No Need Of a Coach
by mohit bhutani on Dec 04, 2007 08:43 AM

Well coaching is required for someone who is new to the international sports so that his skills learned in the domestic level could be harnessed, at this point in time. there is no new comer in the indian team apart from the rookie Rohit sharma who has also done well without a coach... why is there so much brouhaha about the coach, the ppl who are currently managing the indian team are INDIAN themselves so why cant we just appoint some1 from India itself, Sandeep Patil for instance. A foreign coach has to be too generous like J. Wright to blend with the Indian Culture and sensibilities, we cannot expect that kinda attitude from an Aussie or RSA.
bring another KIWI if possible or an english coach, by nature they are not as aggressive as an aussie but can make a very good coach buddy ....
GOD HELP BCCI

Indian Coach

Sourabh Ganguly is a good coach. Retire hime honourably and appoint as a coach. You may induct S. VENKATRAGHAVAN as an adisor. He was Indian captain and was international umpire of repute.

No foreign Coach
by nitin r on Dec 04, 2007 08:36 AM

Why are we addicted to employing a foreign coach? We have abundant talent in Indian veterans. K Shrikanth will be the best person to coach the Indian Team. He was the one under whom, Yuvraj and M Kaif won the under 19 World cup. Give him a chance and see the difference!

Be careful with Ganguly, Mr. Kirsten
by Reporter on Dec 04, 2007 08:35 AM

The new coach is most welcome. A foreigner will be fair to all the Indian players. However, Kirsten should be very careful with regionalists like Ganguly, who would try to apply pressure through local politicians.

Introduce Voting
by rahul on Dec 04, 2007 07:44 AM

Let the team elect its coach by voting. Let eligible candidates file nominations for the job and let the team select the coach by secret ballot. Rule of team, for the team and by the team! Hail cricketers! Hail senior lobby!

Senior players should just Fu(k 0ff
by Desi dude on Dec 04, 2007 06:28 AM  | Hide replies

The seior players wanted Wringht and then Chappel. Chapel damaged whatever little of professionalism we had. He was a kangaroo politician par excellence. And now they want not Kirsten but Rajput and Prasad.
They are saying te current setup is delivering, so what if we get thrashed badly by the Aussies? They just want to be sure that they have no coach who will kick them out. These seniors are not sure if Kirsten is like Chappel or Wright. Get the seniors out before getting a coach in. We need wholesale changes, no cosmetics please!!

Why opt for a lesser man

We have good cricketing experts in our home. Why should we search ashore. This Gary Kirsten, Graham ford or G Chappell are not comparable to our SMG, Ravi Shasthri and even col.vengsarkar.

we have great brains, but they have cancers all over. Gavaskar Shastri etc are great but they put themselves before the team. Not just now, even in their heydays. They are all having a cosy relationship with BCCI. We need someone who might not bend before BCCI.

Gavaskar never put himself before his team. Bro...read his profile on cricinfo...he was as pure a Test opening batsman as they come. Its ridiculous for you to say that. He played so much for his team that despite having every shot in the book, to his last Test ('96 Bangalore vs Pak. against Wasim and co.) he curtailed his glorious shots to keep the wickets - cos' that's what an opening batsman is meant to do - hold fort, while scoring. More so when things are falling apart around you. Why don't u read the scores - they are all available in public domain, bro. Educate yourself. Did you know he has one of the fourth innings averages (even after discounting Tests that were meandering into meaningless draws). Look him up on cricinfo - don't go on soundbytes and show your ignorance here. Its up to him whether he wants to coach or not, just like its up to Sachin and Dravid whether they want to captain or not. Just because Prasad is bowling coach doesn't make him better than our Kapil Dev, does it?

"*one of the highest fourth inn. averages " is what I meant to say - excess of 55.0 almost like Ponting..up there with the best. For an opening batsman its incredible bro, considering the turn and fresh bowlers they have to face - so try to be fair.

Why bother at all?
by shiva on Dec 04, 2007 06:10 AM

After the bitter fiasco with Greg Chappell, again we are after foreign coaches.

Can the Board be clear why they do not want local coaches. Are they against, or nobody steps forward? These foreigners will not succeed in our "culture". It seems to be a waste of time. They have their own set ways and if they bow to our ways, better to have a local coach.

We want everything foreign, including political leaders. When we have no respect for ourselves, how can anybody take us seriously? May be too much democracy spoils us all.
