the run rate of last overs of the first innings should be improved if we are in the position like that..(only 5 lost)..it is better to take a run of 700-10 than 616-5, if we played more fast in last overs..that will help to push them follow on..and we will get a target in second innings..if our batsmen played well in second innings, we can win..other wise if we lost some wickets early, we can move to defense because there may be a smaller number of overs to bat in second innings..so no risk for us.

42.4 Shoaib Akhtar to Ganguly, OUT, Again he backs away, Shoaib fires in a full pitched delivery on the leg stump, Ganguly misses to connect with his heave and the leg stump is pegged back. Kumble has declared. SC Ganguly b Shoaib Akhtar 46 (58b 4x4 0x6) SR: 79.31 42.4 Shoaib Akhtar to Ganguly, 1 no ball, Ah! Drama. Ganguly moved outside leg stump and Shoaib followed him with a bouncer and Ganguly ducked and fell over on his backside 42.3 Shoaib Akhtar to Ganguly, no run, moves outside leg stump, Shoaib sends a slower one on the stumps, tapped to backward point
My chaddi becomes wet infront of Shoaib Lee Anderson.. and many pace bowlers. Then becomes yellow. That is why I am Saurav Chaddidas Ganguly... A bengal....quota player.

superb commentary from cricinfo.com courtesy: chaddi cricketer :)) Ok have you seen the scorecard u will understand that Sourav is the guy with the best scoring average and strike rate and played like a one dayer with 46 (from just 58 balls) which was very much needed at that moment. however the so called BLASTER of the team MSD scored meagre 31 out of 60 odd balls...wats the use of calling him balster then and he also went away to Akhtar..see man Sourav has played this test superbly with awesome batting and scoring whenever he got a chance and is even taking wickets in the series. And whether he can play Akhtar or not is proved in the first innings 102..so stop shoutung nonsense and be happy in ur CHADDI

fact is that Dravid's spineless decision is disliked by everybody barring a few BPO workers. and what guarantee that dravid wudn't have played a fantastic knock of 12/96 again? Kumble, though Dravid's teammate for 15 years, is sensible and fair to realise this, hence send Dhoni ahead. but now that Vengsarkar is no longer the selector, Chances are high of Dravid making a reappearance in ODIs thru the back door and play those stupendous innings averaging 10.2 if he has any of pride left, he shud join politics (his area of expertise) and save karnataka from people more evil than himself (deve gowda) BTW, Dravid supporters, would love to hear what abuses u learn at school. he he

India made a mistake in first innings..we had 5 more wickets were remaining..so if we batted a 15 overs more, and we can increase our first innings lead to 260-300. then we can send them to follow on and restrict them with in 400 or a max of 500.then we will get a target around 200 to max 250..we will get at least 40 -50 overs in the last day to get that score..we can try for win or at least avoid the risk of giving a target score to them..
were we right in the strategies we adopted in this test? well 1 or 2 good partnership from Pak can happen against any team but besides that was India on the right track?
Self styled cricket pundits said that Dhoni needs to be groomed before he can take over test captaincy.
We all know the ultra cautious (really negative and self-defeatist) attitude which made Dravid not to enforce follow on on England team in the third test of the recent series even while having a lead of over 300 runs which saw the team ultimately disgraced in the second innings and having to settle for a draw instead of winning the series more gloriously by a margin of 2-0. Mind you, this was the best chance to do it after 1986, especially with players like Hoggard, Harmison not available and Flintoff being unfit.
Now, once India were past 450 in the first innings, Kumble should have told his batsmen to go all out and accelerate the scoring. In the Pakistan first innings, nothing innovative was done after reducing them to 150-5 to get them out cheaply. Finally, after gaining a first innings lead of 160, there was no sense of hurry or purpose to Indian batting in the second innings to see that the team sets a target of about 330 and gives an incentive to Pakistan to play for a win in the last innings.
Why will Pak play otherwise than defensively for a draw if Kumble wants to set a safe target of 350-375 in about 5 hours? Naturally, draw will be a higher possibility in that situation unless Indian bowlers can do a miracle.
Is this the way Dhoni, presently a positive and aggressive captain, should be groomed under "safety first" captains? Sorry India!

Dont speak nonsense. That is the reason Dhoni had given a chance to accelerate scoring ahead of Dravid. But he played a bullshit innings with a strike rate of about 50 which even Dravid could have done more in such needing situations. If our score was 40-50 more runs yesterday only we could have gone for fielding entire today and tried for allout. What is the need for Dhoni to play so slowly eventhough they were bowling nehgatively.WHAT IS THE USE OF KEEPING THE WICKET in such situations?
