I think if player has potential then he can bat any where, there should not be any cemented place, this will make the player to take his place for granted, which eventually makes them as unforgotten heros as there is very good example with us. Its very easy to sit and comment than playing in the middle with stategies.

It is nothing wriong with shastri's comments...
by koti on Sep 27, 2006 03:41 PM

it was a blunder to send dravid as an opener and sehwag as a middle order batsman.on what basis he was put dravid and sehwag at 1 and 4 positions respectively?
the solid batsman like dravid should apt for middle order.
when chappel coming into indian cricket from onwards team become like minnows..tom moody and bennet king are shaped their teams very well, but what is happening to chappel?
dravid should pick his eleven not coach...
please change the attitude.

Remove Sehwag

We don't want a player who plays after 20 match.
We want a batsman who can play atleast 4 out of 10.

It is really pity to see such comment. Please remember that we only have very few match winners and Sehwag is one among them and that day is his. We should not lose match winners. You might have seen the 'kind' of semi final match in this DLF cup against Australia and how Dinesh Mongia played even after getting settled comfortably. Just sticking around and playing for the 50 overs and cant win a match is really doesnt matter to the team. Only match winners can turn around such matches. We want more and more match winners and we should not lose Sehwag like match winners. Rather, he needs to be persisted with confidence and trust and that should motivate him. Cricket is after all a mind game.

Regards,
Hari

Shastri - You are wrong
by Govind on Sep 26, 2006 12:32 PM

It is easy for people like Shastri to blame the captain and coach. There were strategic errors made by Dravid and Greg Chappell in the tournament, but we could still have won it if not for Ajit Agarkar. We had 30 runs to win @ 3.9 and Hogg/Symonds still had overs to be bowled. Agarkar choose to play across to Hogg despite enough runs had been scored in that over and paid the price. Shastri will not comment on Agarkar because it is a Mumbaikar.

Nothing wrong with Shastri's Statement
by Siv on Sep 26, 2006 11:49 AM

The time at which Shastri opined about captaincy is fair enough. We just look great under Chappel but actual results are not there. And Dravid is also not standing up to decisions and all decisions are made by Chappel.
Experiments should not be made just to make headlines. We need Results. Better Chappel remember that. Good Luck to Team India.

Shastri slams Dravid's captaincy

There is an old saying that old dogs can only bark and not bite. This saying is very appropriate and befitting to our all rounder (ofcourse he was) but failed one. He should stop politicing.

Ravi Shastri on Dravid
by S Padmanabhan on Sep 25, 2006 10:45 PM

Ravi Shastri is, after all, right in advising Rahul Dravid to call the shots and put Greg Chappell, the coach in his place. Nowhere in the past, have we seen such a farce of the coaching having the final say and do as he pleased in a Test Match or an ODI. I too subscribe to the view that Greg Chappell is given more prominence than he deserved. True, we know how to be subservient to the foreigners. It is in our blood.

Who's this Shastri?
by Mohan on Sep 25, 2006 07:34 PM

Who's this Shashtri to say all these things? This guy is a flop cricketer and a cricketer which India would NEVER wish to see someone like him.

When this guy is sent to England (at the expense of tax payer money) to learn cricket, what this guy learnt was how best to spoil a match by offering no shot for any ball bowled against him.

This flop guy slams a gem like Dravid. What a pity?

Shastri is absolutely right
by venkat on Sep 25, 2006 06:56 PM

It is good that Shastri has atlast realised that this combination of Dravid and Chappel is a disaster for team India. Chappel's expertise as a coach has always been questioned including those from his own country. Immediate good results are very common all over the world but the long term results show that he is a man with poor coaching skills. Taking Veeru off as an opener, sending Irfan up the order all smell of conspiracies to erase Ganguly's coterie from the team. But, the conspiracy, for all goodness, backfired on him. Remember, it's not necessary to be a great coach if you are a good player.(Ex: Kapil). Chappel should be sacked without mercy and Dravid stripped of captaincy immediately if India are to be reckoned a force in world cricket.
