Has anyone realised that if such things can happen in cricket - in full limelight, then what the situation would be in other sports .No wonder we dont bring back medals in most sports .
I think that more and more private teams should be formed in all games as the governments have failed miserably for so many years to create and nurture talent in this country.
and there should be a mechanism to protect these teams from interference from selfish and power hungry politicians . I think that this calls for a new law to be made regarding the private teams protection of rights.

BCCI AND PENSION
by p s on Aug 09, 2007 01:50 PM

I think the BCCI not only lacks in having experts in handeling cricket and manage its funds well for the development of the game and welfare of cricketers but it also seem to be blind to the legal position as far as the meaning of "pension" is concerned. The courts have made it very clear that "according to the Supreme Court ruling, the pension is a deferred salary and not an ex-gratia payment (that is, a payment made as a favour rather than an obligation). " So when these cricketers are threatened that their pension will be stopped it shows either the BCI has no respect for the rulings of the apex court or their legal bigwigs are only enjoying the perks of cricket collected due to the hardwork of those cricketers in yesteryears whom they are threatening now.

It will not be a bad idea of BCCI and ICL to work together and develop the much needed infrastructure for cricket rathere than fight each other.

Can you imagine that of the eight northeastern states not even one has a cricket stadium. What is preenting the two in joining hands and giving each state a stadium atleast with proper infrastructure and coaching centres.

BCCI wants coach for a player who has already proved that he is good enough to play for the country but they have no interest in sponsoring coaces in states and bring up the budding players and have not one senior team but may be all states teams and have tough indian circuit to in coming 5 years. How Untrue
by Ramelton Pandya on Aug 09, 2007 02:02 AM

These arguments are height of "Not True".

BCCI is a not for profit organization. ICL, asuming that Zee TV owns it legally along with IL&FS (both having shareholders), is here in business. Let their directors say that they are doing this for cricket and anyone can sue them for acting against the interests of shareholders. Directors of any Publicly listed Company are under oath to act in the interest of shareholders. I challenge them to say that the interest of cricket is bigger to them than their company's financial interest and let us see then.

Let the NDTV sports reporter work for Aaj Tak and then I want to see as to how long does he/she have a job with NDTV.

Here is Kapil Dev who asks Sachin to retire and at the same time is busy putting together an Army of retired cricketers. May be he wants Sachin for ICL after he retires and hence asks him to do that. Good marketing skills Kapil.

Be real Mr Bedi. Cricekt and Business are two different things. I hve no abjection to ICL making lots of money out of cricket. If they can, good for them and their shareholders. Good luck to all of them. But to say that BCCI should or should not do this or that just stinks. It is fabrication of basic facts and mis-representation of ICL's own intentions.

Finally, it is not BCCI or ICL who will decide. The watching public does have brains and pockets with money in it. Both of them should behave themselves, or else, it could be News Corp for all you know, running not just Indian bu

BCCI is scared of ICL: Bedi
by cajetan coelho on Aug 08, 2007 03:59 PM

"The BCCI is telling us that no Indian is fit to become our team's coach and that is why it is looking for a foreigner. Such a statement from the board shows lack of self esteem. I wonder where their self respect is," he said.

"They would once again bring in a foreigner and that fellow would also show us the finger like (former coach) Greg Chappell did. We'll soon complete 60 years of our independence but let me tell you, we are still slaves of the .... " he quipped.

He criticised Indian skipper Rahul Dravid for trying to cover up for Chappell after the Australian's obscene finger gesture to Kolkata fans last year.

"Chappell was being booed rightly on that occasion. When I asked Rahul about the entire episode, he said Chappell was only showing an injured finger. I told him 'don't defend an act which was an insult to the entire nation'," Bedi recalled.

The former India skipper and legendary spin bowler has shown courage. He is not afraid to come in the open and call a spade a spade. There is plenty of food for thought in what the former India cricketer says. Hats off to him.

POOR BCCI

My thought go with BS Bedi. Why BCCI is thinking to topple Kapildev and other cricketers who want to join ICL. It is not at all fair gentlemen. Sharad Pawar should to keep away from cricket. Why is BCCI so unhappy about the players who want to join ICL? Does BCCI think that cricket in India is their personal property? If BCCI think good of Indian Cricket they should encourage anyone who wants to help develope cricket in India and should infact donate some cash to such organisation. But it is all about big belly of BCCI. This is really shame on the part of BCCI to talk like this. Cricket is not BCCI only and BCCI should not be end of cricket. I think Kapil is very much right and every one should have his discretion to make choice. Kapil is a Cricket legend and he always played for the country and not for his personal records. The only world cup India won was his team efforts. Indian Cricket was at its peak during his era. I think politician should keep away from playing dirty games as they always do. My best wishes to Indian Cricket and Kapil.

Mr. Hansraj Will you reward your employee to join your rival..?? i dont think BCCI will mind Kapil joining hockey or otehr sport or other profession for that matter... Kapil has right to do whatever he wants to ...But he can not be associated with tow rivals at the same TIME ..simple as that...If He was with ICL (had ICL being formed before) and wanted to join BCCI, ICL would have done the same..why the fuss..?? No one played for personal records and not Kapil alone won the world cup...everybody contributted well

ICL

I think ICL is a gud step to bring money and upbreed the talent in domestic cricket.....but i dont think, it would do as gud as county cricket in UK coz the weather here in india will not encourage international players to play and even most players sign English cricket league as holiday trip as well as paying for their county.
