Reasons for failure
by Indra Sengupta on Apr 03, 2007 07:29 PM  | Hide replies

Reasons of failure of team India.
a)Cricket is a team game. If you remove the Captain mercilessly just when he started recovering from a bad patch with a predetermined plan. From one day, from test and then from the team altogether, you disturb the rythm of the team.
b)You with vengeance start serching for an alternative to a person who still has a few years of cricket left, then your intentions are clear. You do not think about cricket or the team, you just have a petty agenda of blocking somebody's chances of redemtion, corrections and improvements.
c) This petty agenda gets you out of focus. All your energy is concentrated on a negative agenda. You cn not see positive feel positive. In such a situation you can never be a role model. Other players canot accept you as a true leader.
d)You also are not consistent in your planning. You go on testing players till the eve of the cup. Instead of encouraging the players going through a bad patch, you abuse them and drop them. You try very mediocre players from the domestic circuit. Here also you do not bring in the most prolific run getters of most wicket taking bowlers from the domestic cicuit.
e) In a word you create an air of uncertainty among all the players. The old the new and the not so old.
f) In such a given situation you can not get the best from your team. All the members become shaky and uncertain.
g) You ruin the team in the process and your expection that players would give their best out of fear psychosis is a wrong theory.Negative incentive is not as rewarding as a positive incentive of appreciation from your coach or captain. " You didnt play? Okay never mind. Actually you should have done this or should not have done this. All right better luck next time, we are with you."
h) This is called team spirit. This is called man management.
I understand Chappel Rahul combination totally failed to consider this aspect of Indian cricket. They thought they would carry on experiments, drive out all legacies of the past captain and somehow put up a disjointed bunch of brilliant players who will perform for them.
This is nver possible. The team spirit left by Saurav legacy continued in the first phase of Rahul Chappel era and won some matches.
It evaporated too soon. Too much of experiments and ulterior motive ruined the team and the resultant humiliation for a nation of 125 million followed.
This is clear logic. In the circumstances I see only one person standing above the rest to lead India for another two years required for grooming a new leader.
This interim Captaincy must go to Saurav Ganguly. Obstinates term me as regionally biased, but it is only a coincidence that he is also an Indian hailing from the East.

grow up and get out of the Saurav Ganguly hangover. In which world are you living?Ganguly is just about fit to be playing in the veterans's matches. He has done enough damage already, and he came back into the team on his agents' and media manipulations and has once again done the same to the team.He has to be dumped in the Bay of Bengal.

New perplexity for 2011 WC
by sandip sankpal on Apr 03, 2007 07:27 PM

Looking to some extent at the WC 2007 debacle by Indian team, we%u2019d conclude that BCCI failed to create a team of mental strength and killer instinct; reason could be we%u2019re having less talent pool.
Now, looking at SC%u2019s (Subhash Chandra) new agenda and BCCI%u2019s revolution in Indian Cricket, we%u2019ll have big talent pool for next WC and rather big politics will be played to select players. Finally, because of big hype of media and pressure from BCCI along with ICL, team will return with big questions only.

Cricket Star
by Santanu Chari on Apr 03, 2007 07:26 PM

Great idea to provide competition to BCCI. Recently Zee had run this Cricket Star show, excellent show. We need to find talent - real talent - in our village and towns where there is hunger to do well. Thats what Cricket Star has done. Winner is a boy from Chandigarh, a bus driver's son. WOW!

Good news

Good move.Domestic cricket in India has the potential to become like NBA. BCCI is too busy with pampering 11 international players and doin nothing for ranji players . In India the difference between playing for ur state and country in terms of reward is too big even though talent wise they aren't too far behind.

BCCI will not likes this new league, but who cares. One who plays better cricket will & should be given a chance to play in national team irrespective of league to which he belongs.
But to be frank politicians from BCCI will try their level best to see that Subhash Chandra doesnot suceed in launching this awesome project

You are absolutely right. Even though Zee may have the very best of intentions, it remains to be seen how much they are able to carry forward this initiative. They are bound to face major hurdles from the BCCI with regard to sharing of grounds and other issues. Anyway, lets wish Zee all the best for this new idea!

De Bono
This should have been intiated long time back
by De Bono on Apr 03, 2007 07:19 PM

India being the largest market for the cricket extravaganzas we as Indian deserve the right to govern its rules. Promote local cricketing clubs and increase viewership for local cricket matches. Doing so we will have a bigger talent pool and help build the sport. On the other hand there will be more competition for the best, this is what makes Australian cricket so competitive. BCCI is still an arm of the government with all sorts of reservation, which deserves no one any good. This is a big initiative for Indian cricket.
