SELECTORS
by rickylara on Dec 05, 2007 01:13 PM

WHY SELECTORS NEED TO GO AND WATCH THE MATCHES IN THE STADIUM?. THEY CAN WATCH ON TELEVISION WITHOUT SPENDING MONEY. THIS MONEY CAN BE USED TO PROMOTE CRICKET IN GRASS ROOT LEVEL.

From the team which played the second test,I think we shd drop Munaf Patel. The rest select themselves.
In addition we shd have Yuvraj,Akash Chopra rather than Gambhir as batsmen for cover.R.P.Singh,Sreesanth if fit,Pankaj Singh or the new U.P. pacer Tyagi if he is good. The fifth spot of paceman has to go to Munaf or Agarkar orIshant Sharma or Irfan.Better go with Irfan.
Exta spinner will be Murali Karthik.I think Harbajan ' Test career is over. But let him go to Aus.He may find success at some bouncy wicket. But his inability to strike in Kolkatta second innings is glaring.Instead of Harbajan I favour Mishra or Piyush Chawla.I think Piyush is a better bowler
Dinesh Karthik is not looking good at the top but needs to be carried as second wicketkeeper. He is better than Parthiv Patel.

You are right on the money VP. Vengsarkar must be benifitting lucratively in a big way as the chairman. Otherwise if that post has no salary why will he stay on after all the humiliation? The benefits are worth far more than the humiliation he is getting from the BCCI bosses. Otherwise he would have quit.

Vengsarkar should go
by SuBrAjIt on Dec 05, 2007 12:08 PM

I have been reading the messages posted by people in the discussion board. Some say he should stay n some say he should leave, but noone mentioned the reason why they feel that way.
Infact i feel this guy should go. He is the reason behind the recent gag order set by the BCCI guys. How on earth can u justify your chairmain of selectors mentionin in TV channels as well as newspapers that India doesnt have good youngsters. Cmon its his job to find one and not cry sayin we dont have one. Besides how on earth can u justify his articles sayin it was Dravid who forced him to put Sehwag in the team to the World Cup. Man, these things even if true need to be kept a secret. Dont u think this is going to hit the morale of the team in a big way?
Besides, everyone knows the reason Dravid quit his captaincy which he was doing very well, was becoz of Vengsarkar's Hitlerism.
I think for the first time BCCI did a good thing of comin out with this gag order in favour of the players. But yes, I do feel these selectors should be paid a handsome money and should be held responsible if they fail to select a proper team and should be awarded if the team does well. They should be made proffessionals of BCCI and not as any honourary person. That thing doesnt make any sense though.

Auss tour
by raj r on Dec 05, 2007 11:35 AM  | Hide replies

Its time to scribble about upcoming aussie tour.
Looking at current indian team, batting looks pretty good(though conditions may vary in Aus pitches) and some changes needed in bowling department i feel. There is no doubt that sreesanth will do better in Aus as we have seen past dat he is the only bowler who can do something against Aussies. Here the concern is who is gonna support him in pace bowling department. Certainly not Zakh. We need one gud seamer with long run up who can create some gud pace.

At least Dilip stood tall against BCCI and firm too. Congratulations to the man.

Let me remind everyone of just one previous instance when a player stood up solid against BCCI. Sunny Gavaskar had requested permission to join the team a few days later instead of traveling with the team so that he could attend to a very important personal matter.

BCCI threatened to drop Sunny. He did not relent. Board went ahead and dropped him from the Windies tour.

Sunny had the last laugh. With him not in the Indian team, the West Indies Board Cancelled the whole tour. Hee Hee Hee.

I hope and wish Dilip to have the last laugh in this matter against BCCI. And yes, he was quite right about Dravid. Dravid informed BCCI and not Chairman of selectors about quitting captaincy. Why should Dilip bother about informing Dravid of dropping him. What goes round comes round.

All those who want to criticise men who stand up against insanity only deserve to call themselves names. No one else needs to dirty their hands wrting about such army of non-doers

He is a stupid
by on Dec 05, 2007 09:27 AM  | Hide replies

Vengsarkar is a stupid political guy. Board should have asked him to resign as soon as possible.
Being a selector is an honorary position. No one before this had ever demanded money from board for this. Moreover if he can earn Rs 40 Lakhs by writing column then why doesn't he do that and resign from the Selector's position?
He should be thankful to the board which give him such an gud position instead he has started demanding money for it. There are thousands of ppl who can be better selector than Vengsarkar without taking a single paisa.

Why is just threatening to resign from two weeks? If he has the talent and he can earn more than this any where then why didn't he resign? More over the under-table earning of this guy is much more than what he earns from writing columns.
Vengsarkar if u have a little bit of shame on your face then please resign don't threaten to step down. Barking dog seldom bites!

if vengsarkar wants to quit let him do it. who cares. no need to oil him. there are hundreds of others who want to be a national selector. we in india make a hero of a human bing. nobody gives a damn if vengsarkar quits. others like srikkanth, srinath, gundappa viswnath, gavaskar, chetan chauhan can also be chief selector. vendsarkar is not indespensible

but unless and until the board change their dadagiri attitude whoever comes they will face the same situation. If a cricket captian (Kumble)can write column in newspaper, if a chief selector (Gavaskar)or selector (Ravi Shastri)of team coaches can write a columnwhat is wrong Vensarkar writing a column and airing his views about the play and players. Pawar & Co. doing only highhandedness towards him.
