Who will represent India
by Harsh Gupta on Aug 21, 2007 02:24 PM

The Big Q is that BCCI claims it to be a private body (although it is claiming all tax benefit) and if ICL comes into picture than one thing can be done for benefit of game in India. There should be an tournament between two and whoever wins that should represent India for that year

Joining ICL
by Chetan Chauhan on Aug 21, 2007 02:19 PM

i cannot understand why cricketers joining ICL have to keep saying that it is not for money.

it is their profession and they are entitled to join the best paying employer. no need for defending the action, it is their right.

even the existing cricketers are making money by appearing in ads, and there is nothing wrong with it, as long as it does not interfere with cricket (though, a lot of times it appears to do it).

rayudu or other have done nothing wrong in joining ICL. nor will they be doing if BCCI offers a better deal, money wise or in other terms (like playing for the country).

ICL and players.

According to Ajay Jadeja Among the young Indian players who joined IPL except the young Jhunjoonwallah no other cricketars had credentials to become a member of national team. All others were either big flops or tried ones.

This is a lesson for BCCI
by baranikumar mahadevan on Aug 21, 2007 02:15 PM

So far BCCI has been playing politics.
Good performers were always ignored because their favourites had their place in the team.

The arrangement is like this.

The advertising/media company acts on behalf of the brands that the cricketer advertises. The company agrees to pay a certain percentage of the advertising contract to BCCI. The remaining amount goes to the cricketer. For this amount BCCI agrees to keep the player in the team subject to some minimum performance. Which is why Tendulkar scores a fifty now and then - mainly to keep his place. This was the case with Sehwag ,but continued failure forced BCCI to drop him.

Otherwise there was no reason for players like Dinesh Karthick to be out of the team so long.

Now with these talented players going to ICL , the BCCI will be forced to pay attention to the performers and make selection on merit.

Kudos to ICL
by Kamal on Aug 21, 2007 02:12 PM  | Hide replies

Kudos to ICL which identifies and gives opportunities to young cricketers who really have talents. I am sure that very shortly in most of the cricket playing nations similar ICLS will be formed and one day there will be another international cricket body like ICC to recognize such teams and conduct international events.
Down with BCCI and other state cricket associations.

First of all Why is BCCI opposing ICL? when they cannot pick 16 players from a vast country like India and want their positions intact, taht is the reson almost all Associations affilated to BCCI is dominated by politicians who do not ABC of cricket, in turn they favour their loyalsit and elect them as Selection committe memebrs, for exampl everyone knows the present committe in which two have played international cricket, other three have never seen any venues, thanks for their political affilations they are enjoying.
In fact BCCI should encourage ICL and promote cricket and arrange more matches to search for the talent, in case someone playing exceptional well for ICL and selected to the National team, BCCI should pay some royalaty to ICL for providing such talent who have been overlooked by the wisemen, there will complete transparency as the public will know the exact performers which will benefit the nation as a whole.

Politics apart where is the performance? Shivlal Yadav can not get Rayudu out in the middle. If he performs well and still neglected I will take ur argument.

encourage the youngsters
by Suresh Ganti on Aug 21, 2007 01:54 PM

i strongly advice board of Cricket in india to encourage the young players who have immense talent. its time for our decision makers to encourage the young and talented players across the country. please do not neglect players like Khaif etc who has still potential to represent the country. its a good decision to rest sehwag as he was not doing much.

try to conduct a SWOT analysis on each player and please do not consult team captain other than team manager, therapist and team doctor while conducting the analysis.

hope things will change

I will be very glad if he does that. In fact I was a great fan of Mr Rayudu when he started his career. At that time he was even tipped as successor to Tendulkar. But he disappointed all of us by allowing his form to dip. He is one of the biggest disappointment of Indian cricket. I however wish that Rayudu will make your prediction true.
