Vengarsakar needs to organize his English letter better.
by computer learning on Dec 04, 2007 10:46 PM

Dilip is not using effective English to communicate with BCCI. The point needs to more clear, and the letter itself should use effective English at all the places. [Note: effective English is different from any fancy or grammatically correct English.]

Sharad Pawar does not read Vengi's e-mail in person; Sharad's assistants do it for him, and then they convey the essence to him. These assistants are very adept in English.

Moreover, effective English is different from fancy or grammatically correct English.

The letter by Dilip is poorly organized, and there are a lot of stop gaps, loop holes which works to BCCI's advantage and to general people's disadvantage. If Dilip Balwant Vengarsakar is good at his job, then he also needs to acquire other necessary skills in order to serve the Indian Cricket better at the highest level.

Vengsarkar as coach
by Shankar Venkatesh on Dec 04, 2007 10:03 PM  | Hide replies

Vengsarkar knew of the restrictions on a selector when he accepted the post. He should have stopped writing then itself. Either he should be a selector or a writer and not both. He cannot hold Indian cricket to ranson with such threats to quit as selecor. If he is not interested, then there are so many other cricket loving past captains who can do a better job than Vengsarkar. Bindra / Vengsarkar / Gavaskar are all playing politics within the Indian cricket establishment that is surely detrimental to Indian cricket.

A person who is interested in money and power cannot do a diligent job as selector.

I hope BCCI can take a good and considered decision on this matter.

Dhoni/Kumble and Kirsten is an ideal combination for the job of India Cricket Team coach.

All three are charming - and either duel of Dhoni/Kirsten or Kumble/Kirsten will provide an awesome leadership to the team in the coming future.

See what kind of magic happens in the coming months in Australia and SA. Team India will win comfortably at both the places.

About time, we support ICL
by keith pavlak on Dec 04, 2007 09:50 PM

We as the paying public are sick and tired of these jackasses playing politics with cricket.People with not even an iota of cricketing knowledge are leading masses to sermons on cricket and cricketing affairs. Cricket selection in India has never been one for talent as should be and has always been a affair of regional quotas and preferences, but now with the introduction of full time politicians and kingmakers in the administration we are seeing cheap and dirty politics...soon we will see casteist politics in cricket where a cricketers caste/religion will be an issue. Its about damn time we let BCCI die and let Indian cricket be in the hands of ICL for T20,One day and test. Atleast we know they are run professionally have competent ex-cricketers who know their stuff doing the work and dont play politics...atleast yet..the first people who should sign up with ICL are Sachin,Saurav, Rahul, Anil and Laxman and then lets see how BCCI does. They are a bunch of nattering nitwits of negativity.

Is Greg Chappell was right?we want to be No1 Team but BCCI runs worser than Zim Cricket Board.its true i guess
by jagadeesh kumar on Dec 04, 2007 09:40 PM

Sanjeeb Mukherjea: What about Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly and Rahul Dravid. Do you think that the Indian team is persisting rather too long with them and delaying the transition process?

Dean Jones: It is a good question. If they are still playing well and doing the hard things, I got no hassles at all with them playing for India. I have no hassles at all. But when they start to miss the boat a little bit you got to have a nice generation coming in. Greg Chappell was quite critical on having a very old Indian team to go and play in the World Cup and he was proven to be right. Isn't it? He got sacked or went on his own. Then they sacked some of the senior players and Dhoni took young kids to South Africa and won a World Cup. But India couldn't believe that we got rid of Steve Waugh or David Boon. We got rid of Ian Healy. Selection of a cricket team is a bit like a big tree and Tendulkar's a huge branch. And so is Ganguly and you got to understand that when you cut that branch and the leaves then the foliage will take over. And then when you cut another, the foliage will again take over.

But when you cut three or four branches at the same time you have got this tree that has got a gaping hole and it looks awful. So you got to do it systematically and in the right way. The Australians, since 1992, have done that in a systematic way. Every year or every two years they cut a player out to keep the tree growing and prospering. So it will be a time in a couple of years that t

Effective english? Sir, he is not vying for an award in an essay contest..like Vengsarkar or not..he is a man he says it bluntly.Always has been.I think he has made his point very clear. You dont need exclamation points in a letter to get the desired effect. Please also remember, this letter is addressed to Sharad pawar who is not exactly Oxford material or has a Doctorate in letters. Such a letter in itself is more than complicated for Powar.Content always rules over cover and context.

You guys are much better than being "naive", is that correct?

I am providing respect to Pawar's position when I say - "Sharad Pawar does not read Vengi's e-mail in person; Sharad's assistants do it for him...".

You are a funny person.

i AGREE with you 100% ..
formal letters like such should have
its own charm of english grammar and
vocabulary.
Afterall you are writing to the president
of BCCI... BUT (read further) ...
think about this .
When Vengsarkar wrote this .. he might have analyzed his audience and thought.. If I flaunt of my english in front of this Jackass .. i probably won't be communicating my thoughts clearly enough .. he might need a lawer to do the same .. let me just write this in terms of a n ordinary man ... maybe then he might understand something ..
maybe he is subtly commenting on the stupidity of the BCCI president!! lol

Does Niranjan Shah and Sharad Powar Knows Cricket???
by mohammed qureshi on Dec 04, 2007 06:46 PM  | Hide replies

If i am not mistaken our BCCI Secretary Niranjan Shah, when it comes to knowledge, understanding and tactics about cricket, is a pure Layman. i am wondering how he has been given such an important Job. when you watch TV Channels it seems he cannot even read the pre written statements during announcements of selected teams. Its a real pity that the weallthiest board is represented by such misfit people. If whatever Vengsarkar is telling about Niranjan Shah is correct the borad should take action first again Shah not Vengsarkar. His guilt of interfering in selection matters without knowing anything about cricket and its tale is much bigger than that of Vengsarkar being outspoken and aggressive about Team Indias performances.

The case of Sharad Powar is not different to it. Has he played cricket at even city league level?? or even his chamchas. i think no!!! so they are running BCCi. Its ridiculous. Its high time political undue and unnecessary influence is removed from BCCI and let BCCI become a body of pure and professional Cricketers and administartors not a bunch of jokers or political failures wanted to compensate outside politics.

Sunny gavaskar, Mohinder Amarnath , Ravi Shastri, Kapil Dev Srikkanth, Azharuddin come forward and save Indian crciket from political and commercial Ghosts.

You are absolutely 100% correct. It is time to get the politicians and the non cricketers out of the board, we have very fine INDIAN cricket legends who can do the job and it SHOULD be that way since they are the ones who can and will give FULL justice to the indian Cricket team.

About Vengsarkar's position, I support him completely since he is a fine cricketer and obviously he would do the right thing for our cricket team and he has shown his integrity through out his fisrt class international cricket career.

What are you waiting for?
by Justin Time on Dec 04, 2007 06:31 PM  | Hide replies

Any self respecting person would resign unconditionally rather than suffer such treatment at the hands of people who know nothing about cricket. Vengsarkar must remember that his treatment of Dravid was no different, not the dropping part, but commenting about his captaincy or batting order in front of the media rather than talk discuss with him in person.

If you still want to be remembered as a great Indian cricketer, LEAVE NOW, the BCCI belongs to thugs.

Why should Vengsarkar leave. My point is we need to look at the end result, which is making our indian team the best. If Vengsarkar leaves the its like saying, you (thugs) win and we (professionals) loose.

Lets remember, if our freedom fighters though that same we would NOT have been sitting here and enjoying a free speech today.

Please fight for your cause and ALWAYS see the end result.
