Why we failed
by indira on Aug 29, 2007 06:15 PM  | Hide replies

Poor running between the wickets besides poor filding are the root causes for our failure in the 2 onedayers. When there are 2 runs to be taken we take only one while the England players convert singles into 2s by taking advantage of our shoddy fielding. Ganguly will never improve upon his fielding and he is also a poor runner between the wickets.Even youngsters like Patel, Zaheer and R.P.Singh don't like to dive and save runs. The opposition
always pick on these fielders to score runs easily. As a result we always gift away at least 25 to 30 runs in every match. A coach can only teach you how to improve upon your fielding.
But the commitment should come from within.
Though we are going with 5 bowlers in the last 2 matches,we are unable to stem the run flow because of poor fielding especially in the last 10 overs. Unless we improve upon our fielding and running between thewickets we will end up by losing the oneday series.
Better to go with 7 batsmen and 4 bowlers in the remaining matches because 5 bowlers are a waste when you don't have committed fielders to complement them. In contrast the English fielders complemented their bowlers very well.

Yes I truly agree with you. Even in second ODI we just scraped thro even when we scored 329.
Unless we improve fielding there is no chance we can win this series whether we bat first or chase.

I do not see any commitment especially from the younger ones like Dhoni,Karthik,RP Singh,Yuvi etc.

Mission Cricket by Rediff
by Sanjay on Aug 29, 2007 04:02 PM  | Hide replies

There are two types of messages now a days in rediff cricket:-
1) Support dravid to the fullest and redicule ganguly in the utmost manner...
2) Support ganguly to the fullest and degrade dravid....
Over these messages there are numerous replies and lots of abusive languages which are then removed.
Ultimately nobody questions BCCI and never asks for a accountabilty of its operations , which I feel is the most important thing.. Until and unless an organization has a proper & honest management, it can never prosper. Same goes with Indian cricket....Hence we can keep fighting and have regional hatreds like Kannada,Bongs,Marathis,Punjabis and etc etc.... All crooks in the board get richer each and everyday....Ultimate outcome is India still has to go a long way to become Australia(in cricket)...
NB:-Pls don't suggest to bring back Chappel..

Current Indian one-day team
by kumar on Aug 29, 2007 02:33 PM

Due to one-day losses, many of you have come out pasting Dravid's captaincy.

But he is only trying to work with the team that is given him, which shows a positive mind on the one hand while on the other it also gives people the opportunity to slag him down.

The Chairman of selectors and all the selectors who are responsible for picking the team are the ones to be blamed. They are only reflecting their passive state of mind which they demonstrated amply when they played the game as well.

As a result, the team selected contains poor fielders (Ganguly, Munaf, Zaheer, Powar) and the others are just about average. This results in giving away extra 25-30 runs to opposition, missing cruical catches etc. Robin Singh's job here is on the line.

Most of the batters are poor runners between wickets losing the team another 20-25 runs.

Opening batters: Sachin and Saurav - nothing wrong with Sachin. Saurav is a complete misfit at the top of the order. He cannot score at a run a ball in powerplays, is a poor runner between the wickets and due to this he adds pressure on batsmen who follow him. Clearly India would regret not picking Sehwag who can also bowl off spinners when needed giving the captain some options.

Dravid is blemishless as always. Due to him we won the second one-dayer otherwise we would be 3-0 down by now and staring down an empty barrel.

Karthik is a good player but does not quite fit in the current one-day team mix. Instead of Karthik we should be playi

Indian cricket teams fate?
by radio mirchi on Aug 29, 2007 12:54 PM

1. The fielding is so completely pathetic that we give at least 50 extra runs. For ex if the ball goes to Ganguly there will be surely 2 runs. See how RP Singh could not affect a simple run out. See the throws from the deep. I think fielding is the single most contributor for our losses.
2. We see only the oldies like Dravid/Tendu?ganguly scoring bulk of the runs. Now once they are removed or retire what will be fate of our team. See how youngsters like Dhoni/Yuvi/karthik are batting. pathetic
3. Why can't we chase something like 280 on a perfect batting pitch as we have world record of 17 consecutive successful run chases.
4. Why the bowling has become so blunt especially when we bowled well in Test matches.
5. This team is on a downslide.
6. Can we see any hope for future with this team especially once the great trio of Sachin/Dravid/Ganguly retire.???

Reasons why indian team's performance is going down.
by nbd nbd on Aug 29, 2007 11:29 AM

1. Why Dravid opts field in most occassions ? even after knowing we are not good in run-chase these days.
2. Nothing to discuss @ sachin in run-chase situation.. whether its a target of 80 or 280.. He is fantastic when team bats first... but not able to dominate while chasing a target since last year
3. Why Ganguly is not emphasising on singles and rotating strike ? Although he has scored highest in 3rd ODI... but he was unable to convert dot balls into singles..
4. The big question which can be answered by BCCI only -
why Dhoni is vice-captain of ODIs and captain of 20-20 ahead of Yuvraj... Yuvi really deserves the captainship due to his leadership qualitities, responsible attitude and experience... i think Dhoni should first concentrate on his batting overseas.

Mystery of Rahul Dravid.
by Ricky Thukral on Aug 29, 2007 10:22 AM  | Hide replies

Any cricket enthusiast wont be so tactical sharp to understand every bits and pieces of cricket. But there are few things that will baffle even the greatest cricketing brains:-

1. Win the toss bat second%u2026.no problem with that but at least look at you team composition?
We played to spinners. Please go to cicinfo and look for captains who played two spinners and then decide to bowl first after winning the toss.NOT MANY.
2. Dinesh Kartik at number 3%u2026we were not looking to consolidate%u2026.we needed someone to change the momentum. How about Dhoni or Yuvraj?
3. Our captain always goes around after the match saying we are missing a allrounder?
Irfan pathan%u2014better fielder then munaf or powar.
Better batsman then Kartik or Uthapa or Gambhir.
Bowliing-agarkar and munaf aren%u2019t any better.
Instead of crying about not having a all rounder why cant dravid get irfan pathan.

you keep trying to justify yourself repeatedly.
All the experts have said that it was a very good wicket to bat till the end so it really made no difference if one batted first or second.
just because karthik had one failure does not mean he's useless--stop your biased utterings--are Dhoni and yuvraj the epitome of consistency?
When Irfan was there in the team along with Sehwag everyone kept blaming dravid.
Now that there are dropped for non performance agin Dravid is to be blamed is it?
Come on Mr ThUkral--grow up and show some maturity instead of parroting the same stuff again and again. Lets have something new from you.

You missed the point again:-u must be really dumb.
Forget the experts tell me which captain will win the toss and bowl first with two spinners in side.
question for you? In a one day game if pitch is condusive to spin then in which ining do you think it will help the spinners more...first or second?Answer anyone will tell you is second.

Coming to kartik.I have no problem with kartik's failure but y did Dravid sent Kartik at number 3.If u need aggressive batsman then gamble with yuvraj or dhoni. If you need stability...y not dravid.

Why is the captain crying after every match we need an all rounder? He couldnt save the best all rounder india had in a long time in irfan pathan.

Ganguly made him and Dravid destroyed him with chappel.

Do you think munaf is fit.we are struggling to field three pace bowlers?Captain is a part of team selection.WHY IS DRAVID SO SPINELESS TO SAY THINGS BEFORE THE SELECTION COMMITEE?HE ONLY SAYS THINGS AFTER WE LOOSE A GAME.

To all Dravid bashers,
1. If u can not win chasing even 1 or 2 matches, u shd not play international cricket.
2. Suppose if the new replacements as per ur suggestions(say Irfan) also fail then still u will blame dravid.
3. Can u tell me how did Dravid kill Irfan's performance? Did Ganguly not come back by his improved performance?
4. There is nothing wrong with Dravid's captaincy. It is a total team failure
5. Every time u will bring the bogey of Dravid's poor captaincy.

thats right, when you win the toss, you have to choose what you GOOD at, and its BATTING not BOWLING. all the time we make this mistake.I think the first one day also we take bowling second and we loose, second we win as we batted first.
there is no TENSION when you batting first.
MAKE A RULE WHEN YOU WIN THE TOSE, TAKE BATTING,BATTING,BATTING,BATTING,BATTING,BATTING

during greg period-last year, india made a record of max continuous victory of chasing runs. opting to bat or field depends on various circumstances like weather, pitch, day-night match, etc. ultimately u hv to play well n no excuses for bad play.

Boss ! Strong batting ! It is history. This team defintitely not a strong batting side. Even if u bat first, don't assume we will win. In the current form we are neither a strong batting side or a strong bowling side.

in fact, both BCCI and ICL should be banned.

better if cricket is banned. such a waste of time.

game is defined as 2 stupids trying to hit ball , 11 idiots chasing the ball and 2 confused umpiring over it.

in a test match, whole circus goes on for five full days, sometimes without a result.
