid. Do you think that the Indian team is persisting rather too long with them and delaying the transition process?

Dean Jones: It is a good question. If they are still playing well and doing the hard things, I got no hassles at all with them playing for India. I have no hassles at all. But when they start to miss the boat a little bit you got to have a nice generation coming in. Greg Chappell was quite critical on having a very old Indian team to go and play in the World Cup and he was proven to be right. Isn't it? He got sacked or went on his own. Then they sacked some of the senior players and Dhoni took young kids to South Africa and won a World Cup. But India couldn't believe that we got rid of Steve Waugh or David Boon. We got rid of Ian Healy. Selection of a cricket team is a bit like a big tree and Tendulkar's a huge branch. And so is Ganguly and you got to understand that when you cut that branch and the leaves then the foliage will take over. And then when you cut another, the foliage will again take over.

But when you cut three or four branches at the same time you have got this tree that has got a gaping hole and it looks awful. So you got to do it systematically and in the right way. The Australians, since 1992, have done that in a systematic way. Every year or every two years

No Need of outsider coach...
by Milind on Dec 05, 2007 03:28 PM  | Hide replies

Look at this comparison... do we need outsider as a coach? Why can not we ask Sachin or Rahul to be a playing coach?

--------Mat -Runs -HS -BatAv -100 -50

Gary----101 -7289 -275 -45.27 -21 -34
Sachin--142 -11289 -248*-55.06 -37 -47
Rahul---114 -9622 -270 -56.26 -24 -49

Milind buddy, Coaching is different from being a player. Consider John Buchanan's records as a player and as a coach. Go to sleep.
