BCCI to pay dues of ICL-linked players
by Bodh Ramdeo on Aug 23, 2007 10:09 PM  | Hide replies

India need to have privately owned and run professional cricket teams which will engender competeition rivalries which will allow fans to root for their home teams, like the baseball teams in the US, such as the Boston White Sox, Chicago Red Sox, New York Yankees etc. While each team is individually owned, they all belong to the Major League Baseball, which has it's own Commissioner to look after the proper running of the sport, and whose decisions are final. It's time Indians dumped their Commie mindset about 'sports' - sports is not a govt monopoly - it's big business, and has the potential to create millions of jobs both directly and indirectly if it is treated as an 'industry' that it could be.

Boston White Sox?? Chicago Red Sox??

Ranji teams are also run by states. The problem is nobody watches state games in India. The reasons are simple, why would someone take a day off and lose their salary? ICL has got the right agenda to have evening 20-20 games so people can watch these games after coming back from work. On workdays excpet for the big money market teams the stadias are quite empty, however there is tv viewership since the games are only 2 hours long. But soon 20-20 may die out since people would realise its not easy to fit cricket in 2 hours.

Business and sports need not be mutually exclusive.

I don't see any harm as long as ICL provides good entertainment through cricket meatches. I remember watching an ICE HOCKEY match in boston and stadium was amazing. Everyone was enjoying the match and cheering their teams. People were spending money on food, drinks etc. It was a complete package. Lots of entertainment during the breaks.

We need to have same stuff happening here also. If in the process people end up making money there is no harm in that. Let there be scores of ICLs. This will result in people starting to follow sports and hopefully should be replicated in other sports also.

ICL v BCCI

1) BCCI is registered by Indian Society Act, as non profit making society,
2)BCCI is representative of India, bcoz ICC has recognised it, it is upto ICC that who will be representative of Indian Cricket Board, Not goverment r not any body else,
3) to earn money does not damage the object of non profit making institute.
4) but here ICL in prima facie itself, is profit making organisation, being created n run by a businessman, this is the main difference, that to BCCI we can say to share profit but to ICL not , it is technical thing so called intelligent cricket fans can understand it

BCCI is not sharing money to anyone, buddy.
Who cares if it is BCCI or ICL that makes money, as long as it shares to the stakeholders and promotes good cricket in India.

It is Society Registration Act 1860(XXI). There are slight changes in the ACt from state to state. Definitely it does not stop earning money , the only concern is how the money is utilized. Even companies can be registered as non profit making companies under Companies Registration Act. Not sure in which category ICL has been registered. It might serve the purpose like County Cricket in India. What the problem is BCCI having. It is like there was only one TV channel earlier and quality and coverage have increased tremendously with the increase of number of TV channels. Healthy competition always helps.

PPL criticising BCCI on money issues forget that BCCI was 60 years in loss but still doing something for players (under 15, 19, 21, india A), grounds, now they hav full right to enjoy also, but like ICL being run by cunning a businessmen who just want to get advantages only by using groomed players by ssome1 else, facilitated by some1 else, if he is genuine then he must develop infrastructes n players then should come ahead
n in any case theere r so many fools in india to treat him as great, just they treat so many in politics

1)our most of indian cricket fans r not logistic, they would like to see match irrespective of recognised r r not,
2) ICL will never hold five days test matches
3) n our advertisers has nothing to do with recognition, thye would like to get advertised
4)BCCI has done so many things wrong, it does not justify to entrance of ICL just to enjoy the efforts of BCCI, BCCI needs to be rectified,

payment to ICL-linked players

BCCI can't deny the dues to players those have joined ICL. If they do so, ex-players will take the issue to court.

1) ICL can pay even 100 crores to per player bcoz they will hav to pay only max 100 players n there would be no infrastructuaral cost, but BCCI hav to look even 1000 player, ex-cricketers,
2) BBCI has to pay something to broadcasters but here ICL has nothing to pay bcoz they launched ICL for their own channel, Z sports, which was dupmed till now,
3) n the players who r joining ICL r great cheater, not even good human being, bcoz on bread n butter of BCCI they groomed, n now just for money joining ICL
4)kapil might have been great player but not good consultant, coach n administrative, as he was coach of BCCI n was totally flopped
5) Madanlal, sandeep patil etc were thinking to be coach of BCCI, but rejected by BCCI, so propogating wrong things,
6) most of news channels of India r biased, kapil, madanlal, n AAJ tak, N Headline today, sandeep patil on star news, zee soprts , home channels, how can u think u will find genuine appraisal , in indian media u will find so called experts of 18-30 year old, having just diploma of few months r years, i dont know how can ppl bear them,
our most of ex-cricketers r hairaaan pareshaan aatma ,
7) BBCI has so many things wrongly, but ultimate they r non profit making society, not profit making business like ICL ( Chandra), it is reflection of cunning business mind of Mr chandra

BCCI and non-profit making?? What world do you live in?

1. BCCI does not even have a proper orgaisation structure for a company that churns millions.

They only introduced central palyer contracts very recently.

If BCCI truly loved cricket, thy would look after the cricket schedules by organising fewer matches, schedule more tests and less one days etc. All BCCI does is fuel the Indian obsession of cricket.

BCCI is a spineless gutless organisation that so spectacularly screwed up the process to appoint a national coach.

What have they done to groom Indian coaches? Do they have academies to train coaches?

What have they done for Indian grounds and spectators? We get treated like cattle when we go to see a match.

I would be more than happy to see BCCI wilt and die.
