Injamamul Haq - Playing days numbered
by S Padmanabhan on Sep 28, 2006 08:55 PM  | Hide replies

It is sad that Injamamul Haq himself is disappointed now after having played like a hero till the age of 36 and being one of the best behaved players of Pakistan. That he should take the indiscretions of the likes of the Darrel Hair seriously speaks for his soft nature. He was right in not resuming the play after Darrel Hair punished his team unwarrantedly. That the vily umpire should aim at such a soft natured person for vilification speaks volumes for the racial indiscrimination by the whites. That others do not support the cause for which Inzamamul Haq refused to resume the field after Darrel Hair awarded his team punishment had encouraged the likes of Darrel Hair and the ICC to go all out in attacking the Asians in particular.

It is indeed heartening to note that Pakistan has been cleared by ICC of ball-tampering charges with
Inzamam banned for four ODIs for bringing the game into disrepute. While this may rule out Inzamam for part of the upcoming "Champions Trophy", his career is by no means over and the cricketing world will certainly have the opportunity of visualising the brilliance of Inzamam's cricketing prowess in the foreseeable future.

The fact that the the controversial Australian umpire Darrell Hair is not on the list of umpires who will officiate in next month's ICC Champions Trophy in India, is also a very positive development in terms of Asian Cricket in general.
